Under Perfikot’s deliberate indulgence, those who advocated for restricting Perfikot’s power were not stopped.
They even submitted an impeachnt proposal to the National Assembly, demanding a vote on the matter of limiting the power of the Lord of the North.
If this impeachnt proposal passes, it ans the power of the Lord of the North will be constrained, and Perfikot will no longer be able to bypass the National Assembly for any action, with all Northern Territory policies needing oversight by the National Assembly and requiring its approval for implentation.
From a national perspective, this proposal is beneficial.
Centralizing local power to enhance the prestige and authority of the central governnt, avoiding conflicting authorities and political confrontations between the central and local entities, seems to be a good thing.
But from the perspective of the Northern Territory and Perfikot, it’s not so favorable.
The Northern Territory is Perfikot’s fiefdom, land she single-handedly cultivated. She nearly saved the entire nation herself, earning Northern Territory’s exceptional position in the Victor Empire’s political arena and political independence.
Even the entire National Assembly and cabinet systems were only established under Perfikot’s urging, and now they’re being used to limit her power, which is a form of black cody.
Of course, to Perfikot herself, this indeed seems a joke.
For without Perfikot’s permission, there wouldn’t be this proposal; without her permission, people couldn’t deliver incendiary speeches.
Without Perfikot’s permission, these people couldn’t enter the National Assembly building but would instead shoot themselves eight tis in the back, facing posthumous charges of treason.
The situation is exaggerated, or rather, in today’s Victor, the support Perfikot has garnered is astoundingly high.
Those attempting to limit Perfikot’s power and advocate constitutional reform might see Perfikot as a dictator, a conservative feudal reactionary, an enemy of freedom and progress.
Yet they haven’t considered why Perfikot has such high support in the North.
They have never tried to understand why Perfikot has widespread support from Northern Territory residents, workers, small business owners, big capitalists, nobles, and even the Royal Family itself.
These naive and simplistic individuals rely believe that replacing the system with symbolic freedom and democracy and carrying out so-called progressive reforms will improve the country, making everyone prosperous.
Perfikot only has such high support because she holds power, controls the military, and oppresses people into supporting her.
As long as her power is limited and she can no longer oppress the people, they would surely stand against her.
However, reality often runs counter to their expectations.
Because the relationship between Perfikot’s popular support and her authority contradicts their beliefs.
Perfikot first received support, then gained power, rather than gaining support because of her power.
The reason she gained support wasn’t because of her noble status or good relations with the Royal Family, although these factors had so influence. The fundantal reason Perfikot beca the Lord of the North was because she was the only one capable of saving the Victor Empire.
Everyone witnessed the power of the apocalyptic winter. For the lowest citizens, they simply recognized that it was Perfikot, the Lord of the North, who established shelters in the Northern Territory to ensure their survival, giving them food, clothing, and warm shelters in a seemingly apocalyptic winter, protecting them from freezing, starvation, or being treated like livestock.
Therefore, Northern Territory residents, nobles, and capitalists unanimously supported Perfikot.
Even though she implented oppressive dictatorship policies and ruthlessly slaughtered opponents, people still supported her rule.
Conversely, if she couldn’t feed people’s bellies, no matter how morally perfect like a Saint, steadfastly executing freedom and democracy, she still wouldn’t gain any support, possibly even being killed by what is called democracy.
The underlying principle is very simple; people don’t want hollow and frivolous freedom or democracy, they want practical bread and shelter.
Without bread and shelter, talking about freedom and democracy, is it akin to what soone in another world said, "Though they lost their lives and hos, they gained freedom?"
Perfikot doesn’t think the Northern Territory residents would believe this nonsense, nor does she believe the parliant mbers in the National Assembly building are similarly unclear-minded.
On the stage, the Duke of Gloucester patiently listened to the speech of the impeachnt initiator, even though the original five-minute speech stretched to nearly half an hour, and since Perfikot herself was listening with interest, he certainly couldn’t oppose.
After the initiator finally finished their repetitive emphasis on ’freedom and democracy,’ the Duke of Gloucester impatiently announced the start of voting: "mbers, please vote! Shall the National Assembly pass the impeachnt proposal against the Count of the North?"
The impeachnt initiator looked around expectantly, even at this mont still stirring others by saying: "Everyone! Think of the constituents who elected you! They wouldn’t want to see you yield to dictatorship! You symbolize freedom and democracy! Vote your sacred vote for freedom and democracy!"
Hearing this person’s speech, Perfikot almost laughed aloud from the gallery.
If these mbers believe his words and pass the impeachnt proposal, perhaps it would be the biggest joke Perfikot heard today.
However, she seems not eager for such amusent since truly letting the impeachnt proposal pass would be troubleso to handle afterward.
Therefore, before the voting began, Perfikot interjected: "If my legitimate rights as Lord of the North are violated, I shall withdraw all patent technology usage permits within the Empire."
"You’re interfering with freedom and democracy! Free people won’t be threatened by you! Your actions are re death throes!" The person clearly misunderstood Perfikot’s words yet continued to shout loudly.
"Order! Order!" Duke of Gloucester, as Speaker, tapped the table, restoring order before announcing the voting recomncent.
