Chalice.

For the next couple of minutes, the only thing I heard was the angry roars of the flas as it spread out even more than I expected it to. Besides that, the only other thing I heard was the shouts from all of those around .

Their screams, their curses and prayers.

Goddess, I could even hear the grunts from those that had been hurt by the fire.

But at this mont, only one thing mattered to : my escape! And you can call selfish, but I do not care at this point if one or two people would die from this fire!

My heart was beating in my chest so much that I feared I would hyperventilate. And that, coupled with the thick smoke filling my lungs made feel like I was on the brink of death.

And yes, I had begun to think I would die from this fire I had stupidly created until my cell doors burst open and a guard rushed inside to drag out.

I choked, crying out desperately for help as he dragged outside like a ragdoll to a small crowd ford just outside the dungeons where all the inmates were hurdled together like kids in an assembly.

When he threw on the floor, I winced, squinting my eyes against the sun. And maybe it was due to the fact that I’d been locked up in a dark cell for a couple of days now— I have lost count— my eyes hurt from all the brightness.

I hissed under my breath.

"You all should stay here until the fire is put out!" A large burly looking guard yelled at us at the top of his voice while another busied himself with cuffing our wrists one after the other.

Amidst the noise and everything, my eyes never left ’her’ face, and while I wondered where I’d t her before, I also wondered what her plan was.

Surely, she didn’t make start that fire only for us to be chained outside under the scorching sun. Did she?

I was however snapped out of these thoughts when I noticed how she began to march through the crowd to co stand beside . She was about a foot taller than , and for this reason had to bow so low to whisper into my ear;

"It is ti."

"Ti for what?" I hissed back, "What ti could it possibly be now that we’ve been cuffed?"

"I have a key," she whispered under her breath, "I stole it... but you must be discreet, and make sure your cuffs do not fall down while taking it off!"

I frowned slightly at her words, but when they finally settled in my mind, I nodded once. She smiled. And then I began to watch as she slowly but expertly unclasped the cuffs around her wrist while she also pretended to be distraught while at it.

By the ti she was done, she passed the key and made imitate her actions. But by this ti, the guards were already successfully putting out the fire.

My eyes darted from her face to the dungeon gates and then back, and as if suddenly realising that I was worried about the fire and the fact that it was being easily put out, she shrugged; "Don’t worry,"

"Huh?"

"Don’t worry, there’ll be an explosion soon!" She hissed.

I frowned at her, not quite understanding what she ant by that, and when she saw the look on my face, she smiled again and muttered;

"There’s a cell at the back. It contains explosives and torture devices. Rumor has it that there could be a considerable amount of C4 in there and the fire is heading in that direction."

"And you think it’ll all go up soon?"

"I know it will." She drawled, patting my back and with that, turned away to blend with the crowd just as the clasps in my cuff fell through.

I sighed. "Bitch!"

However, I had just freed myself from the cuffs when the floor began to rumble underneath our feet. Screams erupted once more from every angle and in a mont of panic, I turned to her and cocked my brows as if silently asking; ’What is it?’

She shrugged, mouthed the words; "C4" to before she began to run with the others that were also running too.

But I had been too slow. Too lost in my own world. Too stupid.

I fell over a large stone and cried out when my bones snapped. But do you know what? Nobody turned to check on . Nobody cared that I was dying or going to die despite the fact that I was their Luna once.

I tried to stand up but my body protested. I tried to speak but my voice felt like they had gone on a trip, never to return again.

Tears filled my eyes as I struggled to move, but because I was too afraid and trembling, that was almost impossible to do. However, just when I had begun to gain so montum— even if it was just a little— the next thing I heard was:

Boom!

The explosion was so loud and so powerful, it shook the ground beneath us and threw a few tres forward.

A loud painful scream tore out from the back of my throat when pain exploded in my scalp and buttocks. And I swear to the heavens, I could tell that my butts and hair were literally on fire.

"Chalice!" I heard soone scream,

"Luna!" Another person shouted. But I couldn’t respond because my tongue felt too swollen to move and the pain lancing through my midriff was too much to bear.

The pain was the last thing I felt before the world suddenly began to spin before . Sounds were dissolved into nothing but white noise... and with a heavy sigh, I sunk into an abyss.

A deep dark painful abyss.

Kael.

"Good day Alpha, I am sorry to disturb your afternoon, but there has been an explosion at the pack dungeons!" Aston, my favorite bodyguard’s voice seeped through the receiver of my phone, and as soon as I heard those words, I froze. Every living cell in my body turned into ice and I gritted out;

"How?"

"The cause of the fire has not yet been established, but from what I’ve heard and inspected, it spread out to the last cell..."

"The cell containing confiscated explosives?" I hissed, causing both Zevran and Caelum to turn to with confused expressions on their faces, and because I didn’t want to have to re-explain what was going on to them, I simply turned on the phone’s speaker and placed it on my desk as Aston’s voice continued to seep through the device;

He answered; "Yes, Alpha. So of the prisoners were injured in the fire. An unidentified woman died... and the previous Luna... Luna Chalice..."

"What the fuck happened to Chalice?" Caelum growled and I had to eye him to stop him from interrupting Aston even further.

He nodded.

"Luna Chalice escaped with another prisoner. We’ve sent out people to search for them but they haven’t been found yet."

An uncomfortable silence settled between us as soon as he said those words, then like a possessed man, Caelum suddenly threw the AirPod in his hands against the wall and spat in a voice cold enough to freeze hell;

"She caused the fire!"

"You can’t be so sure of that—" I began to say but stopped when he eyed and raised his hands as if ready to strike .

"She did. And I am sure you know that deep down."

I wanted to argue with him, wanted to tell him that he could be wrong, but knowing Chalice and how much of a nace she could be, I didn’t respond.

I couldn’t.

I sighed instead. "Look for her and leave no stone unturned until she is caught!"

"Yes, Alpha!"
