Jian Yufei nodded, lifting the box in her hand: “I made so pastries as a present for Grandpa. Can you go in and let him know for ?”
Butler Hardy smiled: “No need to announce, Miss can go straight in.”
He opened the door, gesturing for her to enter.
“Thank you.” Jian Yufei walked in, and Butler Hardy closed the door behind her.
Nangong Wenxiang was working on the computer; seeing her co in, he set aside his work, leaned back in the leather swivel chair, and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“What is it you’re here for?” he asked indifferently, his voice tinged with fatigue.
Jian Yufei suddenly felt a pang of pity for him.
At his age, he was still working tirelessly every day, with no one to share his burdens.
If his son hadn’t died, he’d probably be enjoying his twilight years by now.
Jian Yufei stepped forward, placing a box on the desk: “I made so pastries and brought them for you.”
“I don’t eat these things,” Nangong Wenxiang declined flatly.
Jian Yufei was speechless, “You won’t even eat what I personally made?”
Nangong Wenxiang looked up, surprise in his eyes.
Jian Yufei said awkwardly: “I made so for everyone, whether you eat them or not, I’ll leave your share here.”
Nangong Wenxiang smiled: “I never eat things made by others.”
Jian Yufei paused, only then understanding what he ant.
“You’re afraid I’ve poisoned them? Thanks for the reminder, I’ll keep that in mind for next ti.” This old man’s paranoia is really too much.
Such a waste of her kindness…
“Eating cautiously has beco a habit of mine. Now tell , what is it that you want?” Nangong Wenxiang’s gaze was sharp, seeing right through her intentions.
Jian Yufei didn’t beat around the bush: “Last night, I overheard Nangong Xu and one of his subordinates talking by the pond. His subordinate gave him a U disk, and I suspect the contents are not simple.”
Nangong Wenxiang raised an eyebrow, asking nonchalantly: “So what?”
“If we get the U disk, we can uncover so of his secrets!”
“Mhm, you’re right. So how do we get our hands on it?” Nangong Wenxiang asked back.
Jian Yufei had already thought of a plan: “I’ll go to my mother and have her steal the U disk.”
“Not a bad idea.”
“Do you have a better one?” Jian Yufei asked him.
Nangong Wenxiang shook his head: “No, let’s do as you said.”
Jian Yufei looked at him puzzledly, feeling that his reaction was too nonchalant for such a big secret she had shared.
“Aren’t you curious about what’s on the U disk?”
“Very curious,” the old man said in his ever even tone.
Jian Yufei was at a loss for words, “It doesn’t seem like you’re curious at all; you’re too calm. Or could it be, you already know what’s on the U disk?”
Nangong Wenxiang said lightly: “I don’t know its contents. Yufei, I am old now; I’m not sure how much longer I can live. I’ll leave the rest for you to deal with.”
“What do you an?” Jian Yufei was taken aback, “You’re giving up on us?”
“The road ahead is difficult, and I only hope you can walk it on your own because I won’t be able to protect you much longer.”
Why did the conversation turn so lancholic…
Jian Yufei held back an uncomfortable feeling: “You look well, living another twenty years shouldn’t be a problem.”
