668: Chapter 491: Spending a Thousand Gold on a Horse’s Bone_1 668: Chapter 491: Spending a Thousand Gold on a Horse’s Bone_1 “Lord, you’ve arrived,” the chief engineer, the winged gnoll Chester, greeted Gaven in the rain.

“The security work is well done,” Gaven praised.

“The progress is faster than I expected.

Have the recent heavy rains delayed your construction?”

“A bit, but the impact is not significant.

When construction on the ground beca inconvenient, I directed all construction teams to move underground,” Chester said with so concern.

“However, I heard from the locals that this kind of heavy rain will last for over a month.

If that’s true, it will seriously delay the schedule and we won’t be able to build enough resettlent houses within the ti Lord requires.

Besides, our demand for Bitterleaf Oil has greatly increased; many gnolls are not quite adapted to the relatively warm and humid environnt here.”

“Ultimately, that is a problem, and I am here to completely resolve it for you.”

As they spoke, the two arrived at the very center of Weizemay New Village, the highest point, from which the slightly terraced new village could be seen below.

Without waiting for Chester to ask, Gaven took out a head-sized crystal ball from his convenience bag and attuned to it with his eyes closed.

An invisible wind circled around them like an invisible shield, completely blocking the rain outside.

Wisps of wind stretched out like invisible tendrils from the crystal ball, weaving into the surrounding air.

The pouring rain quickly changed to a steady moderate rainfall, then gradually to a continuous light rain, and finally to a drizzle until it stopped completely, leaving only a layer of clouds.

But in a few minutes, the clouds began to fade away, until they disappeared completely, revealing the bright sunshine.

The entire process took less than ten minutes.

Those who ca out of their houses at the news saw the miraculous scene.

Looking up, they felt as if they were inside a giant well, with dark clouds still surrounding them elsewhere and, presumably, the downpour continuing.

Only here.

Centered on Weizemay New Village, within a five-kiloter radius, there was the radiance of the blazing sun.

The clouds in the sky did not dissipate entirely cleanly, and with the downpour surrounding them, the temperature wasn’t very high, around 26 or 27 degrees Celsius—in fact, the most pleasant temperature for humans.

Gaven’s attunent was also nearing its end.

The crystal ball had left the palm of his hand and was floating in mid-air, slowly rotating, with occasional gusts of wind blowing from it.

Gaven said to the others who had co upon hearing the news: “This crystal ball is called the Favorable Wind Orb.

Its effect is very similar to the ‘Favorable Weather’ in the vineyards, but it doesn’t adjust the rain based on plant growth needs; it regulates according to human comfort, keeping this place in the most suitable state for people.

Chester, have soone build a stone fort here to encase it and station troops to guard it, to prevent it from being stolen.”

“As you command,” Chester bowed in obedience.

“Captain Kregi, are you adapting well to life here?” Gaven turned his gaze to the tough and dark-faced young Thacel.

Though called young, he was at least ten years Gaven’s senior, looking to be around thirty.

He was Kopofiel’s son and had stayed in Thacel Refugee Camp before, guarding the unharvested crops there.

Half a month ago, the harvest was successfully completed and all packaged up, sent back to the Three Rivers Region, putting a definitive end to that camp.

“Thank you for your concern, Lord.

Life here is much, much better than we could have imagined,” Kregi replied with a look of reverence towards Gaven, whose every intervention had completely shattered their preconceptions.

The sa was true previously in the refugee camp, and just now with the Favorable Wind Orb.

“With such weather, can we navigate Ashaba River?” Gaven inquired.

Without hesitation, Kregi answered: “Rain with no wind.

As long as each boat can staff thirty sailors, we can navigate unimpeded.”

“That’s good.

I have a new task for you.” Gaven took out a thick notebook and five heavy boxes of currency from the Portable Dinsional Hole, but this ti, not all were Gold Coins; three of the boxes contained silver and copper coins.

After handing the notebook to Kregi, he explained in detail: “Deliver the wages listed to the addresses written here, in full, door to door.

After delivery, ask them to leave receipts or letters of acknowledgnt.

If there are any undelivered, find out why—whether the information is false or sothing has happened to those people.”

“As you command, I guarantee to complete the task,” Kregi knelt on one knee, seriously receiving the notebook.

He understood instantly—this was paynt for the captured rcenaries.

He had previously regretted not being able to participate in that grand affair at the refugee camp, so having the opportunity to be involved even just at the end was not bad.

“At that ti, assign the rcenary nad Archer as your deputy to assist you with this task.

Select the rest of the personnel yourself,” Gaven instructed.

“Don’t be secretive about this matter; make sure it is done conspicuously.”

“Conspicuously?

How so?” Kregi did not imdiately grasp the true aning behind Gaven’s instruction.

“Let tell you the story of ‘spending a fortune on horse bones,'” Gaven did not directly answer Kregi’s question but instead told him a story.
