The Potential Points on his status panel were related to various foods and dicines. To gain these points, Yang Chan’s expenditure of silver coins was quite significant. Fortunately, he could obtain dicinal resources from the dicine Hall by completing tasks. Adding in what he bought himself, he was steadily closing in on his goal, even if he hadn’t yet reached the point of gaining one Potential Point per day.
Yang Chan had other dicinal formulas on hand, but he couldn’t afford the expense with his current finances, so he had to put them off for later.
Now that he had a stable, long-term thod for acquiring Potential Points, he was in no hurry.
As his strength continued to grow, he knew he wouldn’t be lacking money sooner or later.
’dicinal ingredients will co, and so will silver coins.’
Yang Chan was very confident on this point.
Yang Chan completed his tasks as usual. Uncharacteristically, Xu Gaocen didn’t leave imdiately after. Seeing this, Yang Chan knew Xu Gaocen must have sothing to discuss, and it likely involved all of them.
When it ca to matters concerning them, the most likely topic was the Pharmacist training.
It was because of this that Li Junhao was still in the Law Enforcent Hall. Rumor had it he was being interrogated and pressured to na his accomplices.
Soone had ntioned it, though whether it was true or not was uncertain. What was certain, however, was that Li Junhao was not having a good ti.
Yang Chan was naturally delighted to hear that the man who tried to harm him was suffering. ’He tried to plot against , so he deserves it!’
As expected, Xu Gaocen’s words confird his suspicions.
"The date for the Pharmacist training has been set. It will start in three days and will last for eight days."
"As an Interdiate Pharmacist of the Cyan Yuan Sect, I have one spot to recomnd soone. This ti, I’m giving it to Shu Yu."
Xu Gaocen announced his final decision.
The outco didn’t surprise Yang Chan. He had noticed Shu Yu constantly fawning over Xu Gaocen recently, bustling around to help him with everything.
She even continued to trail after him after her duties in the dicine Hall were finished for the day.
’As for whether anything else was going on between them, I don’t know, and I don’t care to find out.’
Xu Gaocen’s choice suited him perfectly. He had wanted to lie low for a while anyway. The incident with Zhao Ziqing and the others had ultimately started with him, so for now, he was content to just be an ordinary Pharmacist’s Assistant.
’After so ti, I’ll take the Pharmacist assessnt.’
Yang Chan’s expression remained neutral, but the two Pharmacist’s Assistants who had been there longer than him looked crestfallen.
Yang Chan was well aware that those two had also been bustling about, trying to curry favor with Xu Gaocen, but he had simply ignored it.
’I’m already a Pharmacist, so why would I care about so training program?’
The newest Pharmacist’s Assistant looked envious but not disappointed, knowing that it had nothing to do with him—unless Xu Gaocen happened to be his father.
’Of course, he could always try to get adopted.’
A happy smile spread across Shu Yu’s face. Before Xu Gaocen had announced the result, she had been worried that sothing might change.
But now, that was no longer a concern, and Shu Yu could finally relax.
After Xu Gaocen left, Yang Chan finished his deliveries of dicine packets and headed to the Pharmacy to inspect the newly arrived dicinal herbs.
A good number of them had finished drying recently, so it was the perfect ti to inspect them.
"Junior Brother Yang Chan, hold on a mont."
Shu Yu’s voice called out to him.
This took Yang Chan by surprise. Before the training spot was announced, Shu Yu’s attitude toward him had been quite cold; they would barely even nod at each other when they passed.
’So this is human nature. People show their true colors when their interests are at stake.’
’Still, it’s better than soone who smiles to your face while plotting to stab you in the back.’
Take Li Junhao, for example. Just because Xu Gaocen had praised Yang Chan a few more tis, Li Junhao saw him as a major threat—or perhaps it was simple jealousy—and began plotting in the shadows to completely ruin his prospects.
’The hearts of n are truly treacherous!’
"Senior Sister Shu Yu, what can I do for you?"
Yang Chan asked, turning around with a surprised expression.
’Don’t tell she’s just here to gloat now that she’s gotten what she wanted.’
"I really must thank you, Junior Brother. If Li Junhao were still around, I might not have secured this spot in the Pharmacist training."
The gentle smile from long ago reappeared on Shu Yu’s face, a stark contrast to her recent coldness.
Hearing her words, Yang Chan sighed internally. ’She’s really just looking for an ego boost. Not only did she win, but she wants to rub it in, too.’
Although she didn’t say it explicitly, her ssage was clear: despite all the sches and fierce competition, she was the one who ultimately won the spot.
"Thank ? Senior Sister, you’re thanking the wrong person. Li Junhao had wicked intentions, and it was Steward Li, Steward Wang, Steward Sikong, and the Law Enforcent Hall who uncovered the problem. It had nothing to do with ."
"You should be clear on that, Senior Sister. Otherwise, you might cause a misunderstanding."
Yang Chan said, his face devoid of expression.
"Yes, the Sect should be thanked. But you were also involved, Junior Brother, which is why I ca to thank you."
The smile never left Shu Yu’s face. In fact, it had been plastered there ever since Xu Gaocen announced she’d gotten the spot.
"In that case, Senior Sister, you’re even more mistaken. This was all Li Junhao’s doing. If you really want to thank soone, you should go to the Law Enforcent Hall and thank him."
Yang Chan replied coolly.
’I never realized just how obnoxious this woman could be.’
"You’re joking, Junior Brother. Li Junhao colluded with a rival sect. He’s in the Law Enforcent Hall getting exactly what he deserves. That man is a disgrace to our Sect."
Shu Yu declared righteously.
’If the sun weren’t about to set, she’d probably be glowing with a halo right about now.’
"I still have things to attend to, so I won’t keep you, Senior Sister."
Seeing that nothing good would co of this conversation, Yang Chan lost all interest in continuing it.
He turned, walked into the Pharmacy, and began inspecting the latest batch of dried herbs.
’Chatting with her is a waste of ti. At least inspecting these herbs is productive.’
"Hmph! I offer an olive branch and he rejects it. What a waste of his talent in pharmacology."
Shu Yu snorted coldly as she watched Yang Chan walk away.
She had approached Yang Chan not just to gloat about getting the training spot, but also to nd their relationship. After all, his talent in pharmacology was undeniable.
While she was busy helping Xu Gaocen, she had privately heard him ntion that Yang Chan’s talent for pharmacology was outstanding. Xu Gaocen had originally intended to promote him, but he found Yang Chan’s interpersonal skills to be rather poor.
Furthermore, the whole Li Junhao affair had started with Yang Chan. After discovering the plot, Yang Chan reported it to others but not to Xu Gaocen directly. This had displeased Xu Gaocen, so he naturally gave the training spot to Shu Yu instead.
Few people knew this, as Xu Gaocen had only ntioned it in private. But it made Shu Yu take Yang Chan more seriously. Now that they were no longer competitors, she didn’t mind nding their relationship; he might be useful to her in the future.
However, Yang Chan’s attitude had made her very uncomfortable. Given his response, she saw no reason to continue trying to nd things.
’Just as Xu Gaocen said,’ she thought, ’Yang Chan’s people skills really are diocre.’
Shu Yu turned and walked straight out of the dicine Preparation Institute.
When sothing this good happened, you had to celebrate. She needed to let everyone know she had secured the spot in the Pharmacist training.
