Both existences felt a surreal connection form between them.

Axion felt the deep-rooted yet hidden hatred of his master, and he understood where it was directed. After so hesitation, he revealed to Axel in a solemn tone, as he stood up, his injured body now completely healed, "Axel, I may have been created by them, but no trace of their mories remains within . But there is one thing I can tell you about them...."

Axel’s entire deanor shifted; he was holding himself back after the transformation into his half-demon state. But now, all of a sudden, his chaotic dark power erupted into a storm. He growled, "Say it..."

A crushing weight pressed down on Axion, forced onto his knees, he revealed, "The only thing I can tell you about them is sothing that does not co from any of my mories, as I do not possess any knowledge of them. Rather, there is an instinctive certainty engraved at the very depth of my being."

Axion paused as the pressure upon him increased; his expression turned utterly serious as he looked at Axel and declared, "With everything I have seen in your mories..."

"All that you intend to do"

"Even if you accomplish every single one of those plans, with complete perfection."

"Even if you beco the absolute strongest being in the history of this world..."

"You will still certainly lose against them...."

"No, you will not even stand a chance...."

"In every conceivable scenario, in every possible reality, the chance of this world’s victory against them is ultimately 0%..."

Axel stepped closer, his crimson demonic eyes locked onto Axion, searching for any hint of falsehood. He asked, "And how do you exactly know that?"

Axion’s voice trembled for a mont, "I just know it, as if it is a truth engraved in my very being."

But to the surprise of the doppelganger, Axel let out a laugh, his demonic voice causing the red dunes to tremble, as he sneered, "I always knew that this was a losing ga, but that never stopped in the past, would it stop now? It would not."

Then he paused, adjusting his mood, "Well, it doesn’t matter."

Axel reverted to his human form. Turning around, he started to walk backwards in the sa direction he had co from, Axion following behind him without needing any extra command. Eventually, they disappeared from the red dunes.

***

One month after the start of the war.

Lucien hovered at the sa point in the sky where the war had first started. His eyes, which had been filled with arrogance and confidence before, now bore a trace of doubt as he looked at the monstrous devastation that stretched for more than tens of kiloters.

Even the other two princes, Thorian and Enrick, as well as Jaden, all had a complicated look on their faces. Jaden sighed, "What did I tell you, Lucien. Things went more or less as I predicted. Though I did wish I were wrong..."

Lucien’s face scrunched up in displeasure as he thought back to how this war went on the first level, which only involved first-phase existences from both sides. Within the first week, the unified army of 300,000 seekers managed to finish off the 600,000 undead soldiers, but it was not without its cost.

Half of them had perished in the process, which was a huge blow to the human great kingdoms, as it may take decades to create again that many first-phase seekers of humanity. But the greatest problem was that the 600,000 undead were nothing but cannon fodder to the ghost race.

It wasn’t even the slightest bit off, though half of the unified army remained; most of them were heavily injured, and a small minority still were able to fight properly. That was when the seekers from minor kingdoms, as well as various specialized undead like Lich, Death Knight, wraiths, ghouls, and specters, joined the battlefield.

With the unified army in such a battered state, even though the soldiers used the highest-tier imdiate recovery potions, it was a completely one-sided slaughter.

And they, who were given the role of the leaders in this war, could only watch helplessly as the human soldiers were dismbered, eaten, tortured alive. By the end of the month, not a single one of the 300,000 first-phase seekers was alive.

What was most infuriating was how flawlessly the human seekers of the minor kingdoms worked alongside the undead of the ghost race.

The reputation of the commander-in-chief hit an all-ti low; the number of people who wanted to put dirt on the four of them who were in charge of this war was not small. Talks about their possible replacents were already underway.

But for now, they still held the decision-making authority, and no one knew how long it might last. Lucien slowly glided down towards a castle pillar on the edge of the unified armies’ war camp. The other three also ca down.

At this mont, Enrick spoke aloud, his voice mixed with anxiety and desperation,

"There is no other choice, on the 2nd level, a few of us must step in....and, and..."

"I knew it was a mistake. We should have provided the soldiers with the necessary rune tools..."

Lucien’s sharp voice cut him off, "A sword is only as good as its wielder. No matter how you spin it, this remains the truth. We have suffered a devastating loss, that’s true. But now, when those powerful rune tools will be revealed. It will be just as effective."

Thorian interjected, placing a hand on Enrick’s shoulder to calm him, "You knew very well what could happen when Jaden proposed this plan to us, and we all agreed with it. Accepting the risks associated with it. Because if this works, it will bring a greater return than anything else ever could."

Jaden chid in, "That’s right. None of us must join in on the second level, since all of our true battle prowess has reached the third phase, due to our recent breakthroughs. We will deal them the greatest blow on the third level, when the third phase seekers would battle."

"In one fell swoop, we will completely turn the tide. Because at the end of the day, it only matters that you win, not how you win it."
