Chapter 136: Hiding Under a Mask
In the end, Professor Alfred decided not to confront the boy with this matter, at least not for now; he would first do so research on his own, because this was a big deal. Yes, the runecasters of humanity also had similar guesses, but nothing concrete as of now, there was the fact of how divided humanity was internally. anwhile, all the other 7 ruling races each had a supre powerhouse leading their entire race as a single organization.
Which was obviously not the case for humanity, the three great kingdoms are always aiming to stab each other in the back at the slightest opportunity, the 6 minor kingdoms were also vipers on their own, ready to sabotage the three great kingdoms and put them against each other at any given opportunity. He sighed and shook his head. He would confront Axel about it if he didn’t find anything that could quell his curiosity, and he was quite doubtful that he would find anything useful anywhere, least of all here in the academy.
With that done, the class was over, everyone went on their ways, but Lumina followed right behind Axel; she would get answers from him one way or the other. Axel sighed, sensing Lumina follow him like a lost cat. He did not turn around and simply kept going towards a sowhat isolated park. He sat on one of the benches, looking around and seeing no one. Lumina also sat down right beside him wordlessly, she gave him a sidelong glance, and erected a sound barrier so that their talk would not spread out for anyone else to hear.
Then she turned back and stared at him wordlessly again, Axel said in an audibly defeated sigh, “What is with this silent treatnt?”
Lumina snorted in anger, “What do you want to say? So friend are you? You’re saying such important things in front of everyone, but never thought to share it with ?”
“I guess you’re behavior only indicates that I’m probably a leech that only takes from you and maybe an annoyance as well,” she added in frustration.
Axel resisted the desire to let out a sigh and said, “What I told everyone was barely anything significant compared to what I know, and there is a reason why I didn’t tell you anything beforehand.”
Lumina asked, frowning, “And why might that be?”
“You are really, really bad at acting, Lumina. If I told you all the info beforehand, even if anyone else does not notice it, soone as experienced as Professor Alfred would notice it instantly.”
“And if that happened, he would get that information out of , one way or the other. You already know how hungry any crafters are for high levels of information related to their crafting.”
Lumina’s face, which only held disappointnt, now had a flash of understanding in it, then a guilty look took over her face. Axel saw that and reassured her, “It’s okay, you making such judgents is quite natural, I think, I don’t really mind it.”
“If it were Heinz instead of you, the guy would have absolutely been furious on that note, he would have definitely tried to beat up on the first chance. Compared to that, your reaction was quite ta, I think.”
“So, I should have tried to beat you up?” joked Lumina, to which Axel only showed a fake smile. Then she asked again, “So, what is it? Are you gonna tell here?”
Axel shook his head, “Tomorrow, we can go to an engravent chamber, I’ll explain it to you there.”
A strange thought flashed through Lumina’s head, and she said with a suggestive smile, “Oh, you’re gonna take a beautiful girl all alone, to a dark and separated rune engraving chamber. What do you want to do with this poor ?”
She hugged herself in a gesture of protecting herself from Axel, to which Axel let out a laughter of amusent as he looked at her beautiful figure, she truly looked beautiful without a doubt, but there was a difference in his gaze, there were no traces of lust in it, not in the slightest, only appreciation for her beauty, Lumina also seem to have noticed the difference in his gaze, her female instincts told her Axel was no longer interested in her.
Even though Axel had rejected her, she knew there was so hesitation to it; not only that, she could always feel the gaze filled with desire that he would always look at her with. She could only surmise that Axel was attracted to her physically, not emotionally. While that thought may outright enrage many girls, especially soone like her, since she was always told that she was the most beautiful one, all her life, but nothing more and nothing less.
But strangely, it pleased her; her beauty was also her advantage, people are not only made of thought, they are also physical beings. So, decided to slowly get into Axel’s head more and more, in a more subtle manner. But her heart felt heavy seeing the intense trace of desire that Axel held for her to have disappeared like that. She almost panicked internally and was about to ask it aloud, but she stopped herself.
Axel stated after the small laughter, “Pervert.”
Lumina’s posture broke, and her face sank for being called a word that she had never ever been referred to as in her entire life. All the complicated thoughts she was having vanished in an instant. She looked at him in anger and rage, her face turned beet red out of sha. She clenched her fists and got up. She imdiately started barraging Axel with her punches.
She was like an angry but cute cat, which was showing its anger, but not willing to hurt its owner in actuality. Eventually, she cald down with a lot of effort from Axel’s part, and in the end, she asked after a lot of internal deliberation. “Why do you seem different? Your gaze, and there’s sothing that feels sowhat different?”
Axel frowned internally. There was a hidden question in her statent, and Axel understood it as well. He knew Lumina likely knew that he was very much attracted to her physically; won could infer those intentions sohow, if a male is looking at them with obvious desire. And Axel probably wasn’t too good at hiding that. So, it would make sense even after rejection, Lumina would still try and direct their relationship towards that part.
But now there was no lust in his gaze, he didn’t expect her to feel it just like that. Won were truly scarily perceptive when it ca to so things. He sighed and thought long and hard about what would be the best answer to this, he didn’t want to upset her too much, regardless of the reason, despite their conflicting destiny, he really did enjoy her company and thought of her as a good friend, soone he could relax with. Unlike her brother, the relationship between Lumina and Axel developed to the point that she would never do anything bad to him willingly, even if Lucien tried to force her.
Eventually, Axel said the words, “I stopped hiding under a mask.”
