Feeling relieved, Xie Wanying found a chair in the office, sat down, and rolled up her pant leg.
The injury on her knee wasn’t severe, just so scrapes with a bit of bruising, which should heal on its own in a few days. Compared to this minor injury, her stomach growled with hunger. She had finished all the snacks in her backpack during the taxi ride and could only make do with instant milk powder oatal back at the dorm. Suddenly, her phone rang, and she didn’t know who was calling. Xie Wanying took out her phone to check; it was Senior Chang’s number.
Chang Jiawei was now off the front-line and second-line shifts and had started working third-line. Typically, second-line and third-line doctors would choose to go ho rather than linger at the hospital. After climbing up to this point, no doctor would like to continue working day and night at the hospital; going ho to rest is best.
Answering the call, Xie Wanying asked, "Teacher Chang?"
"It’s . I’m at the hospital. I heard you ca to Guoxie?" Chang Jiawei asked her from the other end.
The senior was in the hospital because a patient needed ergency care, requiring doctors from above to co back and help, and he happened to hear about her coming to Guoxie. Xie Wanying thought so, without any suspicion, and said, "Yes. Is Teacher Chang busy in orthopedics?"
No, the third section of the orthopedics departnt was quiet, with no ergency calls, and he was strolling in his old classmate Fu Xinheng’s office. Specifically, he was learning, a side effect of being inspired by that surgery. Trying to guess what she, a straightforward person, might be thinking was out of the question, Chang Jiawei squinted and said, "It’s so late, are you having a late-night snack?"
"I’m going back to school; I have food in my dorm," Xie Wanying, who couldn’t lie, answered truthfully.
The call was just right. Chang Jiawei’s eyebrows raised with excitent as he said, "Fu and I are getting a late-night snack. As I said before, we’ll often treat you to als. What do you want to eat? We’ll treat you together."
"There’s no need to be so formal, Teacher Chang."
"You don’t need to be formal with . Are you in the pediatrics departnt now? I’ll co to find you." After speaking, worried she might refuse, Chang Jiawei hurriedly grabbed his phone and prepared to head out.
As he reached the doorway, he bumped into Fu Xinheng, who was about to enter the office.
Seeing him in a rush, Fu Xinheng asked, "Ergency in your departnt?"
"No," Chang Jiawei said, waving his phone, "When the late-night snack arrives, just leave it here; I’ll go get Yingying to co over and eat."
"Did she co to the hospital?" Zhou Junpeng, who was on duty and followed behind Fu Xinheng, asked in surprise when he heard that Xie Wanying had arrived. He thought that her coming to the hospital late at night must not be for a good reason, given she wasn’t on duty or studying.
Seeing these people claiming to want her to join the cardiothoracic departnt, but not paying attention to her movents at all, Chang Jiawei shook his head disapprovingly at them, "You should at least care about her a bit. I’ve said it many tis, to win a girl’s heart, the most important thing is care and affection."
Fu Xinheng and Zhou Junpeng were montarily stunned, unable to react.
Ignoring the two dazed ones, Chang Jiawei ran out quickly.
Upon hearing that the senior was going to find her, Xie Wanying could only stay in the pediatrics office and wait. She didn’t expect Senior Chang to arrive so quickly.
Not long after, Senior Chang’s voice echoed in the corridor.
"Doctor Hu, how are your eyes?" Chang Jiawei said.
