"I want nothing from you," Elyndra replied calmly, stepping past him to inspect the dead boar from a different angle. " I was just scanning this sector and felt a massive, violent spike in ambient essence a few days ago. I ca to this region tracking that disturbance."

She straightened, brushing a stray lock of hair behind her ears. "Your local tribes are really too loud. Always making a ruckus for nothing."

She turned back to look at him.

"You just survived a rather massive beast tide, didn’t you?" Vael asked, her tone carrying a hint of genuine curiosity. "Your tribe believes they have weathered the storm. They are patching their wooden fences and celebrating their survival."

Elyndra’s glowing violet eyes narrowed slightly, the amusent fading into a cold seriousness.

"But they are blind," she continued quietly. "The creatures that attacked your walls did not randomly frenzy. That was a coordinated, manufactured event."

Sol’s heart skipped a beat. He rembered the bizarre behavior of the horde. The way the beasts had ignored pain, fear, and self-preservation, crashing against the palisades like a living tide driven by sothing far worse than hunger.

"Manufactured?" Sol asked, his voice dead serious. "By who? The Zharun? Zerith"

"Zerith. Yes. I think that’s what they are called. But they are too primitive to pull off sothing of that scale alone," Elyndra nodded. "They had help. They got help from soone from a stronger region who smuggled sothing very dangerous into this jungle."

Sol tightened his grip on his spear. "What did they smuggle?"

"You don’t need to know that," she said, waving a hand dismissively. "Just know that it is sothing... not very good."

Elyndra’s glowing violet eyes narrowed slightly, and her expression grew darker as she gazed toward the impenetrable heart of the jungle.

" Anyway, the creatures that attacked your walls were not an invading force. They were just refugees."

Sol’s heart skipped a beat. He rembered the terror in the beasts’ eyes now... the way they had looked past the tribe’s defenses, as if the wooden walls were rely an obstacle between them and sothing far more horrifying.

it wasn’t just primal rage. It was fear. They were running from sothing much, much worse.

"Running from what?" Sol asked, his voice turning grave..

"From the awakening," Elyndra said, looking toward the deepest, darkest part of the Great Orrath jungle. "The deep rot, as your people call it. Those fools used that thing to awaken the true sovereigns of this jungle. And coincidently, your tribe happened to sit directly on the path of the fleeing beast’s migration."

She exhaled softly. "The beasts you killed were driven completely mad by the movent and ambient pressure of a higher-tier entity stirring from its slumber."

Sol swallowed. "A higher-tier entity? You an a Layer 4 beast?"

Elyndra let out a soft, pitying sigh.

"Layer 4," she repeated, shaking her head, as though the words themselves were childish. "Your native scale is so adorably small. Layer 4 is rely the threshold where a creature begins to understand how to manipulate atmospheric essence. No, what is waking up in the deep rot is not a beast. It is a calamity for you guys. An apex predator from an older age."

She looked back at him. "It will not stop at the edges of your wooden walls. When it fully awakens, it will consu the entire little nursery you guys call Great Orrath. Your Warchief’s strength, your Shaman’s storms, and your newly acquired strength will be entirely irrelevant."

"Then why are you telling ?" Sol challenged, his paranoia flaring back up. "If you’re just a traveler, why give a warning? Why not just watch us all get eaten?"

Elyndra’s lips curved into that sa small, superior smile.

"Because, as I said, you are an anomaly,"Her tail flicked with clear amusent. "Anomalies introduce chaos into predictable systems. And I happen to enjoy chaos. It makes my observations infinitely more entertaining."

Before Sol could formulate a response, the ambient temperature in the ravine suddenly plumted.

The thick, humid air of the jungle instantly turned freezing cold. The heavy coppery stench of boar blood and gore was violently overwritten by a sharp, suffocating reek of concentrated acidic rot.. like vinegar mixed with decaying flesh and sulfur.

Sol’s Layer 2 senses scread in absolute, unfiltered terror. .

He didn’t just feel danger; he felt the absolute certainty of death. The heavy, tectonic anchor of the Great Badger groaned under a sudden, crushing atmospheric pressure. Every hair on his body stood on end.

Sothing was coming out of the tree line. And coming very fast.

But even though he could feel that sothing was coming, but there was no sound. It was as if the whole jungle was actively making way for it.

And in a mont, it had reached them, he opened his eyes wide to take a good look, his whole-body tense and ready for either attack or fleeing.

It was a spider. But it made the Layer 2 On-Blood spiders he had fought during the siege look like harmless house pets. This thing was easily the size of a three-story building. Its bloated abdon scraping against the upper canopy. Chitinous plates the color of spoiled obsidian covered its body, leaking thick, smoking acid that hissed and lted everything it touched.

Eight massive eyes burned with sickly, radioactive green light. Its mandibles... each longer than Sol was tall... clicked wetly, dripping corrosive venom that carved smoking craters into the ground.

It was truly a Monster.

A true Layer 4 Apex.

He didn’t expect that he would et his first Layer 4 like this and so soon.

The monster had locked its eight glowing eyes directly on Sol and Elyndra.

Sol’s breathing hitched. His Sun Core flooded his veins, roaring at maximum capacity. He didn’t even think and shifted his stance, bringing his spear up. He rapidly ran the tactical calculations in his head.

Speed? Too big to dodge completely. Acid splash radius is massive.

Defense? Layer 2 defense might stop a glancing blow, but a direct hit from those mandibles will cut in half.

Offense? Spear won’t penetrate that thick armor like skin.

He was outmatched. Completely, hopelessly outmatched. He had just hit Layer 2, and the jungle had instantly sent sothing to remind him he was still at the bottom of the food chain.
