Now reading: Chapter 97 Carbon Foam from Extreme Cold Era: Shelter Don't Keep Waste, a Sci-fi novel by Seventeen Kites.

Perfikot did not stay to supervise the construction.

She had already wasted a lot of ti on Sweet Berry Island, so upon seeing the construction team’s crew begin to lay the foundation according to her planned blueprints, she ordered the exploration team to continue heading to the next marked location.

In the blink of an eye, a month passed. The exploration team headed north, passing several pre-planned marked locations, conducting landings and explorations at each destination.

These locations were different from Sweet Berry Island, with no local natives or Empire colonizers living there.

Thus, although there were so minor difficulties in exploration, the team mbers were seasoned veterans, and with Perfikot’s ample escort team personnel, there weren’t any major issues.

The exploration work was successfully completed, and the gathered exploration data was compiled and sent to Perfikot, who used this data and the high-precision maps drawn by the exploration team for planning.

These explored locations were selected initially thinking as potential future shelter sites, so the conditions were quite favorable.

After a round of exploration, only one location was eliminated from the candidate list by Perfikot due to geological issues.

As for other locations, she believed they all could be used for building shelters.

Reaching this conclusion made Perfikot quite pleased, at least up to this point her plan was progressing smoothly, and the remaining task was completing the construction of shelters at these locations in due ti.

Regarding the shelter’s blueprints, Perfikot drafted them during this period.

Although there were two key factors of heating and insulation that urgently needed solving, the overall planning and architectural design posed no significant difficulty for Perfikot, only requiring so ti to complete the construction blueprints.

Once these issues were resolved, what remained for Perfikot was ensuring that the shelters could continue receiving heating and maintaining temperature during the upcoming apocalyptic cold winter.

In this problem, the latter was actually not difficult to solve.

Oliver’s friend was already researching related insulation materials, and Perfikot was also considering developing an insulation material.

Although Perfikot had no background or research in this area, she recalled that in the world she traversed from, insulation materials had been thriving for many years, with so materials exhibiting astonishing performance.

She rembered a special material called Star Rock, which despite being researched and developed by an uneducated barber, had performance so good it seed unbelievable.

Using flas of thousands of degrees to cook an egg for several minutes, theoretically, it should be fully cooked within seconds, but with Star Rock’s protection, the egg remained raw for several minutes.

This material could even resist lasers and supposed nuclear blasts, sparking widespread discussion and being considered to have great market potential.

Coincidentally, before crossing over, Perfikot had encountered similar items, thus understanding what it was all about.

To put it simply, this material ford a carbon foam structure under high-temperature roasting, achieving highly efficient heat dissipation and isolation.

Carbon itself is a very good heat dissipation material, capable of rapidly transferring heat.

The carbon foam structure transitions heat conduction from solid-state to vapor-phase conduction, with better thermal conductivity, even allowing direct touch without feeling high temperatures after roasting.

With these two factors combined, a miraculous high-performance fireproof material was thus born.

Combining these two elents, Perfikot was quite certain that if she was to create an insulation material, a porous foam-like structure would be the final form of this new material.

After all, before her crossing, the most popular insulation material in her original world, aerogel, was also a grid-like loose porous structure.

Even the newest aerogel products, a carbon sponge, had a remarkably similar effect to the carbon foam structure ford by heating Star Rock.

Nevertheless, carbon sponge is an already prepared material, whereas Star Rock still needs to be roasted to form carbon foam.

Thus, from a certain perspective, the barber who developed Star Rock was indeed impressive, almost thirty years ahead in developing this miraculous insulation material, initially intended for fireproofing.

And for Perfikot, knowing the principle, creating the sa thing wasn’t difficult.

She succeeded in creating Star Rock in almost the span of an afternoon tea session, and roasted it into carbon foam using an alcohol blowtorch.

Then, she attempted to observe this piece of carbon foam using the Eye of Omniscience, which unlocked new functions, to understand its attributes under the Eye and whether the Eye, with its analytic function unlocked, could deduce any useful technologies.

"Carbon Foam"

"Manufacturing Material: Crude"

"Manufacturing Process: Crude"

"Effect: Effectively isolates heat conduction, can absorb two hundred tis its volu in liquid, has high resilience."

"Evaluation: Baking flour and baking soda into a carbonized loose foam structure indeed achieves fireproof and insulation effects, but do you really intend to use this as construction material?"

"Analysis: Can acquire carbon sponge preparation thod, aerogel-related theory"

"Prepare carbon sponge?" Perfikot touched her smooth chin, frowning seriously as she pondered.

The evaluation in Jade Record did not concern her; if it was truly useful, using this to serve as building insulation material posed no problem.

Moreover, its preparation was not complex, even in a very rudintary environnt such material could be obtained, proving very suitable for the approaching apocalyptic cold winter, to confront extrely cold climates.

However, considering preparing her current batch of carbon foam requires torch scorching, she couldn’t deny it was sowhat uneconomical.

Even if she could design a production line for mass production in a factory, the output of such material wouldn’t be significant.

Additionally, considering the cumberso nature of construction, using a formula of baking flour with baking soda to prepare carbon foam material was rather ti-consuming and laborious, not very practical.

Furthermore, the insulation effect of Star Rock was excessive, being a material developed with fireproofing as its aim, capable of resisting thousands of degrees of heat, which was excessive for a construction solely requiring insulation.

Therefore, Perfikot planned to lower certain requirents and develop a new material that wasn’t as high-performing but simple and easy to produce.

In her original world, such material was not unheard of: the practical polyurethane fireproof foam spray in the construction industry.
