"The gorgeous one-diamond necklace is estimated at $550 million. Designed by multinational jewelry company Arise, the central diamond is 8,407 carats in weight, and it shines bright because of its top-quality color, clarity, and cut," Ruby read off the internet.
We’d been staring at the necklace for the past 10 minutes, unable to co out of shock.
How could he choose to spend this amount on jewelry? It doesn’t make sense. Well, what am I saying? He has the money; I shouldn’t judge him for this.
"Can I wear it just once?" Ruby looked at . "Please?" She pouted. "Pretty please?" She cutely blinked her eyes.
"Why are you asking? You can wear it for as long as you want; it’s not really my thing, you know that." I stood up and walked to the mirror.
"Thank you." She put the necklace on and began taking pictures.
After taking the pictures, she removed the necklace. "Where should I put it?"
"In my jewelry box."
"When are you planning on using it?"
"Using it?"
"Don’t you plan on wearing it?"
"Hmm, maybe if there’s an event, I can wear it, but not now."
"No," she ca over to , "wear it. I’m sure he got it for you with good intentions." She ca behind and fastened it around my neck.
"Just for today."
"Alright."
"I’m going to the gym; Bryce wants to undergo training. Will you co with ?"
"Yes. What sort of training?"
"I’m not exactly sure. I don’t care; I don’t want this training," I grumbled.
We left my room and went straight to the gym.
"He wants to exercise with the 5 kg slam ball. I’ll keep practicing until I’m good." I walked to the slam ball and repeated what Bryce had taught .
A few minutes into my training, Nanny Samantha ca in with freshly baked cookies.
"Hi, I made these; do you mind?" she asked us.
"Yes," Ruby approached her, took a bite of the cookies, and moaned.
"Hmm, it tastes great; I love it." She took more from Nanny Samantha’s plate.
"What about you, my dear?" Nanny Samantha looked at .
"Did you bake them yourself?" I asked.
"Yes, I did, just now."
I dropped the slam ball and walked over to her. "I’ll just have a bite; I’m very full."
"Oh, I appreciate it."
I took a bite and nodded. "Do you own a bakery? Why is it so good?" I teased her, and she smiled.
"I don’t own a bakery."
"It tastes great; thank you for this."
"Alright, I’ll give the rest to the others."
"Thank you for the cookies," Ruby said as she left the room.
"She reminds of your forr nanny," Ruby said.
"You’re right; they have the sa personality."
"I hope they can hire another driver like the forr one."
"Jack?"
"Yes, Jack. Jack was a wonderful person. I’m not happy he got fired."
" too. I wish they could rehire him; he did nothing wrong," I pouted.
She sighed and lay on the floor. "What did the brothers do to the old driver? Did they let him go?"
"I doubt it; I’m sure he was handed over to the cops. Trust the brothers on that; they don’t allow—" I was speaking, but Ruby suddenly interrupted .
"Wait! Cole! What about Cole?" she yelled.
Damn! She’s right.
I dropped the slam ball and rushed to her. I squatted beside her and placed a finger over her lips.
"Shh."
"What?" she mouthed.
"You’re not allowed to say his na."
"Why?"
"I was planning on telling you about it."
"What happened?"
"Cole has been released, but I’m not allowed to contact or speak of him again."
"Why? What happened?"
"Sothing happened, but I’ll explain it to you later; I need you to do sothing for ."
"What is it?"
"It’s urgent. Can you check up on Cole? See if he got ho?"
"Okay?"
"Yes, I need to be sure that he’s okay. But you don’t need to tell his whereabouts; I don’t need to know. Just check on him, okay?"
"I will do that; he is also my friend. But what really happened? Were you banned from speaking to him?"
"I was," I sighed and sat down beside her. I explained the warehouse incident to her and the promise I made to Parker. I also revealed the cruel words I said to Cole.
"I’m sure Cole will understand; he is sensible, and he won’t hate you."
"I went too far; calling him an orphan was too much."
"You didn’t have a choice. Were you beating yourself up for it?"
"Yes," I nodded.
"You don’t have to. He will understand why you did what you did."
"What did she do? Who are you talking about?" Bryce suddenly walked into the gym; his presence sent goosebumps down my spine, and Ruby and I jumped to our feet at the sa ti.
"You were slacking off. Again," he groaned, stopping before us.
"I was... training a minute ago," I whispered.
"So you stopped training because you wanted to gossip?" He frowned, but I kept my gaze down and refused to say a word.
He turned his attention to Ruby. "You were the one who told her to investigate my whereabouts, weren’t you?" he asked.
"What... What?" Ruby shifted from one foot to the other; she remained silent.
"You’re influencing her badly; you’re not a good friend to her."
"I... Yes. I am."
"You are?"
"Then why are you making her suspicious of ? Do you think I was cheating on her with my aunt?"
"I... No, I wasn’t aware she was your aunt; forgive ," she replied.
"Ruby didn’t do anything; I did it by myself," I said imdiately. Ruby made a mistake by admitting to it. Why did she admit it? She should have kept quiet.
Bryce turned his attention back to . "I don’t plan on punishing her; you don’t have to cover up her cris."
Cris? Why is he using such a heavy word?
"Let’s return to training. Show what you’ve learned so far."
"I can lift the slam ball properly now," I said, rushing to the ball.
"Show ," he ordered, and I did as he asked. After watching , he walked to the corner and picked up another slam ball, dropping it before .
"Lift it," he instructed.
"I... I should lift it?" I blinked, confused.
"Yes. Lift it."
"But... But... It’s 15 kg. How do you... How do you expect to do that?" Does he want to kill ? I think he does. He plans to kill .
