Perfikot didn’t delve into it; she just didn’t like people entering through windows directly.
Moreover, rather than worrying about how Ezio appeared in her office, Perfikot was more concerned about the investigation content she had entrusted to the Brotherhood.
"Is there any clue regarding what I asked you to investigate?" Perfikot looked expectantly towards Ezio, knowing that with his understanding of the Brotherhood and Ezio, he wouldn’t co to see her personally if there was no progress.
"There are so findings; things are more tricky than expected. If you hadn’t upgraded my hidden blade, I might not have escaped so easily." Ezio nodded and then explained the situation to Perfikot.
Through Ezio’s explanation, Perfikot finally understood who were the people distributing food in the slums of the outer district earlier.
The na of the opposing cult was very long and tongue-twisting, a word from the near-lost ancient language of the Desert Kingdom, which translated into a specific type of death.
The cult itself was also recognized by the church as one of the heretics, and its history was quite old, going back even to the mythological era.
They even worshiped the God of Death itself since ancient tis, disdainful of wrapping their faith with a layer of church facade for camouflage and propaganda.
This also drew enormous attention from the church; over a hundred years ago, the cult was besieged by the Church Court, and its mbers suffered heavy casualties, almost being obliterated completely.
However, because of their belief in death, the cult’s believers had opportunities for revival even after being killed.
This is one of the main reasons why this cult is historically enduring, acting ostentatiously yet still able to evade church hunts; if one core cult mber isn’t killed or wasn’t completely annihilated, they could revitalize.
However, in the past hundred years, the cult that venerates death has been exceptionally low-key.
Perhaps this has a lot to do with their current leader, for having died once, he’s both in awe and fear of death, more prudent and cautious compared to his reckless past.
As for the issues in Langton’s outer district, it’s not limited to the slums but initially enveloped the entire outer district, even spreading towards the inner district.
"This cult has now monopolized the corpse disposal work in Langton’s lower and outer districts; whenever soone dies and no one claims the body, the body guild would transport the corpse away with a carriage, allegedly for burial in public ceteries, but in fact, it’s utilized by this cult." Ezio further explained to Perfikot, detailing what he had encountered.
Hearing that an iconoclastic death-worshipping cult had monopolized the corpse disposal work in Langton’s lower and outer districts, Perfikot felt as if her mind was about to explode.
How is this different from throwing mice into a rice silo? Providing a mass grave for Necromancers, right? And one that refreshes with new corpses every month.
If mystery hadn’t dissipated, with various magic and mysterious effects continually weakening, Langton probably would’ve beco a ghostly fiend land, filled with living dead.
"You rely on your ability to beco invisible, so you infiltrated the enemy’s nest?" Perfikot looked at Ezio, though she used a questioning tone, she was certain of the answer.
Ezio confird with a nod, sowhat remnant of fear, answered, "Yes, I infiltrated that body guild, discovering a massive altar underground; they’re trying to summon terrifying demons into this world through continuous sacrifices of bodies, souls, and resentnts.
I tried to disrupt and stop it, but there are many of them, too many for to effectively carry out this task alone."
Hearing Ezio’s answer, Perfikot only cared about one thing: "How much longer for their summoning?"
"Based on the conversations I overheard and the information gathered, their sacrifices may need to continue for a while longer." Ezio estimated in his mind, conveying the approximate timing to Perfikot.
Perfikot felt a sense of urgency for this ti, so she said to Ezio, "This tifra isn’t generous; I need you to keep watching over them, report to imdiately should there be any movents."
"I understand; I’ve already stationed Assassin from the Brotherhood to monitor. How do you plan to handle this heretical cult?" Ezio confird his proactive response while expressing his concern over Perfikot’s plan.
"Handling it will be quite troubleso; based on your findings, their strength is not weak. I’ll need to deploy the army to effectively disrupt their sacrifices, let alone annihilate the entire cult." Perfikot indeed found the issue challenging.
She certainly knew that dispatching Steam Knights and Guard Army for a purge was the simplest and most direct thod, but the commotion would be too loud, easily alerting and scaring the opponents away.
With the Death Sect’s uniqueness, unless they could be entirely eradicated at once, there’s a likelihood they might continue to rise again, perpetuating endlessly.
So rather than launching a military strike now, it’s better to wait until they’re almost finished with the sacrifices, gathering believers to celebrate before swooping in for a clean sweep.
Ezio didn’t express any opinion on Perfikot’s proposed asures.
He rely warned Perfikot not to ss up and indicated the Brotherhood’s Assassin would monitor the altar round-the-clock.
"I’ll handle the body guild and death cult matters. Before that, have you found any useful information on the person distributing food in the slums?" Perfikot looked at Ezio, asking about another issue she had asked the Brotherhood to investigate.
Upon Perfikot’s inquiry, Ezio shook his head and said, "The background is very mysterious; the Brotherhood spent a lot of effort and only found so connections with a noble nad Lady Babalon."
"Who is this Lady Babalon?" Perfikot curiously asked.
"You got there; the Brotherhood is also curious about who she is, but all we found is that there is such a person, beyond that, her purpose, whereabouts are a complete mystery." Ezio gestured helplessly, seemingly light-hearted, but both he and Perfikot knew it was certainly abnormal.
Investigating a so-called noble in Langton City, the Brotherhood ran in circles yet couldn’t find who exactly the person was, only knew a na, and couldn’t gather any other relevant information, undoubtedly a huge joke.
But the joke wasn’t on the so-called noble, it was on the Brotherhood.
Perfikot and Ezio clearly understood that unless Lady Babalon is a fictional character, it’s impossible for the Brotherhood not to gather any information.
But this character should truly exist, on this matter, Perfikot and Ezio reached the sa conclusion.
Failing to gather information indicates one issue: the opponent’s power or capability of concealing information far exceeds the Brotherhood’s investigative level.
This is sowhat terrifying, as the Brotherhood holds significant influence in Langton, yet can’t even find information about soone, inevitably leading to unsettling speculation.
However, neither Perfikot nor Ezio could turn a blind eye to this matter.
So after pondering for a few minutes, Perfikot spoke: "Since we can’t find the backstage manipulators, keep a close watch on their surface contacts, I don’t believe they won’t contact the backstage individuals!
Every action leaves traces behind, I refuse to believe we can’t find any clues!"
