Leilani.
As Darius continued to lead away, my heart raced so much, I feared I would die from shock. Or maybe hypertension or from hyperventilating!
One of those.
But for so strange reason, I didn’t die.
Instead, I continued to pant like a dog in a race as I tried desperately to fight against whatever he was doing to ... but I kept failing and trying... and failing again.
"Stop, Leilani! Do you have a kink for pain?" His voice snapped into my head, pulling out of the dreary thoughts I was having and I frowned when I noticed the weary look on his face.
He suddenly stopped walking and ca to stand beside , and before I could question him to know what he was trying to do, he leaned close and wiped at sothing under my nose, his forehead creasing into a frown as he whispered under his breath;
"Stop fighting it, Lani. Now, you’re having a nosebleed."
’But this is all your fault!’ I tried to snap back, only to realize that I still couldn’t speak. That my tongue still felt swollen! Goddess, only the heavens know how I am still standing!
Before I could complain, he picked up bridal style and continued to walk the rest of the way. And for unknown reasons, as soon as he picked up, my eyelids began to feel heavy. My heart which has been racing the entire ti stopped racing and went back to its usual pace.
My body felt a s light as a feather and...
And...
By the ti I snapped my eyes open again and lifted sky head to et his gaze, I realized to my absolute confusion that we were now standing in the middle of a half-empty warehouse.
Wait, for how long have we been walking?
How did we even get here?
When did he drop ?
Goddess how am I standing again?
My eyes darted from the bag of pastries in his hands to his face and my breath hitched when he spoke. He said;
"Only for a few minutes. We’ve been walking for a few minutes.. This warehouse is only a few blocks away from the pastry store and you’re standing again because... I didn’t know... well, I thought you were too weak to walk with but you’re not too weak to stand." He answered like he was reciting so lines from an old book and I frowned now because I knew that I hadn’t asked those questions out loud.
I seethed; "Get out of my head!"
"You’re one fiery woman, you know?" He drawled amusingly as if anything about my current predicant was amusing. "You know you should be thanking for being so thoughtful, but..."
"I wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for you!" I snapped,
Once again, I wrapped my arms around my chest and it wasn’t until I did this that I realized that that strange hold he had on was gone and that I was back to feeling like myself.
I hissed; "What is this about?"
"Like I said earlier, I wish to talk to you," he answered, "...and I couldn’t wait for you to get ho first, seeing how important it is that we talk."
I frowned. "What about?"
"I was wrong!" He cried, causing to cock my eyebrows at him.
Even though I was curious to know what he was talking about, I still couldn’t help but feel cautious around him. Goddess, I’d be a fool if my first thought isn’t to flee from this place right now!
I however discarded this thought when I rembered how he’d forced into coming here with him in the first place. So I asked instead; "What were you wrong about?"
"Your mates didn’t order the attack against you like I had thought. Your twin had and she made it seem like it was all them by paying the rogues through your mates’ bank account."
"Is that it?" I snorted irritatedly.
"Yes."
"I already know that."
Well what I didn’t tell him was how after finding out the truth, I thought he was a liar and a petty psycho who gets off on creating chaos where there was none. But now, looking at his confused face and listening to his words, I couldn’t help but think otherwise.
I couldn’t help but wonder if he was indeed looking out for but had drawn wrong conclusions in the process...
He sighed. "Oh,"
"Is that all?" I cut in, not missing the way his eyes widened slightly before he quickly masked his features into one of cold indifference.
He shook his head. "No."
"No?"
"Yeah... I also wanted to tell you that I have figured out a way to reawaken your sleeping Lycan."
"I am not a full Lycan." I hissed back, interrupting him. But he didn’t even flinch. He didn’t seem like he’d heard in the first place.
"Werewolf... Lycan... whatever you are. I figured out a way to awaken whatever the beast inside of you is." He whispered, and this ti, I couldn’t help myself.
My ears perked up and my heart began to race. I even subconsciously leaned towards him and didn’t realize this until I was standing too close to him— so close that his electric warmth enveloped like a cloak. So close that when he looked down at , I felt his warm breath tickling my forehead.
This may sound— well— weird, but standing this close to him made feel so type of way... it was as though I could feel the way he was feeling... like I could sense the thoughts floating around his head. And bloody Poseidon, they were not innocent thoughts.
I shuddered and took a step away from him. "How?"
He cocked his eyebrows at .
"How can it be done?"
At my words, he stopped to stare at for a mont. And as his eyes bored into mine for a mont too long, I couldn’t help but bristle. He smiled softly and said; "You need to mate with soone."
I rolled my eyes. "I have mates, Darius!" I snapped quickly, but as soon as the words escaped my mouth, I imdiately wanted to take them back.
He smiled again. "I didn’t say you need to be mated to soone. I said you need to mate with soone. With. And they should be powerful enough to withstand the—"
"Shut up!" I snapped, interrupting him imdiately and hating the way my cheeks burned. My anger flared inside of as I hissed; "Just say that you’re now the founder of so low quality porno site and that would make more sense because what do you an by I need to mate with soone?"
"You’re getting all wrong, Lani," he drawled in that soothing tone that I found oddly annoying. And when I turned away, he continued;
"You don’t have to have sex with anyone. Goddess, you could even marry . We wouldn’t need to consummate our marriage but we’ll mark each other. And that mark alone is enough to stir your lycan awake."
"And what would be in it for you?" I asked coldly, not buying this shit even for one minute.
He smiled. "Power." He answered without any filter. "I get the throne. I get to have you— a powerful woman— beside ; And for , that’s enough."
But nothing in those words made think fora mont, that that could ever be enough for a man like Darius. He wanted more—that I could tell— and that alone was enough to set on edge.
So I quickly shook my head and whispered; "Thank you, but no."
