As they entered the airport, the driver helped Jasmine Yale with her luggage from the trunk.
The VIP channel was deserted except for her and Sylvan Cheney standing there.
Not a soul in sight.
“I’ll take your luggage in,” said Sylvan, his voice muted.
“No need, I can manage,” Jasmine shook her head in refusal, “Let’s part here, thanks for the ride, I’m leaving.”
Jasmine’s small face bore a calm expression, her eyes tranquil, like the still waters of a placid lake, shallow and clear.
Her long eyelashes fluttered slightly, causing a tiny ripple of light in her eyes.
“Hmm, take care,” Sylvan didn’t say much more.
He too was calm, his eyes devoid of any emotion, but his gaze remained fixed on Jasmine’s face.
“I’m off then, you take care, too.”
Jasmine steadied her luggage, ready to turn around.
She couldn’t fathom what was in his heart, she only knew that he had gone out of his way to drop her off.
Whether he sent her off or not, it didn’t matter to her.
Jasmine steadied her luggage and turned, walking along the quiet VIP channel alone, the area deserted, the only sound was that of her boots tapping against the ground, echoing.
Sylvan didn’t leave, his hands buried in the pockets of his black coat, his eyes narrowed slightly as he watched her receding figure with a piercing gaze.
Sylvan didn’t even know what he was hoping for as he watched her, his gaze never wavering from her petite silhouette.
But she never looked back.
The end of the corridor was a turning point, beyond that was the parting point, where she wouldn’t be seen again.
Jasmine moved toward the corner, her figure slender, her steps gentle.
When she reached the corner, she didn’t look back.
Finally, her figure vanished from sight, the entire corridor lay empty, the footsteps… disappeared too.
Yet Sylvan still didn’t leave, continuing to look straight ahead.
No one ca to interrupt him, and he continued to stand in that sa posture, unmoving.
Tall and solitary, he stood alone.
At the turn, Jasmine steadied her luggage, when suddenly… her heart began to pound uncontrollably, as if it would leap out of her chest, right up through her throat.
Her hand on the luggage trembled, her knuckles turning white, and her heart raced even faster.
This confusing, chaotic sensation had been absent for so long, without any reason.
She looked down, her feet felt soft, and she couldn’t move.
Jasmine leaned against the wall, her mind suddenly blank.
For a very long ti, she couldn’t snap out of it.
It was so quiet and deserted here, she was alone as if in a vast desert, the path was clearly ahead, yet she didn’t know how to move forward.
At the entrance of the VIP channel.
The driver, seeing Sylvan still not moving, asked in a lowered voice, “Mr. Cheney, shall we go?”
Sylvan closed his eyes, shadowed with fatigue, the light in his eyes completely gone, replaced by a pale emptiness.
“Let’s go,” said Sylvan as he turned and left with a stern deanor.
The driver followed closely behind.
On the way there, he was accompanied by Jasmine, but now he was all by himself on the return journey.
The airport buzzed with activity, with crowds of people coming and going.
“Mr. Cheney, where to?” the driver took his seat behind the wheel and asked.
“To the Cheney Group.”
“Alright.”
Following Sylvan’s instructions, the driver set off from the airport toward the Cheney Group.
The backseat missing the lively presence of Xiao Ya felt like a missing world, the entire narrow interior of the car quieted down.
The car, which was once bustling, suddenly seed to have lost sothing.
Sylvan leaned against the car window and massaged his heavy forehead, his temples throbbing incessantly.
