He reached out to lift her chin, making her look at him before he asked softly, "Why do you suddenly look sad?"

Viola shook her head, denying it. "I am not sad. You were talking on your mind link just now, weren’t you?" she asked, already realizing that his mont of silence had been him speaking through his mind link with soone. As it always happened with Alphas and Betas who shared a mind link, they could be talking aloud and then fall silent to listen to the voice speaking inside their heads. It was a pattern she recognized, and she imdiately noticed when he had stopped mid-sentence.

Sebastian gave her a nod. "I guess you will get your wish to send back to my duty after all," he told her, his tone gentle but edged with reluctant resignation.

Viola felt a sharp stab to her chest. She didn’t want him to leave, but she reminded herself that a pack always ca first, and that she wouldn’t dare stop him by wanting him to stay. Not that she would ever admit to him or herself that she wished he would stay.

"You should have gone before they called you when I told you to leave. I will get your coat and shoes," she said, quickly rising from the floor and hurrying to her bedroom to grab his things. She wanted to keep her disappointnt hidden, ensuring he wouldn’t see how much losing his company affected her.

Even if they hadn’t called him, she would have found a way to send him to his duty anyway, as that was what a good Luna was supposed to do, Viola told herself. And as his future Luna, she needed to start practicing that responsibility, even if it hurt her when it shouldn’t even affect her in the first place. Since when did his company beco bearable to her? She thought with a deep displeased frown.

Viola returned with his coat and shoes and found him standing at the edge of the stair railing, looking up at her with his phone in hand. She carefully ca down and handed him his things, and Sebastian took them with a soft, muttered thank you, his eyes briefly eting hers with a flicker of appreciation.

She watched him put on his shirt and drape his coat over his arm before slipping his feet into his shoes. Then he reached out and took her hand. "Walk to the door," he said, beginning to pull her along before she could protest.

Viola silently followed him, a tight knot forming in her throat for reasons she didn’t understand, a mixture of longing and confusion pressing against her. Just where the hell was this feeling coming from?

When they reached the door, Sebastian looked down at her, lifting her chin again before leaning down to press his lips gently to her cheek. "I will co by tonight, and we can talk about the doctor who will work on your eyes so you won’t need glasses anymore. Don’t look so sad," he teased, his tone soft and coaxing.

Viola glared at him, forcing herself to hide and deny the fact that she liked his company more than she wanted to admit.

"I am not sad. Get on your way, and you don’t need to co over tonight. It’s not appropriate for you to always co here before the ceremony," she said, opening the door for him while attempting to hide the faint blush creeping across her cheeks.

Sebastian only laughed, already knowing she was too stubborn to accept that she enjoyed his company. He wondered quietly if there would ever co a ti when she could be fully open with him about her feelings, without stubbornly concealing what she truly felt.

Sebastian paused at the door, pinching her cheek lightly. "You can’t convince not to co. I will see you later. And don’t skip your als, or I will force you to eat double of it tonight." He patted her head gently, then withdrew his hand before she could swat at it, glaring at him in annoyance.

"What a little stubborn kitten," he said, deliberately getting on her nerves, enjoying it far more than seeing the sad, resigned expression on her face at the thought of him leaving. He knew she was lonely and probably bored now that she was alone in this part of the building.

"I am not a kitten," Viola countered.

"But you act like one, a very adorable one I would like to pet and keep around. Take care of yourself, little kitten," he said, waving at her playfully. She rolled her eyes, standing in the doorway with her hand on the fra, head peeking out, and replied, "If I am a kitten, you are a very annoying fly that buzzes around, and I want to swat you away every ti."

"Do you know you are the only one who gets away with insulting , honey?" Sebastian said, laughing as he walked backward down the hallway toward the elevator, watching her head peeking out of the door and one of her feet resting just outside the threshold.

"It goes the sa for . I don’t let people call nas; I could break a few teeth, but you get away with it ti and again, Sebastian. One of these days, I do believe you will receive my punches," she warned, her voice half teasing, half exasperated.

Sebastian let out another chuckle. "Well, I do believe I already received your punch."

Viola frowned in confusion, not rembering punching him even though she had been tempted many tis when he had annoyed her. As if reading her thoughts, Sebastian said, "You punched on the lips with what you considered a kiss."

Viola flushed, her cheeks turning a deep shade of pink all the way to her ears. She found herself speechless, unable to find words to respond, and could only glare at him, opening and closing her mouth.

Sebastian left, smiling to himself, but the mont he stepped into the elevator at the end of the hallway, Viola’s glare softened into a small, quiet smile. She quickly shook it away, lightly slapping her own cheek to wake herself up to reality and stop getting giddy at the thought that he would co over tonight again.

"Annoying idiot," she muttered, still smiling.
