Sylvan Cheney held her in his arms, his large hand gently stroking her long hair.
"Things like accidents, no one can predict." His raspy voice slowly resonated above her head, "The departed are gone."
Jasmine Yale nodded, lying against Sylvan Cheney’s chest.
The last ti she watched the news, she still harbored a faint hope that it wasn’t Zaiden Santos.
But it turned out there was no such luck.
Sylvan Cheney’s embrace was warm; she stayed nestled in his arms, unwilling to co out.
Many tis, his embrace had been her haven; sotis, a hug from him was enough.
Sylvan Cheney bowed his head, his thin lips gliding over her forehead, planting soft kisses.
"Ann Nolan’s fine. My people found out she’s already left the cetery and headed to the airport. However, while at the cetery, she ran into Harper Glorian."
"Did they argue?"
"Not sure, but Harper Glorian likely didn’t gain the upper hand."
"Hmm." Jasmine agreed, "It’s just a pity that Harper Glorian doesn’t truly love Zaiden Santos. If she did, she wouldn’t have dated several n after Zaiden passed. The person who loved Zaiden Santos the most was Ann, but Zaiden didn’t cherish her."
Sylvan Cheney didn’t say much more; he had always avoided ddling in others’ private affairs.
"Hungry? Let’s eat." Sylvan Cheney held her around her waist.
"Did you know about this a long ti ago?"
"I prepared Zaiden’s burial site for him."
Jasmine felt a wave of emotions surging and churning within her heart.
She leaned against his chest, seemingly sighed, and murmured softly, "Let’s eat."
Butler Santana had already prepared the al.
This al, Jasmine didn’t eat much. Her mood was still heavy.
"With Zaiden gone, I actually hope Ann can be with Evan Guerrero. Having soone take care of her would be good." Jasmine said quietly, "Evan is cautious and thoughtful, very good at taking care of others, and he clearly cares about Ann. What do you think?"
"CEO Santos is a good person."
"Few n can treat soone else’s child as their own, but Evan can." Jasmine lanted, "It’s just a pity; this must be what they an by ’missed encounters before marriage.’ If Ann had t Evan from the start, wouldn’t that have been great?"
Sylvan Cheney furrowed his brows, giving her a aningful glance.
Jasmine was puzzled: "Why are you looking at like that? Did I say sothing wrong?"
"What if the person you had t from the start was Yukon Carbon?"
Jasmine froze for a mont, baffled at what he ant.
Was he jealous out of the blue?
Jasmine took a bite of her food, eting his intense gaze, and chuckled, "But the one I t was you."
So fates neither arrive too early nor too late.
In the barren field of ti, there’s always soone who’s ant to co into your life.
Sylvan Cheney didn’t probe further, but his tone carried dominance: "Even if you had t soone else, I’d have a hundred ways to steal you back."
"Rogue."
"Certainly."
Jasmine was speechless once again; calling him a rogue, he admitted so openly and boldly.
Still, her heart felt a warm current flow through it, like a cup of red bean-flavored milk tea—sweet and comforting.
This winter was cold, but fortunately, amidst the chill, she still had him by her side.
"Honey, there are only two days’ worth of herbal dicine left. Once I finish this dosage, do I need to keep taking it?" Jasmine suddenly rembered.
"I’ll take you to the hospital in a few days to have a checkup."
"Oh, and if everything checks out fine?" Jasmine lightly poked at the tofu with her chopsticks, her tone unassuming, her face devoid of much expression.
