Kael.

My breathing beca labored and hell, I knew that I should move but for so reason, I felt rooted in place. I could barely move, barely breathe, even though every living organ in was screaming at to move my ass.

The fear of what I may see in there kept rooted in place until my wolf began to thrash around in my head, his anger slipping through the bond between us as he scread;

’Get your ass moving, you idiot!’

And maybe that was all the push I needed. Maybe it was the shove I never knew was necessary...

When Leilani’s cry tore through the night’s stiff air again, I found myself shouldering her door down and dashing through the absolutely ssy house.

My limbs were doing all the thinking my brain couldn’t do at the mont and I found myself running through her house until I slamd into a closed door and froze...

Why?

Because she was sprawled on the floor, literally gasping for air as she thrashed and panted so violently I feared she would pass out— that’s if she hasn’t right now.

Her face was a strange shade of purple and her lips were so ashen it could literally pass for a painting. She was convulsing too— looking exactly like the way she had in my dreams two days ago— and that in itself was enough to have frozen in place.

"Leilani?! Lani?!" I scread, but she wouldn’t respond. Goddess, I feared she couldn’t even hear !

Panic slamd into my very being and I found myself rushing over to pick her up, and it wasn’t until she was in my arms, her face buried into my chest that I realized that I had just broken into her house. That I had just touched her against her will.

But who would think about that right now? Especially since she’s suddenly stopped thrashing violently.

She wasn’t even screaming out in pain anymore. She was just there, breathing heavily with her face buried into my body.

"Lani, please open your eyes!" I cried out in horror especially since the images from my dreams wouldn’t stop playing across my mind like pictures on a loop.

"Please, I beg you! Don’t die!" I scread again, shaking her slightly while I hoped that she would stir awake.

But she did not.

Oh heavens, what the hell happened here?

What the fuck should I do?

In my desperation, I forced myself to my feet and began to run out of the house, hoping that maybe a trip to the hospital was all I needed to wake her up.

I didn’t even realize how fast I had been running or the fact that tears were streaming down my face until I suddenly felt cold hands touch my cheeks.

I froze, halting so suddenly, I nearly crashed into a wall and then I looked down at her, my breath hitching in my chest when my eyes t her captivating purple ones which were fluttering open at the mont.

It was enthralling. srizing.

It made my heart forget how to beat. It made forget how to breathe.

A heavy sigh escaped my lips and my tears dropped onto her face. And in a voice I wasn’t exactly proud of, I whispered; "You’re awake?"

She opened her mouth, closed it and then opened it again before finally muttering; "Yes."

I had half-expected her to scream. To yell at . To ask why I was at her house at this ungodly hour. So it was a surprise when she did none of those, instead, she rasped;

"Thank you."

I froze again. Then slowly, a smile crept up my face.

"You’re most welco."

And I ant it. I ant it with everything I held dear. And by the gods, I didn’t mind having to run around like a mad man once more if only it would an that I would have to hear her say the words: ’thank you,’ to once again.

Leilani

My life was a series of unfortunate events.

If I were to write a book about it, I would most probably na it: ’The seven gates of hell,’ because co to think of it, there are tis when I cannot help but think that the moon goddess jerks off to seeing suffer.

Maybe she just likes to see how well I perform under stress, or maybe it was her ’thing’ to always put in harm’s way for so sick pleasure that she attains.

Because tell why I was relived to see Kael Stormborn of all people in my house at... what the fuck is the ti again?

I craned my neck backwards to look at the ti, and when I realized that it was a few minutes past two in the morning, I froze.

My eyes widened slowly when I took in his face and the panic flooding his features. His breath ca in short gasps and his hands shook as he pushed a cup of water into my hands.

I should be embarrassed that he must’ve walked in on sothing that could be described as the worst possible ti of my life; But I wasn’t. If anything, I was grateful.

"Lani, please drink so water," he said suddenly, snapping out of my many many thoughts and right then, I lifted my eyes to et his eyes and nearly gasped at the array of emotions I found swirling around his orbs like a storm.

There was fear, there was worry and bloody goddess, there was desperation.

His hands shot out to grab mine when I tried to sit up and after rearranging the throw pillows behind in a way that should feel comfortable, he drawled; "I’m sorry I ca into your house without your permission. I just couldn’t stand back while I heard you screaming in pain from miles away."

He seed remorseful and that was a first. Or was it?

Who was counting?

"It’s okay. Moreover you helped and that in itself is enough. Thank you."

An uncomfortable silence settled between us which was strange.

Why?

Because I knew Kael Stormborn and I knew that he was a curious man. Goddess, he could even be very nosey sotis as the case may be, so I tried to think of lies I could co up with or anything that could explain why he’d t in such a situation.

However, before I could open my mouth to speak, to ask him why he was here by this ti of the day, he suddenly asked;

"Is it that painful?"

"Is what that painful?" I asked, frowning.

"Not being one with your wolf? Not fully shifting..."

When he spoke, he sounded like he was in a lot of pain and that made turn to look at him, my brows furrowing when he t my gaze with a frown of his own.

I gulped. "It isn’t that. It’s not—"

"Don’t lie to , Lani. Don’t even try to hide it because I overheard Gavin and Maya talking about your situation. I heard what they said. However I didn’t know it was this bad..." He said, and as soon as I heard those words, I froze.

My heart hamred against my chest like a stupid drum, and by the gods, it took everything in not to faint one more ti.

And maybe I should have.

Especially since he then turned to and pulled into a hug, his chin resting atop my head as he sighed;

"It must be so hard on you... I am so soo sorry."
