“Were they in Spencer Childe’s hands all this ti?”
“Yes.”
“Mr. Owen…” Jasmine Yale hesitated, moving her lips but ultimately refrained from asking.
She wanted to ask if there was any news about Sylvan Cheney.
But she felt it unnecessary to ask.
“Miss Yale, Mr. Mcintosh has been quite concerned about you; you must take good care of yourself,” Frederick Owen said.
“I know, I understand very well, I fear I can’t repay Mr. Mcintosh for his kindness.”
“Miss Yale, don’t say things like that. Mr. Mcintosh’s deep brotherly affection for Mr. Cheney is sothing even I, as an outsider, find touching. These days, Mr. Mcintosh has lost his appetite and is smoking more than he used to.”

A simple “thank you” isn’t enough to repay Charles Mcintosh’s kindness.
