As the door closed, the ambulance sounded its siren and set off.
In the city, it was the rush hour traffic peak. The ambulance had not gone far before getting stuck in traffic. The dical staff in the vehicle were a bit anxious.
“How far is the patient’s school from us?” Xin Yanjun asked the driver who knew the destination. Given the unknown status of the patient, the ergency doctor wished to arrive as early as possible, fearing they might miss the critical mont to save a life.
“If all goes well, about half an hour.” said the driver.
A half-hour drive was considered pretty good. It’s the common problem of big cities; they are too large. Driving from the east side to the west could sotis take more than two or three hours.
The ergency center tried its best to dispatch the nearest hospital to the patient, but if there was no ambulance available at nearby hospitals, there was no choice but to call from a farther hospital.
The reason Xin Yanjun asked this question was that sitting in the car, they could see several other hospitals they passed by, counting two or three. In other words, there were hospitals closer to the patient, which would definitely be faster if they were called out.
Ambulance stuck in traffic could be deadly for ergency patients. The raised siren of the ambulance couldn’t move the piled-up cars even a bit. In those days, the general public’s concept of giving way to ambulances was far from up to standard.
The dical staff could only do their utmost to hurry and pray that the patient on-site could wait for their arrival.
It felt like it took a long ti. Xie Wanying looked at the watch on her wrist, and now it’s almost an hour since they left the hospital. Stuck in traffic for nearly half an hour, making Teacher Xin lose his temper.
“We’re here, we’re here,” the nurse said joyfully.
Everyone looked out the window, seeing the shadow of a school at the entrance, a middle school nad City No. 8 Middle School.
“This school has decent academic performance.” The nurse said, trying to ease the suddenly tense atmosphere inside the car.
The premonition of the dical staff was not good, mainly due to the prolonged traffic jam and a series of events that followed. The security guard at the gate of the school, upon seeing the ambulance, slowly opened the gate. The school should have been better prepared rather than waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
Once the gate opened, the ambulance drove into the middle school campus.
The nurse said that this school was rather good, and maybe it was true; it had good greenery, with significant ancient trees, appearing to be a campus with so history.
