Leilani.
I hate to say this but I didn’t return to the restaurant. I didn’t go back for Maya because for so reason, the longer I stayed away from the restaurant, the stronger my resolution to not be in any form of close relationship with Gavin beca.
About forty-five minutes after I left, Maya texted to say she was taking an Uber ho, but I didn’t believe her. I also didn’t try to push it, so I went back ho and buried myself in my work.
About two hours into my job with rest, I finally got a call from an unsaved number. Cautiously, I picked it up, brought the phone to my ear and waited.
The first ti this happened, it turned out to be my mother on the phone, and right now, I wasn’t ready for new surprises.
"Leilani?" A familiar feminine voice called out softly, sounding almost like they were whispering, and as soon as I heard it, I stilled. My hand clutching my phone froze, and for so reason, my heart began to frantically beat against my chest.
I drawled; "Agnes, I told you not to call until you find sothing important—"
"But I did find sothing important!" She snapped quickly, catching my already spiked curiosity. She sighed. "I just found out that the caras around your father’s house haven’t been changed or repaired in years. And it’s probably never been checked before." She said, and as soon as I heard that, my heart leaped into my throat.
I nearly set the phone down due to excitent, but after managing to school my emotions in check, I rasped; "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I asked Bill." She answered with sass. "He’s the head security guard... and don’t ask why I was able to get him to talk. You don’t need to know that we tumble around sheets sotis."
"Ewww!" I gasped, shrinking my nose. "TMI!"
"I’m so sorry!" She cried, "...I guess I just wanted to let you know I didn’t go sniffing the wrong stuff in the wrong way. That I didn’t ask anyone I wasn’t supposed to... I’ve been pretty discreet about it all too."
I rolled my eyes at her words, but after realising that she obviously couldn’t see , I fixed my face and drawled; "Thank you... and please; Keep being discreet."
"Sure."
"Now, what you’ll do for is easy." I said softly, calmly. Like soone trying to lure a baby to sleep. "How close are you to Bill?"
"We’re pretty close. We’ve seen each other’s nakedness."
My face coloured. "Besides fucking each other, how close are you both?"
"Close enough to know that he has mommy issues, and that he likes it when I tickle his balls."
Now, I was more disgusted than curious. My face scrunched up into a deep frown— one that I fixed by closing my eyes and counting from one to ten— before I peeled my eyes open and pinched the bridge of my nose.
I sighed. "Please I want sothing more significant, Agnes. If you ask him to do sothing for you, will he?"
"Oh, of course he would! He’s been hit by Ms Chalice several tis for standing up for ,"
I gasped, my mouth forming an O-shape before a sure small smile spread across my lips. "Then tell him that you need to get your hands on the hard drive... and Agnes?"
"Ma’am?"
"Never ntion my na."
"Oh, I don’t even know your na anymore, Kristi!" She sassed. "I’m sure it was Kristi, but now I don’t know if it is Amy or Clara!" She said, chuckling.
It was nice to see that she still had her humour intact, but due to how severe this situation was, I couldn’t bring myself to laugh.
"Also ma’am," she cut in carefully, her voice dropping a few notches and from how I could clearly hear her sudden pants, I knew she was about to ask sothing. Sothing I may find uncomfortable.
So I braced myself. I asked; "What?"
"Why do you need it?"
"Huh?"
"Why do you need the hard drive of the CCTV caras in your father’s house?"
Her question made go silent for a few seconds. And usually, even though I’d expected that at so point she would ask that, hearing her say it now made more than a little uncomfortable.
I shrugged. "That’s for to know and for you not to," I said softly. "So just get the damn hard drive, okay?"
"Okay..." she murmured quietly. "...it may be difficult to do that seamlessly but I’ll try. And I’ll talk to Bill today."
After giving her a few more instructions, I ended the call and dropped my phone, my heart racing at the thought of what was to happen.
And girlll, I couldn’t wait.
I couldn’t wait to have my hands on that footage.
It was the final touch of evidence I needed before going toe to toe with Chalice at the law court. It was exactly what I needed to ensure that she crashes and burns.
And I’d make sure of that.
—
Chalice.
I clutched my phone and purse tightly in my pale hands as I walked through the fancy hotel lobby. When I arrived at the reception, a pretty blonde girl smiled at , her face dazzling as she asked;
"Hello Mada, what can we do for you today?"
Her sweet voice grated against my ear, and maybe it was due to the color of her hair, but she vaguely reminded of Leilani.
I frowned. "I’m here to see Mr Louis Hawthorne. What’s his room number please?"
"Is Mr Hawthorne expecting you?" She asked, and for a brief mont, my mind wandered to the sexy pink lingerie I had underneath all the layers of my clothing.
I nodded. "Yes, we have an appointnt."
She smiled at then, and I watched silently as she clicked on a few buttons in her computer. To be sure, she called his room to ask if he was expecting any—
Then she turned to . "What’s your na ma’am?"
"Chalice Blackthorne." I answered coldly.
She smiled again and returned to the call after repeating my na into the speaker. A few seconds later, she dropped the phone, smiled one last ti at and drawled; " Room 1205."
But I didn’t return her smile. I nodded instead and turned away from her to head into an elevator, but as I went, I couldn’t help but feel the eyes of soone drilling holes into my back.
I turned around quickly, glanced around the lobby but found no one, so I continued into the elevator where I applied my lipstick one more ti to my lips with trembling hands and pressed the button that’ll take to the twelfth floor.
My heart raced with anticipation while it began its ascent because truthfully, I didn’t know why Louis wanted us to et all of a sudden. And even though I had a vague idea of what he wanted: my body, besides that, I didn’t know what else he wanted to talk about.
—But I hoped to the moon goddess that he wasn’t here to finally claim as his mate because God help , I’d rather die than acknowledge our mate bond.
Especially now that I was this close to achieving my dreams.
