"What exactly are you doing with that?" Julius asked.
It was much later when they had killed all the monsters. Julius leaned against a dead tree and was relaxing. The others were there as well, radiating satisfaction for a job well done.
Only Ace was bent over a monster’s head, a small knife in hand as he carved the head open and skillfully extracted the brain into a small bowl.
The brain was just as black as the monsters.
Ace shook his head. "It’s a healing potion."
His team looked at the brain in the bowl and then at him with skeptical eyes.
Ace didn’t reply as he covered the bowl and returned it to the chest. It was indeed a healing potion, especially for the bones and those with ntal problems.
It was also a delicacy.
In the book, it was sothing that was found by Lucas Dawn, but the guy had already half burned the body and ate only the rest. The effects it had on him were to strengthen his bones and improve his ntal state.
Although the brain wasn’t part of the main reason that Ace was there, he had already thought of how to use the brain for his own gains before they left the Academy.
After resting and eating, they settled down to spend the rest of the night, taking turns guarding each other. Only Julius was left to have a complete sleep.
But nothing disturbed them.
The monsters that dominated the cursed land had already been dealt with. The next day was simple because they didn’t have to worry about the dark cloak, so they hurried through the rest of the way until they reached their destination.
The Etherion stones grew from the ground like crystal stones, their bodies gleaming with multicolored light, but blue was the most obvious. They gave off a soft glow, and a subtle flowing of power ca from them.
They stared at it flatly.
Disappointed.
"So, this is the main reason we ca here," Ethan said.
"What a letdown."
Julius adjusted his glasses. "At least I was able to improve my ntal capabilities."
There were only two Etherion stones that grew in the area.
Ace was just as surprised.
When Lucas Dawn ca to the place, the author didn’t say how many Etherion stones were there or how much the guy made. Ace sighed. "No wonder the Academy let the place be."
"And the other Houses too," Ethan pointed out. "It’s not worth the trouble of killing their mbers."
Ace nodded. He had thought the cursed land would provide him with steady sources of money, but it was only sothing that he would be able to use once.
But still, they cleared the bush around it away, and then they took the stones with them. The stones were small enough to fit into the chest.
And then they began to make their way back after they explored the surrounding areas.
"You really have it out for him, eh?" Vaelith said. She was relaxed in her seat, her legs on the table in front of her. Ever since they caught the criminals and the news about the Kareth’s family hitting the Scar organization, she had been in an extrely good mood.
"Put your legs down, you uncultured swine," Darius mumbled.
They were in his office.
After a while, he spoke again. "Are you not curious as well? The guy was a timid bastard just months ago, but now he’s forming Houses and getting involved in things."
"So?" Vaelith asked.
"I have carried out a secret investigation on him, and he’s not possessed. So he just woke up one day and decided he needed to change. And his Talent Ability, I just checked it recently, it’s not a bad power."
His eyes glead.
Vaelith turned to look at him. "Don’t forget he’s a student, Darius Faulkner, and he’s under the security of the Academy."
The Academy security was nearly independent of the Academy itself. Their main goal was to secure the Academy and the students.
Darius blinked in surprise. "You’re trying to take him under your wing? Don’t. At least don’t let him know; he’s a bastard all right."
Vaelith narrowed her eyes. "That light in your eyes, I thought you were done playing with him, but you’re not even started. What are you planning?"
Darius clenched his fist. "I really do not like the guy. The Academy, especially the year one, has settled down. Everyone knew their place and how it’s supposed to be. Everything should be as it should, but he suddenly ca along and turned everything on its head."
Vaelith finally took her legs from the table. "It’s because you are obsessed with control, old man. This isn’t the military. The students are still in their forming years, their powers."
"No," Darius shook his head firmly. "It’s not that. It’s his whole personality. I’ve done my investigation about him."
"So what do you want to do now?"
"I want to know his place in the Academy."
"And that’s why you sent him to the Cursed Land."
Darius shrugged. "If he’s powerful, then he should prove it. Didn’t he enter the dungeon and co out with his mbers intact? Let’s see if he could do the sa again."
The two of them sat in silence after that.
And then.
Ding! Ding!
Darius frowned. "This is from soone that I set up. The House Chains are back."
Vaelith straightened; despite herself, she wanted to know the outco of the situation. She was also curious about Ace, especially how he handled Zigi, almost as if they knew about each other before.
Darius clicked on the ssage ntally, and his eyes suddenly darkened.
Vaelith shifted. "What’s the outco?"
"They ca back without any casualties, and they brought the two Etherion stones with them. Also, they’ve apparently killed all the dark cloak and a lot of the tree monsters. As I’m speaking, he’s already with the rchant to sell all the monsters in his cursed land."
Vaelith smiled, then she laughed. "Well. Do you know his place now?"
His hand clenched. "Not yet. I will still get him."
