Now reading: Chapter 4: The Ceremony of Alignment from F-Rank Sold, Married to an S- Rank, a Fantasy novel by AryanDhull4622.

The Council Hall was larger than the Awakening Chamber, and far more severe.

Unlike the public plaza where rank was declared with spectacle, the Council Hall was designed for permanence. The walls were reinforced with layered mana-resistant alloys. Security fields shimred invisibly along the upper balconies. Every major faction had representation—human guild heads, elven council mbers, beastkin trade delegates, corporate observers, and military officials.

The ceremony was not romantic.

It was administrative.

Adrian stood at the base of the central platform wearing formal attire tailored overnight to match House Elion’s colors. The silver binding seal on his wrist remained visible. It was not hidden. It was a statent.

Above them, screens broadcast the event across the capital.

"Public alignnt between House Elion and civilian F-Rank asset Adrian Vale," the registrar announced.

Even the phrasing was deliberate.

Seraphine stood to his right, poised and immaculate in dark ceremonial fabric embroidered with subtle silver patterns that marked her lineage. Her presence alone altered the room’s pressure. S-Rank mana signatures were not subtle things; even when restrained, they weighed on others like gravity.

He felt it now more intensely than before.

The System stirred.

[High-Rank Proximity Detected.][Bond Resonance Increasing.]

He kept his breathing steady.

A murmur rippled through the upper gallery.

An elven councilor leaned toward another and whispered sothing that did not quite carry but did not need to. The implication was obvious.

An F-Rank standing beside an S-Rank looked wrong.

Intentionally wrong.

The registrar raised a thin tallic tablet inscribed with binding runes.

"Under Elven Succession Statute and Capital Civil Law, this union formalizes external alignnt and political stabilization rights. The groom acknowledges subordinate rank classification."

Subordinate rank classification.

The words were colder in public.

Adrian did not flinch.

"I acknowledge," he said.

His voice carried clearly.

A few observers shifted in surprise.

They had expected hesitation.

The registrar turned to Seraphine. "Lady Seraphine Elion, do you confirm contractual dominance and estate authority retention?"

"I confirm," she replied without pause.

Her tone was neither proud nor dismissive.

It was absolute.

The tablet was placed between them on a raised pedestal. Intricate silver lines traced across its surface, awaiting contact.

"Place your hands upon the seal," the registrar instructed.

Seraphine moved first.

Adrian followed.

The mont his palm touched the surface beside hers, the reaction was imdiate.

Not externally.

Internally.

The System ignited.

[Primary Bond Confird.][Growth Channel Unsealed.][Rank Suppression Bypassed — Temporary.]

A surge of energy moved through him—controlled but undeniable. His vision sharpened. Sounds clarified. The weight of Seraphine’s mana pressure no longer felt crushing.

It felt structured.

Aligned.

The seal flared bright silver, illuminating the hall for a brief mont.

Several observers straightened instinctively.

One of the guild representatives narrowed his eyes.

"That fluctuation—did you see it?" he whispered.

"Residual contract energy," another replied dismissively.

Seraphine withdrew her hand.

Her gaze flickered toward Adrian for half a second longer than necessary.

She felt it.

Not the System.

But the change.

His mana signature had shifted again.

Still weak.

Still classified F-Rank.

Yet cleaner.

Sharper.

The registrar completed the formal declaration.

"The union is recognized. House Elion’s external alignnt is secured."

Polite applause followed. Controlled. Political.

The ceremony ended without celebration.

Outside the Council Hall, reporters waited behind security barriers. Microphones extended. Caras focused.

Seraphine stepped forward first.

"This alignnt strengthens cooperative governance between capital factions," she stated smoothly. "Speculation beyond that is unnecessary."

"Lady Elion," one journalist called out, "why select an F-Rank specifically?"

Her expression did not change.

"Because I did."

The answer was enough to end the line of questioning.

Adrian remained half a step behind her, silent.

Another question followed.

"Adrian Vale, how does it feel to beco the husband of an S-Rank?"

He looked toward the caras.

There was no anger in his expression.

No embarrassnt.

"Unusual," he said calmly.

A faint ripple of amusent passed through the press.

He had not reacted the way they expected.

Seraphine turned slightly.

"Return to the estate," she instructed quietly.

He obeyed.

The drive back felt different.

Not because of external changes.

Because the System no longer felt dormant.

It pulsed steadily now.

[Bond Level Increased.][Passive Enhancent Active.]

He focused inward carefully.

There were still no visible nurical values.

But he could feel it.

His posture felt lighter. His senses slightly sharper. The lingering fatigue from the Awakening Ceremony had faded entirely.

The increase was subtle.

Controlled.

Yet undeniable.

Across from him, Seraphine studied him openly this ti.

"You adjusted during the seal," she said.

"I did?"

"Yes."

"Perhaps it was adrenaline."

Her gaze narrowed.

"F-Rank mana does not stabilize under S-Rank proximity."

"Maybe I’m adaptable."

She did not respond imdiately.

"You are either unusually composed," she said finally, "or unusually deceptive."

"Is there a difference?"

"Yes."

"Which would you prefer?"

Her lips curved very slightly—not a smile, but acknowledgnt of the challenge.

"I prefer predictability," she said.

"That may disappoint you."

The carriage fell silent again.

The pulse inside him intensified.

[Proximity Synergy Strengthening.]

Interesting.

The closer she watched him, the stronger the reaction.

It was not emotional.

It was structural.

The System responded to connection.

To alignnt.

To bond.

Back at the estate, evening light spilled across the city. Servants moved quietly through the corridors. The household had already adjusted its behavior toward him—more cautious now, less dismissive.

News had spread.

He was no longer rely an F-Rank asset.

He was publicly tied to an S-Rank house.

That distinction mattered.

Seraphine stopped near the central staircase.

"You will attend tomorrow’s council dinner," she said. "There will be scrutiny."

"I expected that."

"You will remain composed."

"I will."

She paused before ascending.

"If today’s fluctuation repeats," she added, "I will investigate."

"I wouldn’t expect less."

She studied him one last ti before turning away.

Alone again in his quarters, Adrian closed the door and leaned against it.

The System activated instantly.

[Active Growth Path Available.][Condition: Strengthen Primary Bond.][Requirent: Contact / Trust / Influence.]

Trust.

Influence.

Not domination.

Not control.

Interesting.

The System was not forcing imdiate power.

It was structured progression.

He walked toward the window overlooking the illuminated skyline.

An F-Rank.

Married into power.

Standing inside an estate that underestimated him.

He raised his hand slowly and focused.

The air around his palm felt slightly denser.

Not visible.

But responsive.

The enhancent was small.

Barely asurable.

Yet impossible under standard F-Rank limitations.

He exhaled slowly.

The world believed rank was absolute.

The Core had declared him worthless.

The Council had formalized his subordinate status.

Seraphine believed he posed no threat.

That assumption might prove valuable.

The System pulsed once more.

[Next Threshold Approaching.]

He allowed himself the faintest hint of a smile.

Let them watch.

Let them calculate.

Let them dismiss.

For the first ti in his life, the structure of rank felt... negotiable.

And if proximity to power strengthened him—

Then he was standing in the most advantageous place possible.

"Power builds empires. Power Stones build rankings. Support the climb."
