A tribe that excels at adapting to its environnt, possessing both flexibility and respect for tradition.
Although it sounds quite contradictory, after all, flexibility and respect for tradition seem like two opposing things.
But for the Grizzly Bear Tribe, it's not difficult to understand.
If sothing proves to make life better, it is useful and naturally should be adopted; one should not stubbornly cling to old ways.
However, if the old ways prove effective, they should continue to be used.
In this sense, they are actually very pragmatic utilitarians, though they lean more towards maintaining traditional lifestyles, making changes in the details.
This is easy to understand, as the extre cold in the Northern Territory is only a recent developnt in the past one or two years. The lifestyle changes influenced by the Victor Empire happened only in the last two or three years.
Before that, the local natives continued their traditional ways of life, and even after the Empire's intrusion, migrating from the New Continent to the Northern Territory did not significantly alter their lifestyle.
And Perfikot was evidently not soone who would destroy the native customs. She always allowed the locals to retain their tribal-era habits.
As long as they didn't cause trouble for her, even if they wanted to live in trees like savages, she didn't mind.
Moreover, because of her title as the Chieftain respected by all tribes of the Northern Territory, local natives held her in high regard. Even if soone tried to make trouble for her, others would stop it first.
Consequently, the Grizzly Bear Tribe in Worsed closely cooperates with the local officials.
Though they do not agree with the local school education philosophy, they still send their children there, with one condition in exchange: the school must be built on the ground, allowing the children to temper their will and physique in the ice and snow.
For this, they even sent their strongest Ancestor Warriors to teach the children how to survive in the cold and beco stronger.
And it was this teacher, a native standing over two ters tall in front of Perfikot, who looked more like a grizzly bear than a human.
"You look very tall, Ancestor Warrior of the Grizzly Bear Tribe." Perfikot glanced at the hulking figure with interest and curiously asked, "Does your tribe's Ancestral Spirit have the power to make you grow taller and stronger?"
"Yes, Chieftain, the Ancestral Spirit of the Grizzly Bear Tribe has always protected the tribe, ensuring its mbers have stronger bodies than those of other tribes." The strong man answered Perfikot's question, showing deep respect for her.
He didn't look down on her even though she stood below his chest.
"Sounds good, are you the teacher of this school now? Show around." Perfikot motioned for the strong man to lead the way; she wanted to understand the school better.
The strong man naturally did not refuse and led Perfikot and her entourage into the school.
"I am responsible for teaching the children how to train their bodies. These are the courses the children of the Grizzly Bear Tribe took to beco Ancestor Warriors, simplified a bit with reduced difficulty in so dangerous areas." The strong man brought Perfikot and others to an area resembling a playground and pointed at children wiping snow on their bare upper bodies, "Although the effectiveness is sowhat diminished, and these children are unlikely to beco Ancestor Warriors, they are healthy and stronger than average children."
Perfikot watched those children, bare-chested, rubbing snow on their chests and bodies, frowning slightly.
She had seen this thod before, a way to temper the body, but she had seen it applied more to adults; using it on children seed a bit aggressive?
Yet, Perfikot did not hastily dismiss it, just questioned the strong man beside her, "Do many children in the school fall sick? Can they adapt to this training thod?"
Yes, to Perfikot, this appeared to be a training thod.
"Initially, many young ones got sick and couldn't adapt, but after the tribal Shaman provided them with so herbs, they got much better; now, no one falls sick, and everyone's body has markedly strengthened." The strong man explained to Perfikot.
Hearing the strong man's words, Perfikot observed closely; the children indeed seed muscular and significantly stronger than average children of this era.
Perfikot nodded slightly; if children's health could be ensured, this training thod could indeed make them physically stronger.
In harsh environnts, being physically weak is an original sin, as the harsh conditions naturally lead to the survival of the fittest. Weak health would be eliminated by the natural environnt.
The developnt of human civilization allows better adaptation to the environnt, even reversing it to alter environnts, counteracting the natural selection to so extent.
But it doesn't an humans can't beco stronger and healthier to adapt better to their environnts.
Perfikot watched the children without interrupting them, rely signaling for the strong man to show her other areas.
Later, they saw a Totem Pole within the campus.
"Is this your Grizzly Bear Tribe's Totem Pole? Did you place it here?" Perfikot was a bit astonished.
The Totem Pole is a sacred and important item for a native tribe, practically the spiritual belief of the entire tribe.
Just placing it here, would there really be no issues?
"This was the decision of the tribal Shaman and the Ancestral Spirit. The Shaman believes that children are the future of the tribe, and living close to the Ancestral Spirit helps them form stronger bonds and receive its blessings." The strong man explained, which was actually one of the Grizzly Bear Tribe's traditions.
"This really opened my eyes; your Grizzly Bear Tribe is indeed exceptional." Perfikot's eyebrows twitched; she truly felt enlightened.
This also gave her more thoughts on the Northern Territory's school education; after all, this native child-rearing thod indeed makes the children stronger and more suited to the current environnt of the Northern Territory.
