Now reading: Chapter 2 — Opportunity Never Knocks Twice from FOOTBALL GOD SYSTEM: RISE OF A MONARCH, a Sports novel by SegunMayowajohn.

Sean Cole Nelson barely slept.

Every ti he closed his eyes, the glowing blue interface returned.

The words.

The numbers.

The impossible floating screen hanging in the darkness of his room.

Even now, as weak morning sunlight slipped through the curtains, Sean sat upright on his bed staring into empty space.

His heartbeat remained uneven.

Slowly—

Carefully—

He whispered:

"Status."

Ding.

The blue screen appeared instantly.

[FOOTBALL MONARCH SYSTEM ONLINE]

HOST: SEAN COLE NELSON

LEVEL: Beginner Player

CURRENT STATUS: Speed: 61

Dribbling: 67

Passing: 55

Vision: 58

Football IQ: 63

Composure: 60

Physical Resistance: 49

Sean inhaled sharply.

Still there.

Still real.

He reached toward the screen again.

Nothing.

His fingers passed through empty air.

But the interface remained stable before his eyes.

A system.

A real system.

His mind raced with hundreds of thoughts simultaneously.

How?

Why him?

Was he hallucinating?

Dreaming?

Chosen?

He didn’t know.

And honestly—

At that mont—

He didn’t care.

Because for the first ti in his life...

Sothing extraordinary had happened to him.

"Cole!"

His mother’s voice echoed through the house.

"Co downstairs before your food gets cold!"

The system vanished instantly.

Sean blinked.

Then exhaled slowly before standing.

His legs still felt weak from shock.

Downstairs, the familiar sll of fried eggs and bread filled the small dining area.

Mrs Nelson stood near the kitchen while adjusting plates.

Mr Nelson sat quietly reading through papers before work.

Normal.

Everything looked painfully normal.

anwhile Sean’s entire life had changed overnight.

Mrs Nelson noticed his face imdiately.

"You look terrible."

"I’m fine."

"You said that yesterday."

Sean forced a small smile before sitting.

His father folded the papers slowly.

"That event yesterday..."

Sean looked up imdiately.

"Yes, sir?"

"That man. Chief Bassey."

Sean tried remaining calm.

"What about him?"

"He called this morning."

Sean froze.

Mrs Nelson crossed her arms.

"He asked about you."

Sean’s chest tightened slightly.

"What did he say?"

Mr Nelson studied him carefully.

"He wants you to visit his academy."

Silence.

Complete silence.

Sean’s heartbeat accelerated imdiately.

The academy.

Bassey Elite Football Academy.

Not local football.

Not roadside matches.

An actual elite academy connected to Europe.

Ding.

[NEW OBJECTIVE GENERATED]

ENTER ELITE FOOTBALL ENVIRONNT

REWARD: • Increased System Synchronization • Skill Observation Unlock • Growth Acceleration

Sean nearly dropped his spoon.

The system reacted instantly.

Which ant one terrifying thing:

This opportunity mattered.

A lot.

Mrs Nelson sighed softly.

"You know football is uncertain."

Sean lowered his gaze.

"Yes, Mum."

"You still need education."

"Yes, Mum."

"You still need discipline."

"Yes, Mum."

Mr Nelson interrupted calmly.

"Let the boy breathe."

Mrs Nelson looked frustrated.

"I’m trying to protect him."

"I know."

The room quieted slightly.

Sean understood both sides.

His mother feared disappointnt.

His father feared regret.

And sohow he stood between both fears.

Two hours later, Sean stood outside the gates of Bassey Elite Football Academy.

And imdiately realized this place existed on a completely different level.

The gates alone looked more expensive than so buildings in his neighborhood.

Professional training pitches stretched across massive open space.

Players trained in matching kits.

Coaches barked instructions sharply.

Fitness staff monitored drills professionally.

Everything looked organized.

Structured.

Elite.

Sean instinctively adjusted his old backpack.

For the first ti in a long ti...

He felt small.

A black SUV rolled into the compound smoothly.

Sean stepped aside instinctively.

Then the window lowered.

Isabella Bassey looked out.

Her eyes widened slightly.

"You actually ca."

Sean smiled faintly.

"You sound surprised."

"A little."

