March 2018, London, Clock Tower.

Olga Marie Animusphere had just finished the full eting of the Departnt of Astromancy. Letting out a small, weary breath, she walked through the broad corridors of the Clock Tower.

Gray followed beside her as her escort.

"You've worked hard, Olga Marie." Gray said.

"I'm not the Director anymore." Olga Marie smiled. "Just call Marie, like Sensei does."

"Mm..." Gray still was not used to calling her that. "Will you be staying in London much longer?"

"There's no helping it. This concerns the future direction of the Departnt of Astromancy." Olga Marie said, "Even if the title of Lord is going to be handed over to the Wodi family, just getting the Animusphere side fully aligned has already taken a lot of effort."

"But Shiomi-sensei said before that this is the best possible ti, didn't he?" Gray said.

"That part is true." Olga Marie sighed again.

Three months earlier, the catastrophic incident of the Bleaching of the Earth had co to an end. The Chaldea Observatory in Antarctica had returned to the state it had been in before the attack by the Alien Apostles and the Crypters, and was now waiting for investigation teams from the Mage's Association, the Holy Church, and the United Nations to enter.

The Bleached Earth and the casualties of January 1, 2018, had all been reset to zero.

It was as if only the Incineration of Humanity had ever happened.

No one rembered any of it.

Except for everyone aboard Storm Border.

When they ca back to themselves after Singularity F vanished, they discovered that everything had already returned to its original course.

A different kind of [re-editing of human history].

History, once thrown into disorder, had been sorted out again. The evil consequences created by Chaldeas had been removed, while the truly important parts were left behind, reorganized, and preserved.

Kirschtaria and the others awoke from cryogenic suspension in their coffins as usual.

Chaldea received personnel from the Association and the Church and began undergoing a complicated inspection process.

But with El-lloi II's help, along with the support of the democratic faction, the problems Chaldea faced were not too severe.

The real issue ca when Olga Marie publicly revealed that she had lost her inherited Magic Crest. Once that beca known, the Departnt of Policies imdiately tried to strip Animusphere of its position among the Lords and place one of its own Magus Families in control instead.

And yet, right in the middle of all that chaos, when even Olga Marie herself was starting to feel overwheld, the Departnt of Policies... or rather, Bartholoi, the family that ruled over it... beca history overnight.

The highest-blooded family in the world of Magecraft was wiped out in a single night. Any Magus with even the slightest trace of Bartholoi blood died without exception.

The Departnt of Policies was thrown into leaderless panic. Even the Clock Tower Director, who normally kept deeply secluded, and the retired forr Wizard Marshal Zelretch, had to step in and take charge of the situation.

Rebuilding the Departnt of Policies beca the Clock Tower's highest priority. The inspection of Chaldea, the assessnt of Animusphere, and the future of the Departnt of Astromancy all beca secondary, allowing Olga Marie to deal with matters in a much more stable way.

It would still take ti, but the pressure was no longer as crushing as before.

"I heard from Miss Reines that even if the Departnt of Policies spent a hundred years on it, they still wouldn't recover," Gray said, bringing up sothing she had heard.

"It doesn't matter how many years it takes. It has nothing to do with us." Olga Marie said.

She knew that attitude was irresponsible, but right now she only wanted to get as far away from this ss as possible. She had no desire to keep dealing with this pile of nonsense.

There was no hard proof, but Olga Marie knew exactly what had happened to the prestigious Bartholoi family, annihilated in a single night.

Shiomi-sensei had returned to the Clock Tower and dealt with it personally.

The reason was simple.

To protect her.

When Olga Marie heard the news, she had been almost instantly certain of it, and yet she felt no fear.

Maybe that was just the kind of disposition bred into her by being raised as a Magus, she thought. Sothing that allowed her to face that result with colder composure.

But in the end, as the family that produced the current Wizard Marshal, Bartholoi would never have accepted a future in which Mystery had begun to accelerate toward decline and would disappear completely within a thousand years.

When that day ca, the disaster such an ancient Magus Family might unleash would likely rival anything the Animusphere family could ever cause.

In a way, it was also an act done for the sake of safeguarding human history, severing Magi who had strayed from the human path.

But no matter how she tried to explain it, Olga Marie knew those were only excuses to set her own mind at ease.

"...ga Marie... Olga Marie..."

Gray's voice pulled her back out of her thoughts.

"Sorry. I was thinking about sothing." Olga Marie said.

"Shiomi-sensei sent an email. He wants to know how things are going." Gray held up a phone she still was not very used to using.

"I've already explained pretty much everything that needed to be handed over to Kirschtaria," Olga Marie said, telling Gray how to reply. "I might co back later to help deal with smaller matters, but it shouldn't be long before the Clock Tower officially recognizes Kirschtaria as the new Lord of the Departnt of Astromancy."

As for the fact that Mystery would inevitably decline and vanish a thousand years from now, Kirschtaria had taken it even more calmly than expected.

"If that is the outco Sensei believes will benefit humanity more, then I choose to accept it calmly. That is the duty of the defeated."

That was what Kirschtaria had said at the ti.

The new Departnt of Astromancy would center around Lord Wodi, with Ophelia and Kadoc both entering the departnt to beco Kirschtaria's right and left hands.

Daybit would assist from the Departnt of Lore.

Peperoncino had set off on a journey as he always did, while Hinako Akuta had gone to so ancient land where no one could find her.

After all, that was a matter for a thousand years in the future.

No one knew how far the world would have advanced by then.

When Olga Marie and Gray stepped out of the Clock Tower building, they saw a group of Magi hurrying across the courtyard toward the building where a eting was being held.

Among them were Lords from various departnts of the Clock Tower.

Their voices rose and fell one after another. It sounded as though they were still arguing about all sorts of things even while rushing to get there.

"Ah, Sensei says his car is parked by the roadside." Gray happily told Olga Marie.

"That's great."

For so reason, Olga Marie suddenly felt the pressure that had been weighing on her shoulders lift all at once.

Her whole mood beca lighter too.

"Co to think of it, where are we going next?"

"Like we talked about before, to the orphanage outside the city." Gray thought for a mont. "The people brought back from the Scandinavian Lostbelt are all there now. We're supposed to have dinner together later."

"I see."

As they passed through the gate, Olga Marie spotted the car parked by the street.

She turned back and gave the Clock Tower building, so familiar it hardly needed saying, one last look.

"Get in already. If you keep standing around, we're going to get a parking ticket."

Shiomi, sitting in the passenger seat with the window rolled down, greeted them in an unusually cheerful voice.
