Jarek.

When Keisha said those words to Leilani on the day we finalized our rejection process, I didn’t count it as anything. I had just brushed it off as words of a bitter woman, but then, afterwards, after she left my office and told in her words that; "We’ll be seeing each other soon because of my new freak," I couldn’t help but think about it.

From that day, I began to pay closer attention to Leilani and her mannerisms, but nothing seed off. I then began to think back to all the monts in the past that she’d acted out of line.

The tis she’d manifested weird traits that didn’t feel normal— like tearing down my car’s door, picking up heavy objects effortlessly. Hell, even though she never told what happened that day at her house, I suspected that her weird surges of strength had everything to do with the reason her fridge had been on the floor even though she’d told Maya and I that it had simply fallen.

I sighed.

Is she a silver wolf or a Lycan? Or sothing else entirely? Sothing dangerous and unheard of?

My hands trembled slightly as I thought about it but deciding not to scare her just yet, I brushed my finger over her cheek and asked; "Is there anything else you’ve noticed? Anything at all that must’ve co off as strange to you?"

At that, she went quiet. She seed to ponder over the question for a while before she finally shook her head and answered; "Besides always being tired? Nothing!"

Her tone was light and I couldn’t help but smile at her cuteness. It was funny that to everyone, she always appeared as the cold aloof young woman whose eyes were so cold, they could literally turn a person to stone, but to , she was sweet. She was soft... and even behaved almost child-like.

I nodded. "Okay then, I’ll ask a few experts about it and get back to you. But if you’re in a haste to know what’s going on with your body, we could simply tell the lab to run so tests on—"

"No." She snapped almost too quickly, her eyes lowering as she whispered; "Not the tests. I don’t want it."

"Why?"

"Because I don’t want it and it wouldn’t be the first ti." She answered coldly.

My eyes widened slightly when I heard her say those words and I didn’t know why, but I felt like there was a lot more story to that than what she was willing to say.

Goddess, I was curious but I didn’t want to push her for answers, so I said the only thing I could think of. I whispered; "Do you want to talk about it?"

She shook her head at first, but a few seconds into it, she suddenly changed her mind and nodded.

You see what I say about her being almost child-like?

I smiled despite myself and held her hands, using it to pull her forward as I helped her into a chair. When she was seated comfortably, I leaned against my table and crossed my arms over my chest.

But I didn’t say anything; I simply waited for her to get herself together.

A mont of silence passed between us before she mustered the courage to speak, and when she finally did, she sounded hurt, lost.. she sounded like a drowning child... like soone in dire need of help.

—And I would offer that, even if it was the last thing I did.

"My mother used to sneak to the hospital when I was around ten years old or so. It was since then that I began to understand that I was different from everyone else. We would usually spend several hours at the hospital and she would watch while the doctors probed from every angle as if looking for sothing. I never knew what it was that they were looking for, only that the procedures were extrely painful... so painful that I could hardly walk after each one."

"Oh, my god!"

"And when I turned fifteen, dad would follow us sotis to the hospital and the usual would happen. This continued for a very long ti even until I turned nineteen. The last ti I went with them to the hospital was a couple of weeks before I ran off with you..." she explained, her voice breaking as she quietly began to sob.

But I was too stunned to speak or move.

Fuck, I couldn’t even bring myself to console her.

My heart was racing frantically in my chest and my once shaky hands now shook even more, not with panic or fear but with rage.

Because I knew what this ant...

I always knew... always suspected it. But the first ti I ever ntioned it to her, she had shrugged off because she’d been too traumatized to see the truth.

She didn’t even want to know the truth at the ti!

My hands cupped her face gently and she flinched for a nanosecond before she finally relaxed— I didn’t feel bad about it, if anything, I understood it.

Because even I, Alpha or not... semi feral or not would also be traumatized if there were suspicions that my wolf had intentionally been suppressed by drugs and whatnot... if I had been made to undergo the painful dical procedures and forced to live with the aftermath.

And that exactly was Leilani’s case.

Her innocent purple eyes t mine, and in that mont, I couldn’t hide my suspicions from her anymore, I said slowly;

"I think your wolf was suppressed by your parents. Hence, the reason you never shifted even when your twin did."

Truth be told, I had half expected her to argue. I had expected her to quickly jump into defending her parents like she did the last ti I ntioned this to her, but I guess she must’ve changed a lot these past few weeks because she simply looked away, her voice cold and detached as she whispered; "Why would they even do sothing like that?"

It wasn’t a question, it was her thoughts.

I frowned. "Do you think they tampered with your wolf too?"

"I do." She answered coldly. Quickly. "I do because it’s all too coincidental. First, I never got to find out what those ’treatnts’ were. Then after I left ho with you, a few days later, I shifted for the first ti."

"That one ti that almost killed you?" I asked quietly and she nodded.

"Jay, it’s all too coincidental... I think it’s beginning to make sense. However, what I do not understand is why! Why they hate so much that they’ll do sothing like that to ! Why they would go to those lengths to keep my wolf hidden... and why they joined everyone else who called a runt. They even used the words on more than anyone else... when they knew the truth."

"Leilani..." I cried, pulling her into another hug when tears stead down her face.

This ti however, she didn’t hug back. She didn’t lean close to like she always did or snuggled into my arms;

And I knew that she was mad... and that the wheels in her head were already beginning to spin.

First, she had gone for her twin sister, Chalice. Then she had gone for the triplets, and even though she swears that she’s not done with them yet, she had dealt them a hard blow.

And now, I knew that the next people on her radar were her parents; And I know that you may all call an evil friend but I couldn’t wait to see what she would do to them, or how far she would go to find out the truth.

Fortunately, she had to help her out with whatever she wanted, and I had all the resources in the world to help her with.

It was a win-win situation.

—I help her with getting back at her family, and her presence helps to calm my wolf.

I sighed softly and planted my lips on her forehead, kissing it gently. But just as I tried to pull away, she held back and slamd her lips against mine.

Did I ever tell you guys that her lips were always on fire? Well, I just did.

My hands fisted into her hair as I kissed her back fervently. I took all she had to offer and gave all I had to give.

The kiss was fiery and hot and it was the very first ti she would ever devour with as much passion as I did her.

And I let her... because I loved her.

Wait, what?

Love?

Oh, no sweet moon goddess in the sky! How complicated can my life be?
