However, the remaining Demon Trees, already warned by their companions before dying, flailed their vine tentacles wildly, picking up any tools from the ground as makeshift missiles, launching them indiscriminately whether they were Withered Vine Creatures, Withering Needle Monsters, or their own self-incubated Demon Treants. In desperation, they even plucked immature Demon Treant fruits and hurled them forth.
Even the surrounding Demon Trees synchronized their efforts, unleashing an indiscriminate bombardnt, denying any chance for those Semi-Legendary Spellcaster teams to approach.
A team that got too close triggered another attack chanism of the Demon Trees, their thorn spines suddenly shot out in concentrated volleys. Although called thorn spines, their thickness and length were even more terrifying than the crossbow arrows on the City Defense Crossbow Carts of Usr, glinting with a black sheen. Being struck by such thorn spines would not only penetrate but likely cause imdiate paralysis.
These thorn spines did not fire one by one but in clusters of dozens, forming a dense array of arrows.
“Don’t get too close, safety first, engage in long-range casting.”
The four Semi-Legendary Spellcaster teams almost unanimously reached the sa decision.
All spells with range — be it short, dium, or long-range — have their casting distances vary, linked to their Professional Level. The higher the Professional Level, the further the range, which implies increased Magic Power cohesion, slowing the rate of magic exhaustion, allowing it to fly farther.
The teor Burst they cast could reach a maximum range of three hundred ters, well beyond the range of those Demon Trees’ throws and Thorn Tree Spikes.
Spanning more than three hundred ters, the teor Burst spell beca even more brilliant, with a massive fireball trailing a long teoric tail across the night sky, hurling towards the towering Demon Trees.

Those Demon Trees naturally wouldn’t stand idly by as the teor Fireballs fell upon them; they deployed their thods in full.
Not only did their vine tentacles effuse to the extre, tossing countless live intercepting projectiles, but their thorn tree spikes shook and fired with abandon, not just in one wave but in five or six, maximizing interception effectiveness.
A vast majority of the teor Fireballs had no chance of hitting the target, bursting in the air hundreds of ters away.
Fortunately, these spellcasters were at the top of their ga; their control over the teor Burst was impeccable, preventing an awkward scenario where the explosion of a front teor Fireball would set off those behind.
All teor Fireballs maintained safe explosion distances from each other; even if one was prematurely detonated, the following one would either fly past after the forr’s shockwave or fly side-by-side, not even targeting the sa objective.
Twelve teor Bursts, forty-eight teor Fireballs, only twelve made it to the Demon Trees, less than a third, and these twelve dispersed across three Demon Trees could only inflict serious damage but not a deadly threat.
This was why the Legendary Spellcaster teams previously risked close-range spellcasting. The further the casting distance, the longer the spell’s airborne ti, increasing the possibility of interception and destruction.

The role of these Semi-Legendary Spellcaster squads was not to inflict significant damage on these Demon Trees but to identify their combat thods.
The shield of thorn tree spikes launched by the Demon Trees posed too great a threat to the city defense forces because their height far exceeded that of the walls, typical of an elevated position where parapets could hardly provide adequate protection.
