The female doctor in front of them was kind and approachable, and Jasmine Yale found her very amicable.

“So beautiful.” Aunt May complinted Jasmine Yale again, and couldn’t help but pull her away from Sylvan’s side. “With this beauty, I wish you were my daughter-in-law. My son is a few years younger than Sylvan—why don’t you consider him?”
Sylvan Cheney: “…”
Jasmine Yale smiled. “Aunt May, Sylvan treats very well.”
“Really?” Aunt May looked unconvinced and glanced at Sylvan.
Sylvan changed the subject. “Aunt May, why don’t you give Jasmine a check-up?”
“The dicine you took from before—was it for Jasmine?” Aunt May’s smile faded.
“Yes,” Sylvan nodded.
“Her body suffered so much damage after giving birth, and I just don’t see how you’ve been good to her,” Aunt May said coolly, her eyes faintly cold.
“It’s my fault,” Sylvan admitted without hesitation.
Jasmine Yale quickly took Aunt May’s hand. “That period was being a bit willful. It had nothing to do with him.”
“No need to excuse him. If a man can’t even take care of his own wife, what use is power or status?” Aunt May shot Sylvan a glance. “Don’t you agree?”
Sylvan, like a junior under reprimand, listened humbly. “I agree.”
Jasmine Yale rarely saw Sylvan so submissive while being scolded by an elder.
“You wait outside. I’ll examine Jasmine,” Aunt May said as she prepared to put on a mask and gloves.
“I’ll wait for you outside,” Sylvan said as he squeezed Jasmine Yale’s hand. “Don’t worry.”
Although there was still a trace of fear in Jasmine’s eyes, she didn’t want Sylvan to worry and nodded gently.
As Sylvan walked out, the clinic was left with just Jasmine Yale and Aunt May.
Jasmine Yale lay down on the bed and closed her eyes.
Aunt May examined her thoroughly and thodically.
Sylvan hadn’t gone far. He waited in the smoking area outside and lit a cigarette.
Back when he had told Aunt May about Jasmine’s condition, she had scolded him a few tis for being irresponsible.
Looking back now, he realized she was right—he had indeed been a bastard.
Before having a child, Jasmine Yale had been so lively. Even when she had her period, she would dare to eat popsicles and never once complained about pain.
He still rembered three years later, seeing her again during her period. She lay in bed, curled up in agony, her face pale and bloodless.
The fault—all of it—was his.
Sylvan took a slow drag on his cigarette. Everything he was doing now was just damage control after closing the barn door too late.
The wounds he had caused her—no matter how much he tried to make ands—would always leave scars.
Even when wounds heal completely, they still leave marks.
Just like the bite mark on her neck. Despite using all kinds of dication, if you looked closely, the faint trace was still there.
Sylvan knew he had gone too far.
For those three years, he hadn’t even made one phone call to her.
And she, in turn, had never once complained to him about the hardships she had endured.
Having a child out of wedlock while still in college—everything she had to endure on her own, how could he not know?
Sylvan rubbed his temples. Even the nicotine from his cigarette couldn’t numb his nerves.
He thought again of how she had recently hidden under the covers, suffering during her nstruation.
On her twentieth birthday, she had been drunk, but he had been sober.
