On the third day at noon, the rain had stopped.
The warm hospital room was filled with a faint scent of dicine.
On the hospital bed, Lilac Serval sat silently, taking occasional sips of the white fungus and lotus seed soup that Charles Mcintosh was feeding her.
The sweet flavor spread in her mouth. She lowered her head, staring at the white bedsheet.
The fever had subsided, but her complexion was still poor, pale.
“I’m leaving tomorrow,” Lilac said softly.
“I won’t allow it.”
“Whether you allow it or not, I’m leaving tomorrow.”
“Can’t you just change your stubborn temper? In your current state, can you even go? You almost lost your life, and you’re not even aware?” Charles’ voice was filled with annoyance.
He was still angry about that night’s events.
Anger was one thing, but more than that, he was filled with fear.
If he had no power or influence in Landon, how could he have found her? Even then, when he found her, she had already been lying in the rain for two hours.
“Why should I change my temper? I’ve always been like this!” Lilac’s words were still sharp, her eyes dull, gazing at Charles with coldness and a sense of distance.
“Just eat.” Charles did not argue, raising his hand to feed her a spoonful of the white fungus soup.
It was rare for him to show a soft attitude, leaving Lilac with nowhere to vent her anger, so she let it go.
Biting the spoon, Lilac didn’t reject the delicious food.
The white fungus soup tasted good, and she happened to be hungry.
Once they finished the bowl, Charles cleaned the table and tossed her a delicately packaged box: “I got this for you on a whim, thinking you might be in a bad mood because you’re sick.”
Curious, Lilac reached out to take it, and opened it.
It turned out to be a talking toy cat. When Lilac squeezed its belly, it made a “gurgle” sound.
She patted its head, and it shook slightly.
“What’s your na?” Lilac laughed.
“Miu miu!”
Lilac laughed even harder, finally showing a smile on her pale face.
While tidying up the table, Charles couldn’t help but glance at her a few tis. A small gadget costing just a few hundred bucks could make her so happy; perhaps it was worth it after all…
At the very least, despite having bought her gifts worth thousands, he had never seen her this pleased.
Charles discreetly continued tidying the table, while Lilac played joyfully with the miu miu toy.

Lilac kept her head down, playing with miu miu, while Charles slowly moved closer to her.
At first, there was about half an arm’s distance between them, but gradually, Charles moved to sit right next to her, almost touching her.
Lilac didn’t really notice, engrossed in taking the tiny cat outfits out of the box and dressing miu miu in them, despite its childishness, she found it great fun.
In her childhood, toys were luxuries to her, especially high-end ones like this.

As she dressed miu miu, Charles also reached out to adjust miu miu’s clothes.
When his finger touched hers, Lilac recoiled as if she had been electrocuted.
