The north wind howled, yellow sand swept through.

Lin Fan stood outside the main city gate of the Xuan Clan, letting the fierce wind beat against him, his clothes fluttering in the wind.

He stood coldly, his heart as calm as still water.

The bustling crowd was lively, as if nothing had happened.

Just like usual.

However.

Lin Fan ignored the crowd, staring straight through the city gate at the high main hall in the distance that pierced the clouds, occupying a thousand feet.

The crowd ca and went around him incessantly, with no signs of anything amiss.

Yet Lin Fan keenly sensed a hint of wrongness.

Behind the smiling faces of the crowd, worry and fear lurked in the shadows.

Lin Fan couldn't help but frown slightly, his gaze growing sharper and deeper.

Perhaps it was precisely this gaze that set him apart from others, causing many passersby to glance at Lin Fan, casting puzzled and confused looks his way.

Lin Fan quickly pulled down his hat, slightly lowered his head and walked into the city.

Since the incident of snatching the bride, he was well-known among the Xuan Clan, and without a disguise, he'd probably be recognized before even approaching the main city.

He avoided their gazes, moving hastily.

Originally, he had planned to charge into the main hall directly and confront Mo Yunsheng.

But the crowd was truly overwhelming, and the hurried Lin Fan was attracting more and more attention.

To avoid suspicion, he had no choice but to slip into a tavern to hide for a while.

Lin Fan went straight up to the second floor, sat in a secluded corner, and watched the crowded floor below, perplexed.

Why so many people today?

It seems like today is not suitable for acting.

Just as he pondered, a waiter approached.

"Sir, what would you like to order?"

Lin Fan raised his head, casting a cold glance.

The waiter was startled by that look, paused for a mont, and quickly replaced it with a smiling face.

"Sir, your gaze is sharp enough to kill. Are you planning to murder soone?"

Lin Fan did not respond.

"Aren't you afraid of getting a rash, bundled up so tightly in this heat? I'm about ready to strip down!"

The talkative waiter prattled on, hoping Lin Fan would order sothing.

Lin Fan was slightly impatient, but then thought the waiter might know sothing.

"Why so many people today? Did sothing happen?"

"No idea."

The waiter, seeing Lin Fan hadn't ordered anything yet wanted to ask questions, concluded he was a penny-pincher.

Being a pauper, he couldn't be bothered to answer his questions.

With so many other custors to tend to, why waste ti on soone unwilling to spend?

He pursed his lips, shot Lin Fan a disdainful look, turned and left, muttering under his breath.

"No money, and coming here to freeload, shaless."

Lin Fan felt helpless, just about to call the waiter back when he walked away.

Sneers erged from nearby tables, along with disdainful and contemptuous glances.

"In these tis, you see all kinds. First ti I've seen soone go to a tavern without money."

"Then you must be inexperienced; I once saw soone worse, not only not paying but smashing the place, making unable to eat that chef's food for ages."

"If anyone dares to smash this place, I'll kill them!"

Such harsh words were naturally aid at Lin Fan, issuing a warning intentionally or otherwise.

Lin Fan couldn't be bothered, but their conversation intrigued him.

Judging by their tone, they seed regulars at this tavern, likely knowing so gossip.

But Lin Fan stayed silent, quietly listening.

Sure enough.

After half a jug of wine, they started chatting.

"Heard about that thing?"

"So much has happened lately, which one do you an?"

"Tsk, the most important one!"

One of them clicked his tongue, eyes darting around nervously, resembling a guilty thief.

His gaze happened to et Lin Fan's, causing him a start.

He imdiately glared at Lin Fan angrily.

"What're you looking at?!" he scolded.

"Sorry." Lin Fan averted his gaze, but his ears remained attentive.

The two resud their cautious conversation, speaking even more quietly, seemingly discussing sothing significant.

"Oh, you an the rumor about Mo Chen's death?"

"Shh!" One hurriedly raised a finger to his lips. "How can you say that out loud? What if soone overhears?!"

"No need to worry, everyone in the Xuan Clan knows about it, just a rumor. Who is Mo Chen, impossible for him to die so easily."

One disdainfully pursed his lips, tossed a peanut into his mouth, and sipped so wine.

"There's evidence, Mo Chen really is dead."

Cough cough cough—

The man was about to swallow his wine, but upon hearing the news, he choked violently.

His eyes widened, almost popping out, jaw hitting the table with disbelief.

"What?!"

"Really, my friend's aunt's son works there, and was summoned that night, announcing it."

"N-no way?"

"Why not?! It's true, my friend would never lie to ."

"Enough, stop talking. Discussing this could get our families punished, keep it between us alone…"

He fell silent, eting Lin Fan's gaze once more.

Realizing Lin Fan had overheard everything, he was alard and furious.

"What are you doing?!"

"Nothing."

Lin Fan replied flatly, with a hint of nace in his tone.

"What the hell did you hear?!"

That man exploded in anger, springing to his feet.

Lin Fan looked up, coldly staring back.

"You sure you want to say it?"

"You…"

The man fell silent, realizing everything they said was overheard. Without knowing Lin Fan's identity, spreading it could endanger their lives.

Mo Yunsheng forbade talk about Mo Chen throughout the city.

The two, acting against orders, risked losing their heads.

Thinking of this, he shivered with fear, glaring at Lin Fan angrily but remained silent.

Quietly accepting defeat, he sat down, glaring at Lin Fan while downing his drink furiously.

Lin Fan turned his gaze out the window.

Mo Chen, really dead?

Solely sourcing gossip from the tavern might not be accurate.

He needed to ask soone.

Who?

Mo Yunsheng was out of the question, Mo Hai and his son were on the sa side.

Only one person might know the truth.

Feng Qingshui.

But how to find Feng Qingshui?

Lin Fan sighed, deep in thought.

The current situation was extrely complex, and he wasn't sure of Xuan Clan's predicant.

Even the crowd before him.

The main city was lively, but never like today.

Through observation, he noticed everyone heading in one direction, as if a major event was about to occur.

Should he follow and take a look, Lin Fan pondered.

Suddenly.

A flash of insight ca, and a sly smile appeared on his lips as he glanced at the two nearby.
