Zevran.
"I didn’t do anything to Leilani! I have no idea what you’re talking about. Gosh why do you even care about her so much? And why would you even think that I did anything to her?!"
Those were the last words Chalice said to before I stumbled out of the house in a dizzying haste.
My body trembled with barely concealed fear, and with my hands shaking so badly, I could barely control it, I snatched Chalice’s phone from the table, searched up Zevran’s contact on Google and called the first one I could find.
I was directed to his PA, a girl nad Yvette sothing.
My anger peaked when her sugary chanical voice seeped through the speaker. Sounding nasal, she drawled; "Hello, I am Yvette—" and goddess, I couldn’t hear what she said afterwards.
I was too lost in my thoughts. Too scared of what Leilani must be going through at the mont, and extrely mad that I couldn’t get through to Frostclaw himself that I had montarily gone deaf.
"Are you there sir? Sir?!"
"I’d like to speak with Alpha Jarek Frostclaw." I hissed through gritted teeth, and at this point, my trembling was skyrocketing. I could barely hold the phone anymore, standing felt like an even bigger chore... and my vision, my vision was waning quickly, being blinded by my barely concealed rage and confusion.
When her nasal voice ca again through the phone, I lost it. She asked; "Oh, he’s in a very important eting, but do you have an appointnt with him?"
"Tell him that Leilani is missing." I spat, and with that, dropped the phone without waiting for her respond and imdiately mindlinked my brothers to tell them of the current situation.
My heart raced as I leaned against my car, shivering due to fear and confusion. Hades, I was confused because I had no idea where I could go from here. I had no idea who to reach out to... how to help her.
If only I could mind link her as well.
Wait, can I?
I closed my eyes briefly, exhaling as I tried hard and failed countless tis to reach her. But I wasn’t giving up. I couldn’t. Not when she was probably in danger... not when.
’Stop and do it!’ Morwen snapped impatiently in my head and I instantly focused.
At the last trial, I thought of her hard and for a long mont... I imagined her silky silver hair; they looked so soft but I’ve never touched them before...
I imagined her electric purple eyes; the way she would always frown at ... Her face. Her scent...
Goddess, I feared that it was impossible to mindlink her— I an, she doesn’t have a wolf, but recently, she’s been swearing to have one. And if she does, this should work, right?
RIGHT?
"LEILANI!"
"How are you in my head?" Her voice, weak but firm, echoed in my head and for the first few seconds, I feared that I was hallucinating. That she wasn’t the one, so I tried again;
"Where are you?"
I heard soone heave a loud sigh—but it wasn’t , and I was the only one here— so I waited for a second then ten before her soft voice echoed again in my head. She answered coldly;
"I don’t know where I am but I can describe everything I can see and the person who’s held hostage."
It took a brief mont to finally convince myself that I wasn’t imagining this and a sigh of relief slipped through my lips just as my once heavy chest started to feel light.
I murmured; "Go on," and went mute as I listened to her explain everything she could in detail. She finished up by describing a girl I’ve never heard of in my entire life, whom she said was behind this.
But I didn’t care one bit about the girl.
Hell, I wasn’t this flustered because of so wench who had gone after sothing— soone— that was mine.
My knees wobbled, maybe from relief or desperation, as I surged forward and as I rushed back into my car, I mindlinked my brothers again, informing them of Leilani’s current situation.
Caelum was the first to respond. He sounded out of breath as he drawled; "I’m on my way."
And with that, the mind link went dead, just as my wolf began pacing around my skull, seeking escape.
"Not yet, Morwen..." I chanted. "Definitely not now."
—
Leilani.
Just as Zevran barged into the room, another person rushed in behind him and my breath caught when I saw Kael panting like he’d just run a marathon.
His shaky hands were bloody and fisted, and there was a deep gash just underneath his chin.
Caelum ran in shortly afterwards, looking way worse than his brothers. And for a minute, I feared that this may be a dream—a nightmare perhaps, because tell why all my enemies were jam packed together in a room all at once?
My vision waned one more ti, but forcing myself to stay awake, I gritted out; "Keisha, let go."
"Did you call them over?" She spat darkly, "God, I always knew that you were weak, but I never knew the extent to which you—"
"Then untie if you really think I am weak!" I spat back, almost smiling when her face darkened.