She stepped out monts later.

Even casually dressed, she looked elegant effortlessly.

Sean hated how noticeable that was.

Isabella walked beside him toward the main facility.

"My father doesn’t invite people here casually."

"That sounds dangerous."

She laughed softly.

"It usually is."

Sean noticed several academy players staring at them.

More specifically—

At him.

A random unknown boy walking beside Isabella Bassey imdiately attracted attention.

And not positive attention either.

Inside the academy building, Sean felt overwheld.

Wall-sized photos displayed forr academy graduates now playing professionally in Europe.

France.

Portugal.

Belgium.

Netherlands.

So even reached top leagues.

Sean stopped briefly before one fra.

A young Nigerian player wearing a European club jersey.

Success.

Proof.

Proof that escape was possible.

Isabella noticed his expression.

"You’re thinking."

Sean nodded slightly.

"This place changes lives."

Her voice softened unexpectedly.

"Yes."

Sothing about the way she said it carried hidden emotion.

Before Sean could ask—

A whistle echoed loudly outside.

Training.

Isabella gestured ahead.

"Co. My father wants you to observe first."

The main training field looked unreal.

Perfect grass.

Perfect lines.

Perfect structure.

Sean’s eyes imdiately tracked the players.

Fast passing drills.

Tight movent.

Explosive transitions.

The quality difference compared to street football was terrifying.

Then—

Sean noticed one player instantly.

Tall.

Athletic.

Sharp movent.

Every touch carried confidence.

The others adjusted around him naturally.

A leader.

Or maybe sothing more dangerous.

The player stopped briefly and glanced toward Sean.

Cold eyes.

asured expression.

Assessnt.

Then he returned to training.

Isabella followed Sean’s gaze.

"That’s Kayode Stone."

Even the na sounded heavy.

"Best player here?"

"According to himself? Yes."

Sean smirked slightly.

Interesting.

A sharp voice cut through the field.

"Focus!"

Every player straightened imdiately.

Coach Marko Velez stepped onto the pitch.

European.

Late forties.

Cold expression.

The type of coach who looked permanently disappointed.

Even silence beca heavier around him.

His eyes shifted toward Sean.

"New boy?"

Sean stepped forward slightly.

"Yes, sir."

"Na."

"Sean Cole Nelson."

"Position."

"Wing. Attacking midfield too."

Coach Velez nodded once.

No praise.

No warmth.

Then suddenly—

He kicked a football toward Sean violently.

Fast.

Unexpected.

Sean reacted instantly.

Perfect first touch.

The ball died beneath his foot smoothly.

A few nearby players looked over imdiately.

Coach Velez’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Interesting.

"Join the passing drill."

No introduction.

No comfort.

Just pressure.

Sean swallowed slowly before stepping onto the pitch.

And imdiately felt the difference.

Everything here moved faster.

The ball speed.

The movent.

The decision-making.

Street football rewarded flair.

Elite football punished hesitation.

Sean struggled instantly.

Passes ca harder.

Players pressed aggressively.

Mistakes got exposed imdiately.

Then—

Ding.

[ELITE ENVIRONNT DETECTED]

[FIELD ANALYSIS MODE AVAILABLE]

Sean froze briefly.

The world around him subtly changed.

Movent beca sharper.

Passing lanes clearer.

Pressure zones easier to identify.

Not magical.

Not slow motion.

Just... enhanced understanding.

Sean adjusted quickly.

Very quickly.

Too quickly.

One pass.

Then another.

Sharp movent.

Better positioning.

Within minutes, he stopped looking lost.

Kayode noticed first.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

The new boy was adapting unusually fast.

Coach Velez noticed too.

And unlike Kayode—

He looked interested.

The drill intensified.

Sean received the ball under pressure near midfield.

Two players closed him down instantly.

No escape angle.

No ti.

Then—

Ding.

[SKILL OBSERVATION ACTIVE]

OBSERVING: Body Feint chanics Balance Shift Timing

Sean’s body moved instinctively.

One feint left.

Sharp pivot.

Acceleration burst.

He escaped both defenders cleanly.

Silence hit briefly across the drill.

Even Sean froze internally.

What was that?

It felt natural.

Too natural.

Coach Velez stared carefully now.

Kayode’s expression hardened slightly.

