I laid back against the stiff hospital bed, smiling softly as I listened to Jarek reading out emails regarding work to from his phone.

And then, he began to read text ssages out to too, most of which were text ssages from fellow employees working at the company who had heard about my unfortunate situation. And while a few of them had been brief, most of those texts were from Yvette, his PA, who in her words said: "that the office now looked bleak and grey without my constant color."

Her ssage made both Jay and I laugh out loud, and in that mont, I couldn’t help but be grateful to him. For the past two days, he’s been a constant help to , guiding with care and providing with everything I needed, whether I asked for it or not.

Hell, it didn’t even seem as though he was mad at after we’d parted on weird terms that night after the party I still hated to think about.

And since he didn’t bring it up... I wouldn’t just yet.

I smiled. "So how is the whole situation with CUSP going? I have plotted the outline and created several templates we can follow in the implentation of its core logic, but—"

"You’re halfway to hell, probably currently wining and dining with the devil, and you can still stop to think about work right now?" He gasped, sounding exasperated.

His brows furrowed as he looked over at , but I paid him no heed, stubbornly continuing by asking; "Can you bring my laptop over?"

"You an the sa laptop we found at the backseat of your opened car in the company’s parking lot on Monday morning?" He drawled, and then dropping his voice until it was barely above a whisper, he asked;

"Can you tell exactly what happened to you? I have even worried sick, pondering over every possibility I could think of... and nothing. Leilani, I am lost! I need to know how your car was found open... abandoned and all, at the company while you were missing. That and the fact that this all seems to have happened on Sunday night."

"I was at the company," I said flatly, ignoring the rest of his question. "I went to work because I was pretty restless. And that was the day I created the said templates."

"I’m not disputing that..." Jay drawled softly, coming to tuck a stray tendril from my face. I shivered, catching a whiff of his rich scent when his fingers brushed against my face. "...however, I think— no, scratch that— I know you were kidnapped or sothing along those lines, but sohow, you’ve been reluctant to say anything about it."

At his words, I froze, closed my eyes and let out a long breath. "I don’t want to talk about it."

"Why?" He snapped quickly— too quickly, but as if suddenly realizing his mistake, he drawled; "I get that you may not want to recount the events of what happened as it may have been traumatic for you, and I’m not going to push you for answers... but just so you know, I’ll find out. And I’ll destroy them."

My eyes lifted slowly to et his as I fisted my hands into the bed. Quietly, I shook my head. "No."

"No, what?"

"No, you wouldn’t destroy them." I said, my voice trembling as I said the words. I could still feel Caelum’s and Kael’s cold eyes on ... could still feel the prickle of the needle against my arm. I could still sll the dampness of the cold damp room in my nose. I muttered; "You wouldn’t make them pay."

"Why?"

"Because I’ll do it myself.. and because there’s no proof tying them to what they did to ." I finally blurted, my voice trembling as tears stread down my face. "Also, if we report them for what they did, I’ll simply be crying wolf... moreover, soone else who’s innocent would be dragged into the ss."

"Do you realize you’re protecting your kidnappers, Leilani? Do you know you’re saving them— whoever they are?" He asked, causing tears to leak out of my eyes uncontrollably, and I lowered my gaze.

Truthfully, I was tired of burdening him with my affairs. I was tired of dragging him into a ss that was none of his business to begin with.

My eyelids felt heavy as I stared at the patterns on the bedsheets and then after a mont’s hesitation, I whispered; "I’m not protecting them. I would never protect them."

"Are you sure?" He asked, then sighing, he added; "I can almost swear that you are."

"I’m sure."

"Why do I feel they’re your mates?" He asked suddenly, causing my head to imdiately snap up to et his gaze.

He frowned, shaking his head. "It’s them. No wonder."

"Jay..."

"No wonder Zevran called to co take care of you and ntioned how you wouldn’t want to see him."

"No wonder all of a sudden, he began to pretend to care." He spat. "Was that guilt? Was his conscience eating him up for doing this to you? How is it possible that you lost so much blood if they didn’t even injure you anywhere?"

"No, I..."

"Why are you protecting them?!"

"I’m not protecting them!" I snarled, causing him to snap his mouth shut imdiately. Jarek’s eyes widened as he regarded quietly, as if staring at a stranger.

I pressed my lips together, dropped my head one more ti and muttered; "I’m not protecting them. There’s really no proof of what they did to . And Zevran... he was not a part of it. He saved actually."

That made Jarek freeze. His eyes widened slowly before he shook his head and whispered; "I find that hard to believe."

"I do too." I muttered. And then I told him everything. Not missing a single information.

His face darkened with every word I spoke, and by the end of my brief run down of what happened, he was seething with rage, his nostrils flaring with barely contained anger.

However, what surprised was not his rage, it was the possessive way in which he stared at . It was the aura that emanated from him in waves.

He spat; "How can they be so cruel?"

But I said nothing. I already always knew how cruel they could be. So it was no news.

I drawled instead; "I don’t care if Chalice put them to it or not. What matters is that she lied. She was never pregnant and I can swear to the moon goddess that she was never even hemorrhaging."

"Oh, she wasn’t!" Jarek snorted derisively. Sounding so sure of himself that I had to turn and look.

I couldn’t help it. I asked; "And how do you know that?"

He smiled, shrugged and soon began to explain; "On the night of the event, after you know... we parted ways. I went to the hospital and I saw her making out with a young doctor in one of the empty wards. And if I’m being true to myself, they weren’t really making out though, they were full blown acting out a scene from pornhub."

The way he said it so casually had my blood running cold. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t possibly believe that Chalice would...

Oh, no.

I froze, turned to him and drawled; "That can’t be true."

"Oh, it is!" He snorted. "I wanted to make a video of them but I figured it’d be disgusting to have sothing like that on my phone... so I got soone to fetch the footage. And now, I have it on a flash drive."

My mouth hung open in shock. I stared at him for a long ti, just wondering what he was doing at the hospital, but then I shook my head against it and thought back to Chalice.

News like this was damning. Very damning... then having proof with it? That was just the best.

I turned to Jarek and flashed him a smile. "I wonder what the triplets would think when they find out about this."

"I am certain it would be... spectacular."
