If the student can handle this patient on their own, what is the teacher coming back for? Doing so will only hinder the student’s progress.
The phone call went through, and after a few beeps.
With a click, the phone line connected.
Shen Xifei’s heart raced; she wasn’t the one making the call, but even watching, Nie Jiamin seed intimidating.
She didn’t know where Student Xie Wanying got the courage to make the call out of the blue, daring to disturb such a big authority in the dead of night — truly, she lived up to her reputation of being single-minded.
"Hello, Teacher Nie," Xie Wanying said.
"Hello," Nie Jiamin responded with customary politeness, then recognized her voice with curiosity, "Is it Xie Wanying?"
"Yes, Teacher Nie, it’s ."
"What can I do for you?" Nie Jiamin asked.
Here we go, suddenly calling to bother the boss, probably going to get scolded by the boss. Shen Xifei could imagine how Student Xie might awkwardly end the conversation.
"It’s alright, speak slowly," Nie Jiamin added.
Teacher Nie had a slow pace, even more patient and stable than Senior Tao, reminding her to clearly report the situation. Xie Wanying nodded.
Shen Xifei was surprised to hear: What? The boss is telling Student Xie to speak slowly about what?
Teacher Nie also understood Student Xie quite well, knowing that if she called, it wouldn’t be for personal reasons but likely for so patient.
Xie Wanying began to briefly report the patient’s situation to the teacher: "The mother was less than thirty-six weeks pregnant and unfortunately got into a car accident, suffered acute brain herniation, and has passed away. We’ve just perford a PMCS and taken the fetus out. The newborn’s breathing is weak and irregular after leaving the mother, heartbeat is about 90 beats per minute, cyanosis around the mouth and cold extremities, no crying or response when slapped on the soles, low muscle tone. The initial judgnt is an Apgar score of three, indicating neonatal respiratory distress syndro. Due to the special situation, it was impossible to give the mother prenatal steroids to enhance lung maturity."
"The baby’s mother passed away," Nie Jiamin said after hearing her report; with a healer’s empathy, his voice carried a hint of heaviness.
"Yes, the patient passed away not long ago," Xie Wanying answered, holding back emotions. "Before the mother died, she protected her belly with both hands, trying to shield her baby."
"Where are you now? Are you on the road?" Nie Jiamin heard so noise on the other side and asked.
"Yes. If you agree, Teacher Nie, we’d like to send the newborn to Guoxie for ergency care," Xie Wanying said.
"Sure, bring the baby over. I’m heading back to the hospital."
Receiving Teacher Nie’s consent, Xie Wanying hung up the phone.
Listening from the other side, Shen Xifei, uncertain, asked her, "What did Teacher Nie say?"
"He agreed; he said we could send the baby to Guoxie," Xie Wanying replied.
"Really?" Shen Xifei only rembered that Xie Wanying hadn’t spoken much during the call; how did she convince Nie Jiamin? It seed as if Nie Jiamin was quite familiar with Xie Wanying to agree so readily.
Doubting the truth, Shen Xifei thought of calling back to verify with Teacher Nie.
But Shen Xifei couldn’t make the call; she didn’t even have Nie Jiamin’s personal number and frustratedly asked, "How do you have Teacher Nie’s private phone number?"
Of course, it was given to her by Nie Jiamin.
Shen Xifei’s jaw nearly dropped as she mumbled: This student Xie Wanying is incredibly good at ingratiating the teachers; she even managed to befriend Nie Jiamin without knowing what tactics Xie Wanying employed.
Still, no matter how she ingratiated herself to the teacher, how could Nie Jiamin trust a dical student to verbally report the situation over the phone?
