Being the weekend, the bar was even buzzer than usual. As soon as they stepped in, the blaring music and noise hit them.
The lighting was dim, with red and green lights weaving together.
Jasmine found them a spot and sat down, quietly humming along to the songs being played in the bar.
Ann took off her coat, ordering so fruit and wine.
“Ann, it’s been so long since I’ve been to a bar. Have a few extra drinks with tonight, just don’t drive,” Jasmine cautioned.
“I want to drink, too. Co on, let’s drink.”
Ann poured Jasmine a glass of red wine and filled one for herself as well.
The rich red liquid flowed down the clear glass walls, glistening like ruby under the lights, striking to the eye.
The scent of wine filled the air!
The light shone on Jasmine’s pretty oval face, adding a hint of allure to her usually pure features.
She propped her head on her hands, squinting at the young man singing.
“Ann, which of these two young guys is more handso?” she asked with a smile.
One was playing the guitar while the other was on the drums, both with appealing voices.
“Hmm…” Ann scrutinized before answering, “The left one! The guitarist!”
“That’s what I thought, too. He looks so young, maybe in his early twenties?”
“About that.”
Jasmine took a sip of red wine, finding it quite pleasant.
She wasn’t great at holding her liquor but was sowhat enchanted by the taste of alcohol.
“I like young guys,” said Jasmine, gazing dreamily and resting her chin on her hands.
Ann laughed and tapped her head lightly, “Are you thinking of dating soone?”
“Not at all…” Jasmine shook her head, “But Ann, I’d like to find a boyfriend who can play the guitar, dance, play basketball, and if he could play video gas, that would be even better. Then we could play together every day.”
Listeing to her slightly tipsy words, Ann laughed, “Then who would earn a living to support the family?”
“We work together when it’s ti to work, and play together when we’re off. What do you think?”
Ann nodded vaguely, a misty haze in her eyes, “Good…”
To work together and to be together even when not working, that truly sounded blissful.
Though it was an ordinary way of life, it seed out of reach for them.
Jasmine tipped her head back and took another gulp of wine.
Her tolerance was naturally low, and before she finished the glass, her head started to feel dizzy.
Her eyes shimred with moisture, and her long lashes were veiled with a thin mist.
The taste of wine was too enticing, and she lifted her hand, downing the rest of the red wine in her glass.
“Take it easy. Are you drinking red wine like it’s water?” Ann held her hand, “Jasmine, can you dance? If you can, let’s go to the dance floor.”
Jasmine shook her head, looking bewildered, “No, I can’t.”
As a child, she was always more interested in playing than in learning; she never took to piano, guitar, calligraphy… basically, she wasn’t into anything.
She just loved playing in the mud with other kids, climbing trees, and at most, doing howork together.
As a result, she grew up without any skills to show off, not even knowing how to swim.
It wasn’t that Sylvan Cheney hadn’t tried to get her lessons; it was just that she would give up after a few days, complaining non-stop, unwilling to continue.
And when she complained, she had only one trick up her sleeve: crying.
At first, Sylvan would toughen up and insist on sending her to the teacher, but later on, he was utterly defeated.
Whenever she cried her heart out, his brain seed to stop being his own, totally led by her.
