Chapter 554: 【554】The last rescue Chapter 554: 【554】The last rescue Hearing this, Miao Fen, who had woken up in the middle of the night, instantly covered her mouth with her hand: “Is Dr. Gao here?”

“We’re going to notify him now.”

“You notify him, and tell him to save my mother-in-law at all costs! I’m begging you, doctor, I’m bringing the child over now—,” Miao Fen said.

In the hospital room, the monitoring equipnt suddenly beeped an alarm.

Li Qi’an, holding his cell phone, turned around, his eyes fixed as the phone slipped from his hand.

The mont Xie Wanying saw that the patient’s heart had stopped, she imdiately began performing chest compressions on the patient.

The alarm sound brought others over.

“Notify Doctor Sun!”

Upon receiving the intercom ssage, Sun Yubo sprang from his resting bed, rushing out without properly donning his white coat: “What’s the blood pressure? What’s the heart rate? Has Dr. Gao been notified?”

“We’re making the call!”

Rushing into the hospital room and seeing Xie Wanying performing chest compressions, Sun Yubo moved to the head of the bed, opened the patient’s eyelids to check their pupils: “Has epinephrine been administered?”

“It’s being pushed!” the nurse said urgently as she administered the injection.

Ah, this patient’s prognosis seems grim. Although everyone was aware that the patient had only a day or two left to live. But the current situation was, the patient’s family—

“Have the family mbers been notified?” Sun Yubo turned and bellowed.

“He’s on the phone.” Xie Wanying answered while continuing the chest compressions.

It was only then that Sun Yubo’s gaze fell on Li Qi’an, who stood at the entrance of the room like he was stunned, and scolded, “You co here, take over for her!”

For a mont, Li Qi’an seed not to have heard his ntor’s voice, standing immobile as if he were a wooden statue. Not until a nurse, rushing in with the defibrillator, pushed him, nearly making him stumble and fall, did he look up again.

“Defibrillate,” Sun Yubo ordered, “200!”

The defibrillator was plugged in and ready, the knob turned to the value of 200. Conductive gel was quickly applied to the paddles, and Xie Wanying paused the chest compressions. Sun Yubo took over the two defibrillation paddles and placed them on the patient’s chest, shouting, “Clear!”

All personnel stepped away from the bedside.

Bang!

The patient’s body jumped on the bed.

After a while, the monitor showed a straight line as the heart rate without any change.

“250!” Sun Yubo ordered again.

The defibrillator knob was turned to the value of 250.

The second defibrillation.

Bang!

The patient’s body jumped on the bed once more.

Other onlookers perceived this visual as if the patient were a dead shrimp or fish on a chopping board making its last gasp. This thought flashed involuntarily through Li Qi’an’s mind, chilling him to the core.

He was a dical student, but he had never seen such a scene before, and this was his first ti encountering it in his years of study. The impact was imnse because the patient was soone he had gotten to know well recently.

“It’s no use,” the nurse said anxiously as she looked at the straight lines on the monitor, even more impatient than the doctors.

Another defibrillation would be aningless; it would rely shock the patient’s skin. Sun Yubo set down the paddles, saying, “Continue compressions.”

Rolling up her sleeves, Xie Wanying resud the chest compressions on the patient.

At this mont, the doctor’s actions were not solely about saving the patient, for everyone knew the patient was beyond resuscitation. But the doctor needed to continue diligently, completing the designated clinical resuscitation ti for a reason.

One reason was, perhaps there could still be a miracle? And another was to keep going until the family arrived. The doctor’s actions indicated that the resuscitation was ongoing and the patient might still be alive.
