The assistant froze for a mont, mouth agape in astonishnt.

He said nothing, only seriously replied, "I’ll assign more personnel."

"Mm." Charles nodded.

Charles rembered that as he helped Jasmine Yale into the cabin, Spencer Childe fired several more shots towards Sylvan Cheney.

He had no idea where those shots landed.

But when the boat capsized, he could no longer see Sylvan Cheney...

Sylvan was a good swimr, but even the best swimming skills were no match for the torrential river and severe injuries.

Charles felt utterly suffocated; he treated Sylvan like a brother, and Sylvan’s accident was like losing a part of himself.

His chest felt tight, and he could hardly catch his breath.

Charles gripped the railing to prevent himself from collapsing.

The assistant noticed Charles’s pale face and was frightened, "Mr. Mcintosh, let help you inside to rest for a while. You don’t look well, it’s too cold outside. Your hands are all freezing, I’ll pour you a cup of hot tea."

"Don’t bother about . I’m going to search myself." Charles stumbled as he prepared to grab a life jacket.

He had known Sylvan since childhood; their friendship had long surpassed the so-called hierarchical relationship, becoming more like brothers.

Sylvan never treated him poorly and trusted him completely, even sharing the code to his safe and offshore accounts.

This was a kind of trust born from years of living and working closely together.

But now, he watched helplessly as Sylvan was swept away by the river.

"Mr. Mcintosh, please don’t go. We’ve already sent a lot of people down. If he can be found, he’ll be found. If he can’t be found... Going there won’t do much good, it’ll only bring harm to you." The assistant tried to stop Charles.

The river’s current was like a ferocious beast, unpredictable.

"If you don’t let go, how can I be at ease?"

The assistant hesitated for a mont and didn’t dare persuade him further.

Charles put on a life jacket and with a splash, dove into the water.

The assistant watched the spray of water, shaking his head heavily.

Unable to stop Charles, he could only head into the cabin.

The dical staff had already set up a separate room for Jasmine Yale’s surgery.

A few nurses were busy and quickly brought out the wet clothes of Jasmine Yale.

The white sweater had long been stained red.

The young nurse marveled and shook her head, "So much blood, how did she hold on for so long? It’s incredible—raining, shot, truly a miracle."

The assistant strode over and asked, "How is Miss Yale?"

"Doctor Lorenzo is removing the bullet, mainly due to excessive blood loss, but otherwise okay."

"Are there enough blood bags?"

"Yes, they were expedited from various hospitals. Miss Yale’s blood type is quite unique, so it took so ti to gather them."

"Is there any infection in the wound?"

"Luckily, no. Once the bullet is removed and the blood transfusion is done, it’ll be fine. But the wound needs delicate care, can’t break open or get infected."

The assistant breathed a sigh of relief; fortunately, everything was alright.

They had been rushing all the way, from arranging doctors and nurses to deploying bodyguards, then heading into the heart of the river, moving at extraordinary speed.

Yet, it seed they were still a step too late.

Mr. Cheney was gone.

The cabin and the outside were two completely different worlds.

Outside was harsh wind and cold rain, while inside the cabin was warm as spring.

The heating was on, thick carpet covered the floor, the lighting was warm, and the walls decorated with fresh paintings.

In the cabin, you couldn’t hear any commotion or noise from outside.