She never stopped pointing the gun to my head, and any ti the triplets did as much as breathed in the wrong direction, she would aim it higher until they’d be forced to take steps back.
Caelum’s eyes t mine briefly and sothing akin to panic flashed across them before he raised his hands above his head and said softly; "Hey, can you drop the gun please? We can talk about what you want. You don’t have to hurt her... she doesn’t even feel so good at the mont!"
And truth be told, when I heard him say that, I blanched. I an—
Wait, what the fuck?
Is this Caelum? CAELUM? The sa man who’d done even way worse than what Keisha’s done to ?
Keisha turned to him briefly and snorted, her eyes flashing with malice as she spat; "I have nothing to say or do with any of you. So leave now or I’ll shoot her!"
"Hey, you can’t—"
"LEAVE!" She yelled, causing the veins at the sides of her neck to pop against her flesh.
To my utmost surprise, Kael nodded quickly. He drawled; "Okay, okay... we’ll leave!" And with that, he turned away, causing my eyes to widen in shock.
I realized then and there that it was foolish of to think that they could ever save . That I had thought they were here to help.
My heart plumted as I watched the three of them turn around and begin to walk out of the room; And when they did, Keisha turned to with a sly grin. She sneered; "That was quite easy, wasn’t it? I guess they never even liked you to begin—"
Bang!
A startled scream left my lips when suddenly Caelum spun around and struck her so hard in the face that she crashed to the floor face first.
He didn’t even stop to check the extent of damage to which he’d caused her. He didn’t waste a second and began to ransack through her pockets, making wonder what he was looking for.
However, I soon got my answer when a few seconds later, he brought out a key, tossed it to Kael and snapped; "Check if this unlocks those chains!"
I gasped.
Kael, on the other hand, imdiately slipped behind and began to unclasp the chains around my hands.
He hissed in pain when the silver burned his fingertips; But that didn’t stop him. If anything, it spurred him on.
I held my breath, my eyes never leaving Keisha’s unmoving form as Kael helped out of the chains, and as soon as he helped rise to my feet, my knees buckled, my vision blurred again and I stumbled.
Thankfully, before I could fall like a mini version of Keisha, Zevran wrapped his arms around my body, picking up bridal style and began to walk out of the room.
However, they hadn’t even taken more than three steps when a loud sound suddenly reverberated through the room.
It was deafening and loud, montarily snapping out of my spell.
My eyes widened when we quickly turned around to face Keisha, and to my utmost surprise, for soone who had been knocked out cold only monts ago, she was standing with the gun in her hands.
But it wasn’t her ugly sneer that had my attention.
It was the man standing before . The man who had jumped behind and Zevran at the last minute.
The man who now had a bright red stain spreading under his chest.
His face twisted into a painful frown as he fell to his knees, groaning in pain. My mouth instantly went dry, and goddess, I didn’t know when I jumped out of Zevran’s arms to rush to his side.
"Leilani..." he rasped, clutching his bleeding chest, "I’m so sorry. I’m so so sorry."
"Caelum, please. Caelum wait! Don’t you dare close your eyes!" I scread in his face, clutching desperately at his face even as he crumpled to the floor.
"Can you forgive now?" He cried softly, and when I wouldn’t respond, he added; "You know you can still punch in the face right? You can still take a few more teeth from my mouth... I’d be happy to donate them. Just say you forgive ."
"I’ll forgive you when you get better!" I yelled as tears stread down my face, but this ti, he didn’t respond.
His hands simply lingered on my cheeks, painting them with his blood before they fell limply to his sides.
My chest suddenly felt tight. My body trembled violently and a scream tore out from the back of my throat as I tried and failed to shake him awake.
Caelum wasn’t moving. He wasn’t breathing.
And at the mont, that was all I cared about.
I didn’t care that Kael and Zevran had finally managed to knock Keisha out for the second ti. I didn’t care that she was tied now to the chair with the sa silver chains she’d tied with.
All I cared about was inflicting her with as much pain as she did to and I didn’t realize how mad I was until I heard the sounds of my bones cracking, just as panicked screams filled the air;
"Leilani! No no!"
"NO!"
"DO NOT LET HER SHIFT!"
