Chapter 1359: Chapter 1359: Intimidated by Him Since Childhood
Jasmine Yale couldn’t leave the Cheney Residence, not that she couldn’t actually go out, but Butler Santana couldn’t persuade her otherwise.
But she knew that if she disobeyed, he would be very angry.
The afternoon sun was bright and clear, and Jasmine Yale sat on the balcony asking Butler Santana for so wool.
“Miss Yale, are you knitting a scarf for Mr. Cheney?”
“Um, which color looks good?”
Jasmine Yale held the wool in her hand, comparing them: there was black, gray, red…
“Choose the dark red one; it looks good,” suggested Butler Santana.
“I also think this one is nice; he has the other colors.”
On the balcony, she chatted incessantly with Butler Santana, almost like mother and daughter.
Privately, Butler Santana treated Jasmine Yale as her own daughter; she liked Jasmine’s unpretentious and straightforward character.
High society was full of intrigue.
And evidently, Jasmine Yale didn’t harbor those kinds of thoughts; it showed how well Mr. Cheney had protected her.
The sunlight penetrated the transparent glass window, slanting sharply across the floor.
A few pots of fresh flowers and plants on the balcony looked vibrant, almost Spring-like.
“Miss Yale, Mr. Cheney is in a very good mood today, quite different from usual,” Butler Santana said, helping her with the wool, smiling.
“Butler Santana, do you think he likes ?”
“He does. I’ve been with Mr. Cheney for many years, never seen him so preoccupied with any girl like this. When you weren’t here, he was in a bad mood, often standing alone by the window smoking. Sotis, early in the morning, I would sweep up a pile of cigarette butts.”
“Why did he dismiss the servants?”
“I don’t know about Mr. Cheney’s matters; I dare not ask.”
“Indeed, he can be quite intimidating.”
Jasmine Yale was scared by him since she was a child.
Thinking about it now, he was only good at scaring her, but when it ca to true action, he really didn’t do much.
“Miss Yale, now that you’re back, you won’t leave again, right?” Butler Santana asked worriedly, fearful that Jasmine Yale would leave again.
Jasmine Yale said firmly: “I won’t leave now.”
“How has your year abroad been? Anyway, Mr. Cheney hasn’t been doing very well, Miss Yale. Didn’t you notice that Mr. Cheney has lost a lot of weight?”
Jasmine Yale nodded: “I’ve noticed, he’s thinner than before, and he looks very worn.”
“Yes, he’s been to the hospital several tis this past year.”
“Ah?” Jasmine Yale exclaid in surprise, “What for?”
How careless of him.
She rembered he used to be very healthy; he seldom even took dicine, let alone visit the hospital.
“Sotis it was a fever, other tis stomach pain or injuries. He’s even vomited blood several tis.”
“Why didn’t anyone tell ?” Jasmine Yale lowered her head, her eyes shimring blankly.
She truly knew nothing.
The only thing she knew was the incident from a year ago when he was injured.
That ti, he traveled to Chicago to find her, saying he had taken a 12-hour flight.
Unfortunately, he didn’t even stay with her for 12 minutes.
That ti, he was seriously injured, her hands covered in blood.
To this day, she still didn’t know why he was injured.
A pang struck Jasmine Yale’s heart, throwing her into slight panic. Had she been too heartless?
“Miss Yale, it’s not that no one told you; Mr. Cheney didn’t allow anyone to contact you,” Butler Santana explained, “But now that you’re back, it’s fine. Miss Yale, you don’t know how tornting it is in this world to yearn for soone you can’t see.”
No one can alleviate the sorrow of yearning; the anxious heart is tangled with a million threads.
“Have there been any visitors to the Cheney Residence recently?” Jasmine Yale asked.
