As the first batch of felled trees was sent back, Perfikot and Foster couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Although these freshly cut trees contain a lot of moisture and are not easy to burn, forcing them to ignite will produce a lot of thick smoke. However, having them is still better than not having them at all.

Moreover, they still have so reserves of coal and dry wood. They can start the fire first, then place these wet logs beside it to dry slowly while burning them. It’s possible to burn them this way.

For the current fjord camp, having firewood is the most important thing. As for everything else, it can be considered later.

"Grandpa Fu, organize so people to further process this wood. It’s best to dry it first before use, or build a charcoal kiln to convert it into charcoal," Perfikot instructed Foster. She herself planned to take the Flying Airship to New Shaker City: "I want to go to New Shaker City with the Flying Airship. I’m not assured of the dical conditions there. I’ll take half of the maids from the warehouse. I’ll also take Befa and Mikhail, so keep an eye on things here."

"Miss, don’t worry. The current situation is much better than when I followed the master in war. As long as there’s enough firewood and food, there won’t be any problems," Foster said, feeling relaxed after seeing a constant stream of wood being sent back to the camp: "But it’s you, Miss, who will be in danger without the protection of the Steam Knight or the Great Knight."

In Foster’s view, the last assassination attempt on Perfikot in New Shaker City was enough to demonstrate the dangers of the colonies in the New Continent.

Even though she had conducted a major purge in New Shaker City, it still did not reduce the perceived danger of the city in Foster’s mind, so he was not at ease with Perfikot heading to New Shaker City without an escort.

"All the Steam Knights have their tasks now. Only they can quickly open the railway line in such weather conditions and cut down the trees to provide firewood. If I take them away, it would affect the operation of the camp," Perfikot was not too concerned about this and also wasn’t without protection: "Moreover, Samantha will accompany with the Imperial Guard Knight, and with Befa around, my safety will not be an issue.

Compared to this, even Langton’s hospital seems negligent to , let alone here in the New Continent.

If I don’t go in person, once those seriously injured and ill are sent over, none might survive."

"Alright, since you insist, Miss, I won’t say anything further, but please be sure to stay safe!" Foster, hearing Perfikot say she would be accompanied by the Imperial Guard Knight, stopped trying to dissuade her.

Seeing this, Perfikot nodded and then said, "I’ll leave things here to you, Grandpa Fu. Keep an eye not just on the fjord camp but also on the Eagle’s Beak Cliff base and the coal mine. I don’t want any more deaths."

For Perfikot, deaths were sothing she had already anticipated. Although she didn’t care about individual sacrifices, she didn’t want precious lives to be consud just like that. This was not sothing she wanted to see.

Moreover, Perfikot did not actually disregard her safety. While having the severely injured and ill transferred onto the Flying Airship, she also restarted the maids from the warehouse that had stopped due to lack of fuel, and made so minor adjustnts to a few of them.

She then took these maids to the warehouse where the Steam Knight armor components were placed. She assembled five more sets from the remaining twenty sets of armor components, putting them on the maids she had adjusted.

For Perfikot, both the maids and the Steam Knights were her creations, and making temporary adjustnts to both was not too difficult a task.

Her self-customized maids already had the combat capability of formal knights. After minor adjustnts, using them as temporary substitutes for Steam Knight armor wearers was not a problem.

However, the chanical logic of ordinary maids was a bit sluggish, and she hadn’t programd instructions on how to operate the Steam Knights for them. Writing now was too late, so they had to make do temporarily.

Fortunately, she was familiar enough with both that letting the maids put on the Steam Knight armor for show and filling in the numbers was doable.

As for more things, Perfikot didn’t have the ti to think about it now, nor was it the ti to consider them.

Back on the Flying Airship, Perfikot checked the injured and ill that had been brought on board, and seeing they were all settled, she ordered the captain to take off again.

——————————————

The Flying Airship flew for nearly a day and a night, only arriving at New Shaker City by dusk on the second day.

Perfikot’s return shocked many people. In the eyes of so, this young lady was nothing but trouble, like a living specter. Her return inevitably led them to curse inwardly, thinking she was stirring up trouble for no reason.

However, inward curses aside, facing this Northern Territory Lord and Count of Exploration accompanied by several Steam Knights, they could only respectfully et all her demands.

Even when Perfikot asked the largest hospital in New Shaker City to free up a floor to accommodate the injured she brought, the hospital had no choice but to comply.

In this world, hospitals are a relatively new concept erging only after the invention of the steam engine.

Although in the past decades, the Empire has established a relatively professional and well-divided dical system, it is worth noting that most hospitals of this era were not established by professional doctors.

For example, among the original five hospitals in Langton City, one was constructed with donations from the Royal Family, and two others were set up by bankers and nobles, none of whom had professional dical knowledge.

Despite the fact that these early hospitals had relatively strong dical teams and advanced healthcare conditions, it must be pointed out that before the concepts of anesthesia and sterilization were introduced, these hospitals were more akin to massive Petri dishes than places for treating diseases.

After all, these early hospitals mostly continued the roles of the "hospitals" established by the church in the pre-steam age, mainly taking care of and tending to patients rather than offering much treatnt capability, often without even having full-ti doctors.

However, even Perfikot had to admit that the establishnt of these early hospitals significantly boosted the developnt of the dical field. At least in so Langton hospitals, clinical teaching in cooperation with dical schools comnced, greatly advancing dical science.

But the lack of a concept of sterilization rendered the sanitary conditions in hospitals appalling, with rampant cross-infections and various inflammations, often worsening the patients’ conditions.
