Chapter 1017: 1016 find you a sister-in-law
Gu Yan squinted his eyes, his gaze investigative as he stared at Gu Kai.
His brows were sculpted, his deanor indifferent, showing no sign of anything amiss, yet, he still frowned, “Ah Kai, how did you suddenly see the light?”
Gu Kai snorted with laughter, arching his perfect brows, “Dad, when I scared off a blind date before, you scolded . Now that I’ve co to my senses, why do you look like I’m sick?”
“You don’t have a fever, do you?”
Gu Yan reached out his hand, but Gu Kai dodged, saying seriously, “Don’t worry, I’m very clear-headed.”
“You said it yourself, I’m friends with Professor Fang, and you’ve t Fang Zhiwei. Ah Kai, if you’re really willing to try, then be serious about it and don’t treat her like the previous girls.”
Seeing that Gu Kai didn’t seem to be faking, Gu Yan straightened up too, his tone gentle yet exuding authority from his very bones.
“Dad, I understand,” Gu Kai nodded.
If he truly had to marry soone, as long as the person had good character and treated his family well, he could accept it.
After Gu Yan left, Gu Kai dialed Wen Ran’s number.
At the sa ti, Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen had already gone to bed, both leaning against the headboard as Mo Xiuchen held a Prenatal Education Book, telling stories to his two little treasures.
The last check-up revealed they were having twins.
In about ten days or so, when Ranran went for her prenatal check-up, they’d be able to find out whether they were boys or girls. Mo Xiuchen was very much looking forward to that day.
Wen Ran’s phone rang, and Mo Xiuchen set down the storybook, leaned over, and picked up the phone, “Ranran, it’s Ah Kai calling.”
“My brother? You take it.”
Wen Ran reached for the storybook lying on his knees. Perhaps because she was carrying twins, her belly had slightly bulged, even though she was just shy of three months along.
Due to her recent morning sickness and inability to eat properly, she hadn’t gained any weight. Only in the past few days had she started to feel a bit better, and Mo Xiuchen had taken to finding creative ways to nourish her.
When Mo Xiuchen pressed the answer button, he switched to speakerphone and casually uttered a “Hello”.
“Mo Xiuchen, is Ranran there?”
Gu Kai’s voice ca through, specifically asking for Wen Ran.
Mo Xiuchen frowned, “Ranran is about to go to sleep, what’s the matter so late?”
“If Ranran hasn’t slept yet, let her take the call.”
“Ranran is right here beside , I’ve got the phone on speaker; just speak, she can hear you.” Mo Xiuchen’s voice carried a hint of displeasure. He had always been one to prioritize love and friendship, and now that Ranran was carrying his children, and even experiencing the difficulties of a twin pregnancy, he was even less tolerant of anyone disturbing her.
“Brother, what’s up?”
Beside him, Wen Ran glanced at Mo Xiuchen and softly spoke up.
Mo Xiuchen flashed her a faint smile, the heaviness in his brows instantly dissipating, replaced by gentle warmth.
Hearing Wen Ran’s voice, Gu Kai revealed the purpose of his call, “Ranran, accompany to et soone tomorrow.”
“et soone? Who?” Wen Ran asked, puzzled.
Gu Kai cleared his throat on the other end of the line, sounding a bit uneasy, “It’s a blind date. I’ve chosen soone myself. Tomorrow, will you co with , please?”
Wen Ran’s eyes widened with surprise; she couldn’t believe her brother was willing to go on a blind date.
“Brother, are you serious? Tomorrow isn’t April Fool’s Day.”
“Of course, I’m serious. When have I ever lied to you? You’ve always wanted a sister-in-law, haven’t you? I’ve decided to find you one as soon as possible.” Gu Kai’s awkwardness was but a montary thing; he quickly returned to his normal self.
“Okay, I’ll accompany you tomorrow.”
Wen Ran smiled lightly and readily agreed.
“Mm, go to sleep early, goodnight.” Gu Kai said and then hung up.
Wen Ran looked up to see Mo Xiuchen deep in thought; she asked softly, “Mo Xiuchen, do you think there’s sothing off about my brother?”
“Ranran, you think so too?”
Wen Ran frowned in contemplation, “Yes, my brother has always been against blind dates. And those previous blind date candidates weren’t to his liking at all. Now, he’s asking to accompany him on a blind date; could it be that the girl is soone he likes.”
“As far as I know, Gu Kai doesn’t have soone he likes,” Mo Xiuchen said with a smile.
“Then why?”
Wen Ran looked at Mo Xiuchen, puzzled; Gu Kai had never asked her to accompany him on a blind date before.
Mo Xiuchen wrapped his hand a bit tighter around hers and, with a kiss on her forehead, said, “Ranran, don’t think about it now. Just go to sleep, and you’ll find out tomorrow.”
Wen Ran gave him a playful scolding glance, “Alright, I’ll go to sleep.”
Seeing her compliance, Mo Xiuchen’s smile widened, letting her lie down and tucking her in, “You don’t have to keep sleeping on your left side now. Just sleep however you’re comfortable. I’ll tell the babies a story.”
“You should sleep too, no stories tonight.”
Wen Ran grabbed the storybook.
Mo Xiuchen’s gaze flickered, shifting away from her face.
“Ranran, I’m going to the study to take care of so things.”
His voice was inexplicably hoarse as he flipped off the blanket, got out of bed, and quickly walked to the study.
Wen Ran watched as the study door closed; she furrowed her brow in confusion.
And thinking of Mo Xiuchen’s hurried departure, she couldn’t help but laugh again.
