Only Sylvan Cheney knew about her being asked to leave; no one in the company had any inkling.
However, when Jasmine Yale got on the elevator, a few colleagues from the PR departnt were gossiping.
"Have you heard? Little Waverly didn’t get promoted to Deputy Manager. Soone from the Marketing Departnt was transferred to that position."
"I knew she wouldn’t get it. With that arrogant deanor and just having graduated, how could she rise to Deputy Manager so quickly?"
"It’s hard to say. I’ve heard that so people like to play those inside gas, but our company has always been fair and square. No matter how much you try, it won’t work!"
"Isn’t it like losing both the lady and the soldiers then?"
"You need to see it; recently Little Waverly has been getting really close to that pot-bellied manager in the PR departnt. It’s quite disgusting to watch."
"That’s why you should just focus on your work and stop relying on connections to get ahead. UT doesn’t buy that."
"Exactly."
Jasmine Yale stood amongst them, quietly listening.
So not even Sylvan Cheney could help his favorite get the Deputy Manager position? Too powerless.
Jasmine gave a wry smile.
The elevator stopped, and she headed over to the Secretary Departnt.
...
Since that day, Jasmine Yale had been too busy to deal with Sylvan Cheney.
Since they’d broken up, it seed unnecessary for her to care for him.
Friday evening, after work, she passed by Yukon Carbon’s bakery and bought so strawberry jam and polo tea from Aunt Camden.
Sweet Kitty was playing under the tree in the yard, having a great ti with a ball of yarn.
Jasmine picked up Sweet Kitty, lovingly rubbing its little head.
With Yukon Carbon not ho, she chatted with Aunt Camden or helped her mind the store.
"Jasmine, Yukon’s recently gone to Bancouver on a business trip and won’t be back for a while. I really miss him."
"He’ll co back after the trip, and then you’ll see him."
"When he returns, I’ll go to Old York to see him. It’s been so long since I saw his dad; his dad’s busy too. Jasmine, would you like to co to Old York with then?"
"Aunt Camden, I can’t make it. I’ve been feeling a bit lazy lately and don’t want to travel far."
"That’s understandable; being pregnant is like that. Sotis, you just feel lethargic for several days," Aunt Camden sighed. "Are you managing alright living by yourself? Have you prepared everything you need? Let know if you’re missing anything."
"It’s all good. My housekeeper is kind to ; everything’s ready, just waiting for the little one to arrive."
"Actually..." Aunt Camden hesitated, pausing for a long mont, "Honestly... I can tell that Yukon really likes you, but I also see that you only regard him as a friend. Truth be told, I’m kind of reluctant to see you go and hope you could be with Yukon. Having a man to take care of things would be much better. However, I understand your perspective, I’m just... a bit regretful."
Jasmine Yale understood what Aunt Camden was implying.
She smiled, "Aunt Camden, Yukon and I will truly be good friends."
"Have you never thought about getting married?" Aunt Camden asked.
"I..." Jasmine fell silent.
Getting married? To whom...
"I’ve made you so polo jam. I cooked it myself, it’s different from the ones sold outside, completely natural," Aunt Camden didn’t press the issue, smoothly changing the topic to spare Jasmine any discomfort, "You can directly brew it when you get ho. It’s delicious. When you’ve finished, co get more anyti, I can make it as needed."
"Thank you, Aunt Camden," Jasmine Yale replied, taking it.
