She only knew that behind her was a demon, a creature that would devour her, flesh and blood!
Cold wind whipped across her face, leaving her senseless as she leaned against the wall, stumbling forward!
Her heart pounded fiercely, almost leaping out of her throat.
However, her legs felt as if they were filled with lead, overwhelmingly heavy.
Behind her, Jesse Rowan let out a cold laugh and strode forward, swiping his long arm to wrench her back fiercely!
“No!” Joan Harry was caught by him, falling helplessly against his hard, cold chest, panic-stricken.
Her hair fell loose, utterly disheveled.
“I asked who you were calling.” Jesse Rowan spoke almost word by word, each sentence laced with anger.
Joan Harry said nothing.
“Not talking? Joan Harry, as it turns out, I’ve heard it all.” Jesse Rowan pinched her chin, as though gripping a frail cat, effortlessly, “It was Sylvan Cheney, wasn’t it? I always wondered, each night being with was like facing execution. Could it be you still can’t let go of that man in your heart?”
Joan Harry’s chin was cruelly squeezed, her throat clutched tight, not a single word could escape.

Her face shifted from pale to red, her large eyes glowering at Jesse Rowan.
Tears welled in her eye sockets, and traces of dried tears still marked her face.
“What is so good about that man that you can’t forget him? Repay him? With what? With your broken, ruined body?” Jesse Rowan tightened his grip fiercely, like an enraged lion.
Joan Harry closed her eyes, two streams of tears falling from the corners of her eyes.
At this mont, she should slap him.
But unfortunately, she was barely breathing.

With that thought, she laughed, the curve of her lips resembling a poisonous poppy, seductive yet venomous.
