Leilani.

I was at work that morning when I got a sudden call from an unsaved number, and at first, I didn’t want to pick it... for,you know, obvious reasons, but when my phone kept ringing over and over again, without pause, I picked it up, slapped it against my ear and remained silent, listening only to the sound of the other person’s quiet breathing.

A second passed... ten passed.

And geez, I was fast growing impatient. However, just as I was about to put it down, a hoarse voice suddenly called out; "Leilani?"

I froze.

No shit, it’s Mrs Blackthorne!

The rage I’d been bottling up spilled over when I heard her voice.

Ladies and gentlen, do you know what was even more infuriating?

When she talked in a self-righteous tone. She said; "Your father and I received a letter from the court around midday yesterday. Do you have anything to do with it?"

I closed my eyes briefly to calm the storm which was my mind, because at the mont, all I felt was anger. A wave of weird sensations ran up my spine and before I could make sense of what was happening to , my fingers elongated and retracted, followed by the strange sounds of bones breaking which filled the room, before I sighed and whispered; "I do."

"Why?" She cried like I had hurt her by wanting sothing better for myself; and goddess, it wasn’t until this mont that I realized sothing that I’d probably never thought of before:

And that is the fact that she had been there when I exposed Chalice’s cris... She had seen proof too... along with her husband, but even until now, they never for once thought about apologizing for anything.

Not for wrongfully accusing or for hurting .

That thought ca with a fresh wave of anger, coupled with the fact that I now knew that they were probably the reason behind my wolflessness for so long. I smiled darkly and asked; "Did you just ask why, Mrs Blackthorne?"

"I am your mother, stop calling that!"

"And I am an adult, and I have the right to call you whatever I wish to. Moreover, you’re not my mother. You have never been my mother for as long as I can rember, and you lack what it takes to be anyone’s mom—"

"Leilani, stop!" She yelled, sobbing.

I rolled my eyes one more ti because if this was her pathetic little way of trying to guilt trip into bending, then she doesn’t know what she has coming.

I continued; "Now, I’ll say this once, and I hope that you understand: Yes, the court summon ca from . Yes, I am the one suing you and your husband. I am suing your husband for mistreatnt, battery, emotional and physical abuse... and I am suing you for negligence."

She gasped, her quiet sobs filling my ears before she finally said; "We raised you better than this!"

For a mont, I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t bring myself to respond to that hypocritical statent. I slowly pushed the phone away from my ear and stared at the screen as if I’d just seen—or heard— the vilest words on planet earth.

It took a mont to finally calm the raging anger flooding through my veins and I spat; "You forget that you never raised ."

"You’re such an ingrate!" She screeched. Now, her voice had lowered into sothing dark and nacing. It felt as though she was finally taking off the mask she’d put on for so long.

I shrugged carelessly, because truth be told, I have finally gotten to the point where I didn’t care one bit about what she thinks about anymore.

My voice was cold— colder than the freezer she’d locked in seven years ago when Chalice lied that I had bullied her in front of other kids— as I spat; "And you’re a hypocrite, Mrs Blackthorne."

She gasped.

"A few days ago, it ca to light that I had been wrongfully accused of most of the things that you punished for years back, and yet, you felt no remorse... you weren’t even regretful. You and your husband acted like you didn’t hear shit—"

"And why would we be remorseful when you had to ruin your sister’s wedding just to prove a point?!" She yelled, and as soon as I heard those words, I knew then and there that she had finally gone mad.

That I couldn’t listen to whatever garbage she had left to spew.

I also realized that she was no different from Chalice. In fact, they were peas of the sa pod.

I nodded. But then realizing that she couldn’t see , I hissed slowly; "I think that’s all for now. And in case you never realized, I’ve been recording this call from the mont I realized that it was you. And this right here, will serve as more evidence against you in court. Have a great day!"

"Leilani!" She yelled, "...my daughter!"

But before she could say sothing else— sothing that I was sure would push into driving to her house just to pull out her hair— I took the phone away from my ear and switched it off.

I lifted my head just then to see Jarek leaning against my door with a cup of hot chocolate in his hand. He placed the cup of sugary goodness onto my table and muttered;

"I think you handled that just fine."

"Yeah, right!" I grimaced. "Did you hear what the old lady had to say? She wasn’t regretful that I’d been mistreated all my life but she’s mad that I ruined Chalice’s perfect wedding?"

"She’s not worth it."

"Yeah, she isn’t!" I snorted, picking up the cup of hot chocolate, and as soon as I took a sip, I felt so of my anger dissipate slowly, replaced instead with a strange warmth that only Jarek could bring.

I sighed. "She isn’t worth it... but I’ll make sure that she isn’t worth shit by the ti I’m done with her."

"I trust that you’ll do that." Jay replied softly, coming to pat my hair gently.

His eyes glead with excitent and I could feel that there was sothing he wanted to tell even though he hadn’t said a word of it yet.

I tipped my head back to et his gaze and cocked my eyebrow when I saw the small smile playing on his lips. I asked curiously; "What is it?"

But he simply shrugged, his smile widening as he asked; "Do you still intend to ruin Chalice?"

I frowned. "I don’t want to ruin ruin her. I just want to give her a taste of her own dicine."

At my words, he plopped into the chair in front of , crossed his arms over his chest and said in a juicy gossipy voice; "Then you should know that she has a mate."

My jaw dropped. "Really?"

"Yeah, really!" He answered, smiling. "He’s a complete nace by the way and just yesterday, after finding out about him for the first ti, I overheard him talking about how ’Candy’ wants to bury all that they shared under the rug. How she intends to move to stardom... and how he plans to make the best out of it."

I froze. "He knows she’s called candy?"

"Yes, he does. And with the way he spoke to whoever it was over the phone... I think he’s still in touch with her, so much that the baby she’s carrying might actually be his and not the triplets’."

And dear heavens, as soon as I heard that, I spat out my chocolate. My eyes widened in shock and I burst out laughing when Jay soon began to laugh.

Goddess! This is interesting!
