Chapter 1481: Chapter 1481: Unaware of How High the Sky and How Thick the Earth Is
How could a man tolerate his girlfriend being encroached upon by another man?
Yet when he spoke of Joan Harry, there was no fluctuation in Sylvan Cheney’s eyes.
There were only two reasons: one is that Sylvan has hidden his feelings too deeply; the other is that Sylvan has no feelings for Joan Harry.
Most likely, the answer is the latter.
“Jesse Rowan, returning to the country and choosing to target the Harry Family was not a whim, was it?” Sylvan’s gaze t his, his deep features hiding in the dim light.
Sylvan’s sharp eyes were fixed on Jesse Rowan, not letting up for a second.
Jesse’s gaze sank sowhat, a rare restraint in his eyes.
But after a mont, he scoffed, “Mr. Cheney, where have you been hearing these rumors and gossip? I didn’t realize Mr. Cheney was such a nosy person, loving to pry into others’ private affairs. Unlike , I’ve never been one to interfere in others’ personal lives.”
As he said this, Jesse took a fierce drag on his cigarette.
“Mr. Rowan is overestimating himself. I truly have no interest in you. However, coming back to the country and sparing no expense, using money as bait, taking lives as ans to bring down the Harry Family, that’s not sothing an ordinary person can do…”
Towards the end of his words, Sylvan’s voice lowered, but his eyes stayed locked on Jesse’s face.
In the clear eyes of the young man, a few more sinister shadows erged.
Finally, he showed so signs of being moved.
But Jesse rely took a couple of puffs of his cigarette, speaking indifferently, “Mr. Cheney need not worry about others. Better to show so concern for the Cheney Family.”
“What you want to do to the Cheney Family is just that, isn’t it? I ca here today because I’ve thought it through clearly. Trading the Cheney Family for ten years of my life is naturally a good deal,” Sylvan said, his tone calm and composed as if discussing an entirely ordinary contract.
“If I were you, Mr. Cheney, I’d think it’s a good deal too,” Jesse replied, “But don’t bla , Mr. Cheney. I had no real interest in the Cheney Family. It’s just that after discovering such an interesting thing in the Harry Family, I thought, why not just take the opportunity to take the Cheney Family under my wing as well.”
“Aren’t you afraid of biting off more than you can chew?” Sylvan’s face was cold as frost, his eyes a bottomless dark abyss.
“The timid starve to death, the brave die from overeating. I’d rather die from overeating than starve to death,” Jesse squinted, taking a drag of his cigarette.
Smoke swirled around the side of his face, adding a colder and more desolate outline to Jesse’s fair complexion, the smile on his lips sowhat forced.
Two different n sat face-to-face, brewing a unique atmosphere in the private room.
Tense, quiet, profound.
Sylvan drank his liquor, his expression unchanged, as calm as cold water, without a ripple.
A frozen smile lingered at the corner of Jesse’s lips.
For quite so ti, Sylvan didn’t speak, and Jesse remained silent as well.
The atmosphere was sowhat deadlocked.
The room was so quiet you could hear the delicate noises of the aromatherapy machine in operation.
“How confident are you in managing the Cheney Family? Hmm?” Sylvan broke the silence.
“How confident? Of course, completely confident,” Jesse answered.
Sylvan let out a cold laugh. “Youth is truly wonderful, unaware of the imnsity of heaven and earth. When I was your age, you were still in elentary school, and now you have the audacity to discuss terms with .”
He wasn’t so overconfident at Jesse’s age.
He vaguely rembered back then; all the major enterprises in Landon colluded to pressure him, with the Elders Cheney taking advantage of his youth, forcing him to hand over his shares of the Cheney Family, or else they would ruin it completely.
Many sleepless days and nights, from financing to consolidation, he safeguarded the Cheney Family with his strong capabilities and secured his position as the CEO.
