Chapter 1568: Chapter 1568: Don’t Expect to Have Good Days in the Future
Late winter in Landon, the weather remained bitterly cold.
Especially at night, when the cold wind blew, the temperature dropped sharply.
Frost flowers ford on the glass windows, and due to the difference in temperature between indoors and outdoors, the inside of the glass depicted a warm scene.
The ambiguous sounds and breaths spread throughout the suite.
No one could tell how much ti had passed before this less-than-pleasant affair finally ended in a disarray.
Joan Harry had scratched long, bloody marks across Jesse Rowan’s back, while Jesse had hardly spared any consideration for Joan’s feelings, remaining dominant throughout.
The two were like trapped beasts, biting, retaliating—neither wanting the other to have it easy.
Jesse’s body was covered in wounds, shockingly apparent.
Joan didn’t fare much better, her hair a ss, her body marked with kisses.
The effects of the drug began to fade.
Still, though the experience was far from ideal, Jesse was ultimately satisfied.
He straightened his back, released Joan, and looked down at her as if she were his prey.
Joan refused to open her eyes, but he pinched her chin and forced her to face him.
“Look at .” Jesse spoke coldly. “Take a good look. I am Jesse Rowan, not whoever it is you’re thinking about! Right now, you’re in my bed—in Jesse Rowan’s bed.”
“…” Joan didn’t respond, her lips moved slightly.
When he kissed her earlier, she had fought back so fiercely that she bit herself in the process—her lips now bore a trace of crimson blood.
Of course, Jesse wasn’t in much better shape.
“You’d better get rid of every man you have in your heart as fast as possible.” Jesse jabbed at the region over her heart with his finger. “Otherwise, I won’t be as courteous as I was today.”
“And don’t expect to have good days ahead. You only have two paths: one, appease , and I might let you live a bit more peacefully; or two, rebel against , and I’ll make your life worse than death.”
“Jesse Rowan.” Joan finally spoke, her voice hoarse, her lifeless eyes faintly landing on his cold expression. “What happens when you get married and have kids? Will you still keep tied to your side?”
“It’s perfectly normal for a man to have a mistress.”
“I see.” Joan now understood the label he had given her—mistress.
Her long eyelashes drooped like broken wings, fluttering faintly before becoming utterly still.
“Why …” Joan murmured.
From beginning to end, she never understood why Jesse set his sights on her.
But for n like him, they played by interest alone, without concern for reasons.
Today’s events had made one thing unequivocally clear to her—she had no power to resist Jesse. Submission made life easier than defiance.
Should she just hope the Harry Family could endure this crisis?
But… hoping felt beyond her reach.
Jesse jumped off the bed, wrapped himself in a robe, and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window to light a cigarette.
Joan sat up, wrapped in the blanket, remaining silent.
The air was still thick with the lingering ambiguous scent and the lavender aroma from the essential oil.
This night was unbearably long.
It felt like stepping into a dead-end alley, with no end in sight.
She watched Jesse’s back, feeling dazed and lost.
More than a month ago, she never would have imagined eting a man who was a total stranger.
Jesse was very young, with clean, short hair and bangs that made him look as if he had just co of age.
Yet, the younger the man, the more immature he seed.
Joan hugged her knees, motionless.
The suite plunged into an endless, oppressive silence.
