Having a lesion in the head is a big deal.
Beep beep beep—after a long series of tones, soone finally picked up the phone.
“Hello, who is it?”
“Senior Brother Huang, it’s , Xie Wanying.”
“What’s wrong?” Huang Zhilei asked from the other end.
“It’s like this, Senior Brother, there’s an ergency. Can you co back to the departnt right now?” Xie Wanying tried hard to explain the situation over the phone. There was silence from Huang Zhilei, which almost drove her mad with anxiety.

“Senior Brother, Senior Brother?” Xie Wanying called out twice.
“I’m here.”
Huh? Senior Brother’s voice wasn’t on the phone anymore. Xie Wanying looked up.
Standing in front of the nurse’s station was Huang Zhilei, smiling at her while putting his cell phone back into the pocket of his white coat.
She had been feeling very tense, but now, seeing Senior Brother’s smiling face and rembering his previous assurance that he’d have her back in any problem, Xie Wanying relaxed and said, “Senior Brother, a patient needs a head CT scan.”
“What patient? Where’s Doctor Wang?” Huang Zhilei inquired about the situation.
“Doctor Wang is in the dressing room, and Director Lv is there too. I suggested to them, but they want the patient to go back without any further examination. I’m worried sothing might happen.”
His junior sister’s words made Huang Zhilei blink. So it was Director Lv’s patient? That’s tricky to deal with.
“What’s the condition of the patient?” Trusting his junior sister, Huang Zhilei asked for more details.
“The patient has a right-side frontal head injury and was admitted to the neurosurgery ward. They are currently in the dressing room for wound stitching, with the wound about half a finger long, requiring a couple of stitches. Director Lv is attending to it. However, the wound is quite deep, and rather than being an operational mishap in a factory or an injury from falling objects, it’s most likely from a fall or a collision. It’s possible that the patient might have experienced a transient loss of consciousness or dizziness leading to the accident, and personally, I think it’s better to be thorough with the examinations.”
Listening carefully to his junior sister’s reasoning, Huang Zhilei pondered before further questioning her, “She herself didn’t say it was an operational injury in the factory or from falling objects, so how did she get injured? Didn’t she say?”
“Doctor Wang wouldn’t let ask. But she doesn’t dress like a worker.”
The female patient and her son were quite well-dressed, and besides, being Director Lv’s special guests, how could they possibly be workers?
“Doesn’t look like a worker, and it’s Director Lv’s patient.” Mulling over his junior sister’s words, Huang Zhilei turned to ask soone else, “Senior Cao—”
Senior Cao?
Hearing this na, Xie Wanying’s mories flashed back to more than three years ago, to a scene with a certain soone at the ergency departnt entrance of her aunt’s hospital. To be fair, a handso doctor like Handso Cao was hard to forget wherever he went.
Could it be that Handso Cao had co back?
Suddenly, the night-shift nurse’s shriek echoed down the corridor, “Dr. Cao, you’re back!!!”
Cao Yong led the way, followed by Xiao Du, who was carrying his luggage bag.
Xiao Du didn’t dare to utter a word, closely trailing behind Cao Yong, her curiosity piqued by this legendary surgeon of their hospital, whom she was seeing for the first ti as a new staff mber.
“Yes, I’ve just co back. How are you all?” Cao Yong greeted his colleagues and nurses warmly, “I heard from the director and head nurse that you got married last year. Did you receive the wedding gift I sent?”
One thing about Handso Cao was really admirable: although he was a top student, he was never arrogant. He was always polite and courteous and generally maintained good relations with his colleagues.
