“Don’t!” She was angry and a bit scared.
Sylvan Cheney fell silent, not making a sound.

“You’re a man, you should take responsibility, you can’t shirk it, even if it’s not your fault.”

Sylvan Cheney couldn’t be bothered to argue with a little girl.
Seeing him, Jasmine Yale talked more, her mood lifted, and the gloom of the past month was swept away.
Sitting in the car, she chatted with him about this and that, thoroughly enjoying herself.

“Not tired.”

Jasmine Yale took his silence as assent; she knew him well, he was always laconic.
So, she took it as his silent agreent, happily hugging his arm.
By the ti they arrived at Cheney Residence, it was past eleven at night, but the house was warm and brightly lit, a stark contrast to the dark streets outside.
Aunt Hurst had already prepared a table full of dishes, and Jasmine Yale happily sat next to Sylvan Cheney.
She also enthusiastically helped him take off his coat and scarf, served him rice and soup, busily and oh, so happily.
The light was bright, the warmth was comforting.
Her laughter seed to be encapsulated within her mories, like a piece of ice frozen solid and unlting.
“Miss, the plane has arrived, it’s ti to disembark,” the flight attendant bent down, waking Jasmine Yale.
Jasmine Yale was startled, a look of bewildernt in her eyes, her hand clutching the blanket trembled.
The dream shattered in an instant, and she felt chilled to the bone, as if placed in an icehouse.
Before her, there was only the pretty flight attendant. No Cheney Residence, no one she recognized.
Jasmine Yale forced a smile.
So she had arrived in Chicago, like waking from a dream.
When she boarded the plane, she had taken a sleeping pill, never expecting it to work so well, making her sleep so long and deeply, and have such an extended dream.
