Capítulo 2001: Chapter 2001: What Kind of Gift Do You Want?
“Mr. President.” She called out to him, her voice tender.
“Hmm?”
“That night… the night of my birthday, were you at Season waiting for the whole ti?” Jasmine Yale asked cautiously.
Sylvan Cheney’s expression darkened slightly, his tone carrying a hint of displeasure: “Who was waiting for you? Whether you’re there or not doesn’t really matter.”
“Oh, but when you blocked downstairs, you said you’d waited all night for .”
“I had too much to drink.”
“So, were there a lot of colleagues there?” Jasmine Yale asked seriously, “Did the colleagues in charge of the amusent park project all go? Was it lively?”
“Hmm, they all went, and the atmosphere was good, so I drank a lot,” Sylvan Cheney’s expression remained unchanged.
“Pfft,” Jasmine Yale couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing.
Sylvan Cheney gave her a disdainful glance, his face indifferent: “Ridiculous.”
“Mr. President… in the afternoon, Elder Axel told you waited for all night alone at Season and even bought a cake for . Also, Suite 1988 is a two-person suite.”
“Jasmine Yale, you’re too much!”
“You can’t lie in front of the kids, you know,” Jasmine Yale patted her stomach. “We need to set a good example.”
It was rare for her to manage to rile him up like this; this man’s ability to lie with a straight face was profound, showing no cracks.
“Elder Axel, huh? He’s the one who told you? Fine, he doesn’t need to co to work tomorrow.”
“Hey, let’s not drag an innocent person into matters between us; otherwise, it won’t be good.”
Sylvan Cheney was quite angry.
Jasmine Yale didn’t know why he was angry; he’d just waited all night, after all, it wasn’t sothing to be ashad of.
Was waiting for her embarrassing?
Those years, she’d waited for him countless tis.
“Elder Axel said you threw the cake away.” Jasmine Yale expressed regret, “It must have been delicious; it’s such a pity to have thrown it away.”
“Elder Axel talks too much; sumr cakes shouldn’t be left overnight.”
“So, did you throw away my birthday present too?” Jasmine Yale looked at him.
“Gift? What gift are you talking about? There wasn’t any.”
“Oh, maybe Elder Axel was seeing things; he said he saw you preparing a gift, and I thought it was my birthday present.”
“Talks too much,” Sylvan Cheney’s face was cold.
Jasmine Yale laughed the whole way: “I like lots of things—eating, playing, beautiful, cute things—I pretty much like them all.”
“What you like has nothing to do with .”
“No relation, no relation, I was just saying it casually, haha.” Jasmine Yale laughed.
Sylvan Cheney continued driving, not saying a word.
Yet, when she laughed, the atmosphere around them beca much more relaxed.
The scenery by the roadside was nothing special, just tall trees and the dark night sky.
Jasmine Yale propped her head up, looking out the window.
When they weren’t chatting, the car would fall into silence, but this silence didn’t feel awkward; instead, it was sowhat peaceful and cozy.
Jasmine Yale seed to be in a particularly good mood, propping up her head and softly humming a song.
In an instant, her singing filled the narrow car interior.
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it was enough for Sylvan Cheney to hear.
He didn’t understand why; Jasmine Yale had just graduated from college, with little professional experience. Logically, she should feel a bit timid and constrained around her boss, especially soone at the top of the group, but she didn’t distance herself from him.
