Scurry’s life could only be described as having had many twists and turns.
Accepted as the subordinate by a freak of nature during his Crucible days, he was able to "catch a ride" and ascend to the Demon World.
Unfortunately, an accident occurred.
He happened to encounter a space turbulence during the transmission and was thus separated from his master.
His bad luck didn’t end there.
Perhaps the Will of the Demon World wished him to die, as it unceremoniously threw him into a dangerous area filled with powerful creatures. Even the weakest among them was already strong enough to easily take his life.
Struggling in such an environnt, Scurry slowly improved his strength, living at the edge of life and death.
It was only after several advancents, when he awakened the ability of Mimicry, that his life got better, and he successfully blended into the group of Earth Elentals.
Using his wit and intelligence, he was able to quickly rise through their ranks.
It was only then that he learned that the place he had arrived at was Starfall Mountains, an area forbidden for Devils to enter.
Just as he was hatching a plan and plotting his escape, one of the higher-ups among the elentals valued his talent and assigned him a mission.
The task? To guard a mine.
At first, Scurry was excited, believing that his chance to make a run for it had finally co.
But soon after he arrived at the location of the mission, he discovered that things were not bad at all.
Using certain ans, improving his strength in this place was the easiest, though obviously accompanied by risks.
"The higher-ups seed to have noticed sothing—crunch!", Scurry muttered while tossing a piece of Earth Spirit Ore into his mouth and chewing it.
His sharp teeth ground it into pieces, and he gulped it down before continuing.
"I’m afraid that I was too eager for success. I shouldn’t have stolen so much ore.", he thought.
"Unfortunately, I would have never been able to beco a Greater Devil if I had not done so."
"Although my bloodline is extraordinary, it is only powerful in terms of sneakiness and unorthodox ans. My actual combat power is still quite lacking.", Scurry shook his head and sighed with regret.
He knew that he had to make a run for it.
Even though the past few years had made him enjoy his ti with the stupid Earth Elentals, it was only a matter of ti before his thievery ca to light.
Having said that, Scurry was planning to pull off a final heist.
He had to accumulate resources for his future practice before his escape.
"I’ve already investigated the mine and have noted down several secret routes."
"Now, all I need is for soone to draw away the guards’ attention.", he whispered, and his green eyes glowed sharply.
"Fortunately, that shouldn’t be an issue. Hehehe." he chuckled and rubbed his palms together before devouring another piece of ore.
--
The Earth Spirit Ore Mine was not located at the 173rd Layer of the Demon World, but in a small world attached to it.
Scurry did not know how the Earth Elentals had been able to find this place.
All he knew was that besides the mine, only a few other things existed in this demi-plane.
Among these so-called things, there was only a single one that was worthy of the Earth Elentals’ and Scurry’s attention.
It was another type of creature, seemingly native to this world.
--
Only a few days later, the entire mine shook. The shaking of the ground and the trembling of the walls alerted the Earth Elentals almost instantly.
"Hiss! Hiss!"
"Hiss!"
Several overlapping hisses echoed, accompanied by rocks turning over and dust shooting into the air.
"Careful! These things have arrived again!", an Earth Elental who was part of the guard team tried to remind its companions, but it had personally underestimated the danger.
The mont its words fell, the earth beneath its feet parted.
A long, centipede-like monster shot out and wrapped its tail around it. Then, with a tug, it pulled the elental into the hole.
The elental’s companions wanted to help it. However, they were too busy dealing with their own set of problems.
Countless holes appeared on the ground all at once, and thousands of insects erged from them.
At the sa ti, a large, uniform army appeared on the horizon and drew closer at a terrifying speed.
Chaos soon shrouded the mine, and several of the guards were devoured, or worse.
Fortunately, the Earth Elentals seed used to such a situation.
As the commands of their leaders were passed down, they began to deal with these insectoids.
Earth spikes, sand storms, quagmires, and other earth elental abilities were activated, eting the poisonous attacks and physical attacks of their opponents.
The Earth Elentals in the mine also rushed out and worked to assist their clan mbers.
Only a single one remained still.
It was the leader of this outpost, or rather, Scurry.
As he stared at the Earth Elentals and insectoids who were engaged in a fierce battle, he couldn’t help but shake his head with faint amazent.
"These guys never rest."
"I’ve been here for so many years, and they still conduct their weekly raid like clockwork."
"I’m afraid that millions of their mbers have died over the years. I wonder how such a race can even exist."
Scurry was truly puzzled.
However, he knew that this was none of his business at the mont.
He watched the Earth Elentals rush into the battle and knew that the opportunity he had been waiting for had finally arrived.
While communicating with his subordinates and relaying commands to prevent them from finding anything wrong, he secretly left the battlefield and entered the underground mine.
The mine was complicated as if it were a nest of ants, but Scurry was familiar with its layout.
It didn’t take him long to arrive at his destination.
The warehouse. Or rather, the room where the ore was gathered before the clan’s representative ca to collect it.
As he used his authority to unlock the fortified gate, Scurry walked into the room.
He froze, captivated by the sight in front of him.
Mountains of Earth Spirit Ore. Thousands of them, with no end.
Their brilliance gathered together, and the outline of a giant sun was reflected in Scurry’s eyes.
He was astonished.
Though he had been in the warehouse before, his stay had been brief, and he had had no ti to take a closer look.
It was only now, when there was no one to stop him, that he was able to observe freely.
Thankfully, he quickly recovered. He forced himself to calm down and get on with his work.
He understood that this was neither the ti nor the place to admire the ore’s beauty.
Even if he had to do so, it would have to wait for later.
"Fortunately, these things will all be mine in the future.", he thought secretly and clenched his fists before rushing forward.
His sharp nails dug through the mountains of Earth Spirit Ore, and the space ring on his finger rippled, ready to collect these resources.
But halfway through that motion, his movents halted.
He captured a blur at the corner of his vision.
At first, he believed it was an illusion. Yet, when he subconsciously turned his head to look at it, his pupils shrank into needles.
Scurry saw that a person had unknowingly appeared in the warehouse.
Their figure overlapped with that of the person in his distant mories.
He had to rub his eyes, fearing that he had been mistaken.
It was only after several monts, when he had confird that this was not an illusion but reality, that Scurry finally spoke up.
"M—My Lord!", he stamred to speak, his face growing pale as he spoke.