Because he understood sothing imdiately:

Sean wasn’t lucky.

He was dangerous.

Training continued.

Sean’s confidence slowly grew.

Not arrogance.

Adaptation.

The system constantly fed him tiny pieces of information.

Movent angles.

Pressure awareness.

Positioning cues.

It felt like football itself was slowly becoming easier to read.

Then ca the scrimmage.

Small-sided match.

High intensity.

Coach Velez split the teams quickly.

Sean ended up opposite Kayode.

The academy players exchanged looks imdiately.

Bad luck.

Very bad luck.

Because Kayode Stone hated being challenged.

The whistle blew.

Instant pressure exploded.

Kayode dominated imdiately.

Fast feet.

Sharp passing.

Aggressive movent.

Every action carried authority.

Sean watched carefully.

Not intimidated.

Studying.

Learning.

The system flickered repeatedly.

[OBSERVATION ACTIVE]

[PRESSURE DRIBBLE DETECTED]

[ADVANCED BODY CONTROL DETECTED]

Sean’s eyes sharpened.

So this was elite talent.

Not tricks.

Not flashy nonsense.

Efficiency.

Every movent existed for a reason.

Then Kayode received the ball near midfield.

One touch.

Turn.

Acceleration.

He destroyed two defenders instantly before threading a perfect pass forward.

GOAL.

The players reacted loudly.

Kayode jogged back calmly.

No celebration.

Like excellence was normal for him.

As he passed Sean—

He spoke quietly.

"You don’t belong here yet."

Sean said nothing.

But sothing inside him reacted.

Not anger.

Challenge.

The ga resud.

Sean focused harder now.

Every movent mattered.

Every touch carried pressure.

Then his mont ca.

A loose pass rolled toward him near the wing.

A defender closed quickly.

Sean controlled the ball smoothly.

The defender lunged aggressively.

And suddenly—

Everything beca quiet.

Sean saw it.

The angle.

The imbalance.

The opening.

His body moved automatically.

A sharp drag-back.

Acceleration burst.

The defender got left behind instantly.

Gasps erupted nearby.

Sean continued forward.

Another player stepped up.

Sean slipped the ball between his legs cleanly.

The sideline exploded.

"AYYYY!"

"Madness!"

Even Coach Velez leaned forward slightly.

Sean entered the final third.

Then delivered a sharp low cross into the box.

GOAL.

Silence followed briefly.

Not because of the goal.

Because of the sequence.

Kayode stared at Sean now properly for the first ti.

Not dismissively.

Seriously.

Because only footballers understood what they had just witnessed.

That wasn’t luck.

That was instinct under pressure.

Rare instinct.

Dangerous instinct.

The match ended minutes later.

Players walked off breathing heavily.

Sean wiped sweat from his forehead slowly.

His chest rose rapidly from exhaustion.

But internally—

Excitent burned violently.

Because now he knew sothing for certain:

He could survive here.

Maybe even dominate eventually.

Coach Velez approached him calmly.

"What academy did you say you ca from?"

"I never played academy football, sir."

Silence.

The coach studied him carefully.

Then:

"Interesting."

That single word carried weight.

Heavy weight.

Kayode overheard it too.

And his expression darkened slightly.

Because praise from Velez was rare.

Very rare.

Later that evening...

Sean sat alone outside the academy building waiting for transportation ho.

The sunset painted the sky orange and gold.

His body ached from training.

But he smiled anyway.

Then Isabella appeared beside him holding two bottled drinks.

She handed one over casually.

"You survived."

Sean laughed softly.

"Barely."

"You impressed them."

"Not everyone."

Isabella smiled knowingly.

"Kayode?"

Sean nodded.

"He doesn’t like ."

"He doesn’t like competition."

Sean opened the drink slowly.

For a mont silence settled comfortably between them.

Then Isabella asked quietly:

"Why football?"

Sean looked toward the distant training field.

Long pause.

Then:

"Because it’s the only thing that ever made feel like my life could beco bigger."

Isabella stared at him quietly after that.

And sothing shifted subtly in her eyes.

Interest.

Real interest.

Not curiosity anymore.

Sothing deeper.

That night, as Sean finally returned ho exhausted—

The system activated again.

Ding.
