Three days later.
Jasmine Yale unexpectedly received a call from Yukon Carbon.
She was taking a walk in the park, and when she got the call, it felt like ages had passed; she was dazed for a mont.
Yukon Carbon hadn’t contacted her in a long ti.
"Jasmine."
"I’m here," Jasmine Yale responded.
The voice on the other end sounded a bit weary and tired, and Jasmine felt a pang in her heart.
"It’s been a long ti since I called you. My phone... was taken away by the attending doctor, saying that it affects my rest," Yukon Carbon chuckled softly, "I secretly took it today to make a call."
"Listen to the doctor well, do whatever they say, get plenty of rest, don’t overwork," Jasmine quickly said.
"I know, I know, it’s just that I haven’t contacted you in a while, and I was afraid you’d worry."
"I’m sorry, Yukon, I..."
"Shh," Yukon Carbon said softly, "Don’t ntion that, it’ll upset ."
Jasmine’s eyes moistened, and suddenly she didn’t know what to say. Her heart surged with waves of emotion.
The wind blew on her face, and she quietly looked at the yellow earth beneath her feet.
"I’m much better now, already able to get out of bed and move around. Don’t worry, and don’t bla yourself. Co to Old York when you have ti, I’d love to see you."
"Okay."
"Yeah, he ca to the hospital a couple of days ago to apologize, the first ti he ca, I was asleep, heard he waited outside for two hours. But I was asleep from the dication, didn’t know. He ca again the next day, and we t."
Jasmine was surprised, utterly taken aback.
She recognized who the "he" Yukon Carbon ntioned was.
But Sylvan Cheney hadn’t ntioned it to her.
"You guys..."
"Didn’t have an argunt," Yukon Carbon said quietly, "His attitude was okay, didn’t say much, but was sincere. I did hit him once, so we’re even. But... when he was leaving, he ran into my mom, she doesn’t like him, said a few words to him, but I didn’t hear what."
"He didn’t argue with Aunt Camden, did he?"
"I didn’t ask, but it didn’t seem like it."
"Did you... forgive him? I don’t think you need to forgive him."
"If I don’t forgive him, how can I trust him with you? He told he’d treat you well, and if he can’t, I can keep hitting him."
"You can’t beat him; he’s a scoundrel."
Another soft laugh ca from the other end: "I’ve never heard soone talk about their boyfriend that way."
"He’s not my boyfriend, I don’t admit it. I don’t have a petty boyfriend like that."
"Besides being petty, he doesn’t have major flaws, and he’s adaptable, willing to co to apologize to on his own."
"Yukon, don’t speak for him. You’ve had surgery, been hospitalized; if anything happened to you, I couldn’t forgive him. Liking soone isn’t about possession, it’s about fulfillnt, and he’s too domineering."
"He’s not like , I guess I can vaguely understand why you like him so much."
"I..." Jasmine blushed a bit, "What do you an, he has character issues."
"The issue is whether you’re willing to help him change. When he first ca to apologize, I didn’t respond to him, even got angry, but he was sincere, kept apologizing."
"What’s the use of apologizing? Can an apology heal your injuries?"
"No," Yukon Carbon said, his voice gentle, "That’s why I should rember this grudge, rember it well."
