Jasmine Yale glanced at the screen and whispered, “It’s Zaiden Santos.”
Ann Nolan sighed, plugged in her headphones, and answered, “Hello.”
“Where are you.”
“On the way.”
“Where did you go.”
“Professor Mackenzie’s house.”
“I’ve just returned from a business trip, and I brought you a gift.”
Ann was sowhat surprised, as this was the first ti Zaiden Santos had brought her a gift.
He often went on business trips, but he never brought her any gifts, not during festivals, nor on her birthdays.
This ti, she was truly taken aback.
“What gift?” she asked faintly.
“You’ll know when you get back,” Zaiden’s voice carried a hint of weary exhaustion.
“Oh,” Ann responded.
“Ann, we’re almost at my neighborhood at the next intersection. You can drop off at the roadside, and I’ll walk in myself,” Jasmine Yale said.
“I’ll walk you in,” Ann ended the call.
It was still raining. She wouldn’t let Jasmine walk back alone.
She drove all the way into Jasmine Yale’s neighborhood.
Watching Jasmine Yale holding an umbrella as she safely walked to the building entrance, she left feeling relieved.
The rain draped low, and the night deepened.

As soon as Ann ca back, she saw Zaiden Santos sitting on the couch, his eyes closed, leaning back and sleeping.
Dressed in a suit, his tie still done up, he looked exhausted.
Ann walked across the soft carpet without making a sound.
She took off her trench coat and quietly handed her bag to the maid.
She glanced at Zaiden Santos.
The man, while sleeping, appeared completely unguarded, quiet and still as a resting lion.
His facial features were sharp and deep, the hollows of his eyes pronounced, and a bluish stubble had sprouted on his chin as if it hadn’t been tended to for days. His usually neat short hair was sowhat disheveled.
There were several cigarette butts in the ashtray and a half-drunk cup of green tea on the coffee table.
Next to Zaiden was a pink gift box, elegantly wrapped.
Seeing him deeply asleep, Ann didn’t disturb him and silently covered him with a blanket.
Unexpectedly, her movent, though gentle, still woke the sleeping man.
He opened his eyes tiredly, his deep and profound gaze fixed on Ann.
“Back already?” he asked softly.
“Yes,” Ann’s expression remained neutral.
She could sll the smoke on him; it seed he had smoked quite a bit.
Securing a project on Financial Street is not sothing anyone could achieve, and although Zaiden Santos was a finance high achiever, he lacked practical experience. Setbacks were inevitable.
But that was the Santos family’s business, Zaiden’s business. It had nothing to do with her.
“Have you had dinner?” Ann asked casually.
“Not yet. I don’t want to eat,” Zaiden was sowhat childishly reluctant.
“Oh,” Ann didn’t care whether he wanted to eat or not. He wasn’t a child anymore, “Then ask the kitchen to make sothing. I still have so things to finish. I’ll go to the study first.”
Ann dropped the blanket and was about to leave when—
Zaiden suddenly pulled her into his arms with force.
Ann didn’t stabilize herself and staggered.
Zaiden smoothly brought her into his embrace.
Her body carried a faint scent of fruitwood, subtle and almost undetectable unless close.
“Why don’t you ever ask about my business trip or inquire if the project was going well these past few days?” Zaiden expressed his dissatisfaction.
“Not interested.”
Ann struggled.
But despite her efforts, a woman’s strength was no match for a man’s, and she was firmly restrained by Zaiden Santos.
